Read Rising Stars by Straczynski when it came out because all the hype behind the guy... Yeah, nice set up but after a couple of issues it went nowhere and everyone had the same Superman powers basically. First comic as a teen I tought was crap.

Nowhere in the panel ever suggests that he was looking at his junk. His eyes is on his chest. This is full on projection and false. Spider-Man is all about being quippy, so its not out of character of him to make a joke. Keep in mind that he said in the movie "That's a nice dress. Did your husband make that for you?" If you think that's acceptable, then how come a homophobic line like that gets to stay yet joking about Thor's light is not acceptable? What I see is a double standard.

What you did was take two completely different examples and take one common thread and made a false dichotomy. Deadpool is quippy and sexually open, spiderman is a traditional American character that is actually quite sexually closed. In fact a big part of his character is that he is a traditionalist, he loves marriage, family, dating, old ways. Deadpool is too, but he's also not seeped in 60 years of experiences of being an average new York man. Spiderman is a reflection of an everyman, not a gayby or themself

@sheehase I never said that Spider-Man was sexually open. And Deadpool always makes sex jokes. That's his stchick. He always makes innuendo. Yeah, Spiderman is a traditionalist, but nothing in that panel he ever makes a sex joke. That's projection & a misdirection. It's your own dirty mind that you think Peter is making a sex joke, and you think he was looking at Thor's dick despite that's not what where his eyes were at. So that's a YOU issue.

His eyes aren’t on his chest, they do seem to be looking at his belt, but I never would have read the scene like this. I would have never thought he was making that joke, it just reads like a normal scene to me.

I might be wrong on this but I think spidey at one point made joke to red hulk about him pretending to be his abuse boyfriend(avenging spider man 2011 issue 2 pretty good comic)that was way more gay than whatever this panel is and he is Cleary looking at his chest though not his junk.

It's hard to pick out the dumbest thing about all this, it's a target-rich environment for sure, but I think the dumbest thing is that these writers think they're really doing something when they do this kind of thing. They think they're doing something stunning and brave when it's anything but. It's not stunning or shocking, it's become a massive, tiresome cliche at this point. And it's not brave because they're not going against the grain of their industry and peers. It's one of the most WITH the grain things they can do right now, and it's been that way for years at this point. It's not brave to say or do something you'll pay no price for. They KNOW they'll pay no price for it, yet they pretend it's brave anyway. They all clap and pat each other on the back. It's pathetic.
