I don't really know how this works but the music that I used and balanced on my computer sounds louder here, so you can let me know what you think about the audio mix. It was supposed to be a little quieter. Not sure if it had something to do with KZbin compression. Sometimes it's way too quiet in videos when I upload another times it's louder and the audio never sounds exactly how it sounds on my computer... Because reasons?

Honestly it's so bad, I think Fanfiction and Fan comics would be a better alternative- I'm even considering making my own Spider-Man content and stories- Hell, you could even make a few different versions, throw in variety, have multiple different stories have him with MJ, Gwen, or even Black Cat, or even happily single- Just something that has more emotional impact than Squidward's part of a modern Spongebob episode- Something that isn't just a miserable character assassination compilation-

@@-Teague- I might, I've always been really hesitant to make anything on my own, but it really shouldn't be too hard to write a good Spider-Man, since a lot of his stories are about responsibility- Although for some reason, some Marvel writers decide that responsibility means "unending suffering in a callous and cruel world, where you get beaten down until you have nothing left and become jaded", which is absolutely not what it means, and especially not for Spider-Man, yes he struggles to keep up with his responsibilities, but the "moral" was never meant to be that his responsibility was a character flaw- He already faced enough trauma due to his own irresponsibility, that's why he does what he does in the first place- But I'm gonna stop before I go off on another rant. My point being, it should be more than possible for fans with the needed skills to come together and make what we've all been missing over the years-

After Secret Wars, they had the perfect opportunity to redefine the Spider Man franchise for the better: *Peter* - The aging, experienced, wisened Spider teacher *Miles* - The growing, out of place, struggling Spider trainee *Mayday* - The young, optimistic and naive Spider enthusiast An aging Peter shouldve put all his efforts in to training up Miles Morales as Miles struggles to find his way in the new 616 in which he has no experience - have Miles be the young, struggling Spider while Peter finally finds his footing in a career as some sort of Investigator/Investigative Journalist, marries MJ, and has a child, i.e. May Parker, ala Defalcos run (who was "killed" in Secret Wars). Over the years as Peter ages out of Spider Man, have Miles age into becoming the main Spider Man. Then continue the process w a child Mayday Parker being next in line to take the mantle from Miles, as she ages into an optimistic, overly excited Spider Girl who has yet to learn the value of responsibility, only appreciating her Father and her Uncle Miles for their "cool factor" if you will. This was such a clear direction to take the Spider family in, but Marvel editorial hates Spider Man.

The problem is that Marvel editorial took the wrong lessons from Superior's slow rise to popularity among fans. I, along with many others, initially _hated_ Superior during those first few issues for a variety of reasons, but as the months went on, I couldn't ignore the great writing, suspense, and character moments. It wasn't perfect, but it felt fresh and exciting, and seeing a villain as old-school Silver-Age-esque evil as Otto go through the humble nuance of a full-blown redemption arc was kind of insane. Marvel Editorial is so averse to good writing that they saw the success of the book and just went "Oh, this must mean that people love Doc Ock! So we should really bring him back and double down on how villainous he can be! Fans will love it!" Same with Spider-Gwen and their bizarre obsession with giving all of their characters a Gwen variant. I have read Spider-Man since 1979, and I can tell you, at least in my time, the One More Day story , its effects on Peter & MJ, and really Joe Quesada himself were all the WORST THINGS ever to happen to these comics. It came from Quesada's CONCEIT that he was not an editor or steward of these characters but that they were his own personal toys to do what he alone wanted and basically screw the rest of us and the fans. (it's magic, we don't have to explain it) His over reach even drove JMS away from the books and he didn't want his name on the OMD story just because he thought it was done so bad and the selfishness of Quesada. He has set the character back so far and set him on a downward spiral that they still have not pulled out of and they have not told ONE STORY (which was his stated reason) that they could not tell with a married Peter. IT was utter BS and falsehoods to justify taking away 30 years of character development to make him 70's Peter Parker forever.

The Clone Saga did not write Peter in character. Just because there's things to defend in that era, it doesn't mean his characterization is one of them. They had him hit Mary Jane, briefly become a villain, and just act unapologetically selfish on a regular basis. The Post-Clone Saga era while generally pretty sucky, did start to move him back in the direction of his natural character, but he didn't fully recover as a character until Paul Jenson and JMS (and even that didn't last too long). The last writer to give us a full ASM run with Peter consistently in character over the entire span was Micheline.

My big problem is that, ever since Brand New Day, that is Peter's base status quo. They return him to it, or something very close to it, when a run or arc wraps. While I really hated (and still hate ngl) OMD, and acknowledge that the BND era and everything that follows has had some highlights, it's been about 15 or 16 years of the reversion to screw-up, unlucky, man-child Peter. I think it's time they take him somewhere growth oriented in the long term again. I'm complicit in this myself, but IDT Marvel will learn their lesson unless people stop buying ASM; in March ICv2 reported ASM #21 as the top book in terms of units moved. I have a mail sub through Midtown Comics and have turned off my renewal. Once these last few issues wrap, that's that for me until something changes. You must have a mastered viewpoint on the plot and think outside the box. Like you said, the fight scene between captain America and Spider-Man had significant meaning. There were so many themes behind their battle. Which is why it worked.

I've always had issue with Spiderman but I think a lot of those issues I have with the character stem mostly from how he is constantly written OVERALL. More so then most marvel characters they keep trying to REVERT him back to what he's always been. I mean yeah, sometimes I don't agree with certain character changes (wasn't big on his marriage to MJ, but I can see why One More Day caused issues for fans) BUT often times it seems these backpedals don't help his character a lot. It's kind of like Iron man in the MCU, they kept on having to like retcon any character development he has for the next movie and it just doesn't make his character look great when you examine it as aw hole.

The truth is that the writers are afraid that if Peter's story comes to a resolution, the money flow stops. They're afraid of changing Spider-Man from Peter to someone else. Maybe because the clone saga was such a shipwreck. Miles Morales has recently changed things up though. People are more accepting that Peter is not the essential Spider-Man anymore.

Now what they could do... Have peter end up with MJ, but after some incident like a villain attacks her or something.. Resulting in her being severely injured and in a coma. Maybe even having moments where Peter has a mental breakdown similar to when he lost gwen. After she awakes weeks or months later she seems different, they argue, lots of yelling, etc, so much so they break up. Around the same time a mysterious female vigilante appears in the city fighting crime, while Peter is busy dealing with the break up. Then after some massive city wide conspiracy or destruction, peter would go back to fighting crime. Spiderman ends up being saved by this new mystery hero, who he doesn't even know their name. This happens quite a few times, so much so peter starts to fall for her which comes to a head when he outright admits his feelings to her after they became allies. Now one of the big shocks could be.... This vigilante outright says his secret identity, like "Thank you peter" or something. Of course this would shock him so much that he would ask who she is, which would cause her to actually surprise him by saying "I don't actually know, I just woke up one day with the desire to help people. Can't remember anything before that" Then after sometime she would actually take off her mask to see if he can help her find out who she is. For some reason Peter would feel a sense of familiarity with her, but can put his finger on it. Then start a long arc where Peter would try to help her figure out her past, things come to a head when they end up helping Dr. Strange deal with some conflict. Where Strange gives a shocking revelation. "She seems similar to someone you knew very well" He'd try a spell, fully revealling the secret.. She actually is mary jane, or should I say a PART of her. Not MJ but also MJ. Loophole ftw.

I've been at it for roughly 3 years, and my graphic novel collection has grown immensely. I have tried so hard to find good Spider-Man comics, and out of maybe 19ish of them, I only like about 4, most of which aren't even in main continuity. I've now resorted to avoiding Spider-Man comics altogether. Thanks, D-Jay. I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who feels this way.

Yea the problem with Spider-Man nowadays is that it doesn’t matter who’s writing Spider-Man, editorial will be the one who dictates where he goes. A lot of people were upset Zeb Wells was announced to be part of the Deadpool 3 movie script and I’m like “guys, his Spider-Man being mediocre is not entirely his fault”. He’s a good writer: Carnage USA was good, i really enjoyed his Ant-man miniseries, and I’m about to read his acclaimed Hellions. Seems like the best comics that are coming out at Marvel are X-men, Thor and Fantastic four. People have enjoyed those the most and I’m getting more into DC.

So I'm gonna say a few things here, and People aren't going to like them, but most the problems you point out with modern Spider-Man a lot of other marvel and DC comics also have, and the main reason for this is because the people working on these major comics hate there audience, and no, I'm not joking when I say that the people working at marvel comics, I'm talking writers, artist, colourers, editorial, a lot of them really do hate the comic book audience, and this leads into another problem with modern marvel and that is that the "writers" making these stories don't see these characters as characters, they don't think of these characters as people, they think of them as tools to spell a narrative. To steal from xenoblade chronicles 3, they want marvel comics to be in a "endless now," where nothing changes and the world never grows. I don't really want to go any further than this because I've basically lost all interest in American comics at this point, But I do wanna respond to your comment of "these people are making bank off of mediocre stories." - They're really not making bank, Like Disney and Sony are making bank off of things like the movies, videogames and merchandise of Spider-Man, but as for the people working on the main series comics, they get jack shit, even the Spider-Man comics aren't really selling anymore. There's more interest around renew your vows, back issues, and the videogames than there is about the mainline comics. Anyway that all I got to say. I hope you have a good day.

Stupid as the concept is, I don’t think they ever even delivered on that promise either. What meaningful relationship of Peter’s has been explored at all in the last 10-15 years that isn’t just rehashing old characters from before the big reset?

Sorry 616/main earth Peter, but you're just no longer making sense or feeling like Spider-Man. I'll stick with dad 982 Peter, he was actually allowed to GROW UP and become a dad. Mayday is my favorite of the Spider people, and I love just how good of a dad 982 Pete is. So I'm largely gonna stick with that universe along with Renew your Vows because they let Peter grow up past the status quo of being the most miserable person alive. And this is coming from someone that has always loved Spider-Man ever since I heard of him and saw the first Raimi movie, so I don't want to give up on any version of Spidey. But I can't help but feel as though 616 Peter forgot what it means to be Spider-Man, especially with OMD. The Peter I grew up with would have honestly let Aunt May go even if it hurts because it's not worth sacrificing every good thing he did. So, sorry 616 Pete. I'm gonna have to let you go, even if you eventually get a chance to grow up and go back to being the Spider-Man i knew.

I don't disagree that good things came out of the clone saga, and the hook of drawing from a story in 1975 to tell us that the last 20 years were a lie was incredibly attention grabbing... in a time when we weren't bombarded with those kinds of major temporary shakeups. However, even if it's good, that doesn't make it not the event that established the pattern of constant "We're changing everything in a shocking way-just kidding!" Maximum Clonage walked so One More Day could run.

The only good Spider-Man comic I remembered reading are Spider-Man:Renew Your Vows and Spider-Man:Life Story. They did an awesome job showing that Peter can be both a hero and a family man at the same time. While Life Story really shown how Peter has grown over the years as timid teenager to becoming wise just like his uncle, and those were spin-off titles. Unlike the current comic verse they just do t give a damn about developing Peter Parker’s character.

Every comic he hooks up with a new possible.romance and after each run he gets slapped back to his initial starting point with his old flame dumping him or something stupid. Renew your vow sold more than the main line comics so they canceled it to pair him up with MJ just to break it up again like they always do. Lets face it. I can't believe it's gotten to a point where the main continuity Spider-Man issues have become just as bad as say the Rosario + Vampire anime adaptation. Anyone who has read the manga and seen the anime will back me up on this. It's fucked up to think Spider-Man can only seem to be done right in Elseworld stories where anything can happen because it's a what-if not bogged down by the rules of continuity. I loved the Punishing Spider and Shadow of the Spider comics. They were interesting and different, but they still managed to perfectly encapsulate who Peter Parker is as a character. He's the guy that goes the extra mile for everyone else no matter what the universe throws at him. Shadow of the Spider did this better in my opinion because The Punishing Spider was a what-if about Peter Parker being the Punisher before Frank Castle. And you know what? That Peter Parker got a happy ending. He managed to save Gwen Stacy, he married her, and he managed to successfully retire from the superhero business without getting pulled back in. Also, because he killed his rogues gallery, nobody was around to come after him for revenge. Take that however you want, but these stories prove that Peter Parker can get his shit together and be happy. Why this only has to be an Elseworld thing instead of a main continuity thing is beyond me. Watching what Marvel editorial has done to Peter Parker is like watching a good friend who I've known my whole life getting curb stomped and pissed on while I'm helpless to do anything about it.

Spider-Man is one of the three most popular superheroes of all time next to Superman and Batman. Of the three, he is my personal favorite. All have had some pretty bad runs, but picked themselves up after awhile. Until now. Batman is pretty consistent in quality, so duds can be waved aside. Superman (Clark, that is) has seen a decent resurgence post-Bendis (Jon, not so much sadly. I wanted to like that character). But Spidey? Despite JMS and Dan Slott's best efforts, the character is stuck. And not just him, but MJ, Osborn, Felicia, Venom, and so many others. Big Time and Superior aside (though there's plenty of issues with Superior in hindsight, but JMS also brought us Sins Past so no one's perfect), One More Day was 616 Spider-Man's death knell. At this point, the only solution is for Peter to revoke his deal with Mephisto and for the timeline to repair itself. Yes, that'd be a Flashpoint level event and would have serious repercussions on 616, but maybe Marvel needs that. Or maybe it'd be the New 52 all over again

And when that happens threats against then should be mostly physical or use factors completely out of their control. There’s nothing wrong with static main characters. Just develop side characters and antagonists. They’re all going to run out of development potential anyway Do not force change to an established character because you think they must be dynamic. But don’t go the other way and keep characters to a strict status quo. Both extremes ruin stories and I hate to see such potential wasted because of a cash grab
