PLOT SUMMARY
Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, young Peter Parker returns home to live with his Aunt May. Under the watchful eye of mentor Tony Stark, Parker starts to embrace his newfound identity as Spider-Man. He also tries to return to his normal daily routine -- distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just a friendly neighborhood superhero. Peter must soon put his powers to the test when the evil Vulture emerges to threaten everything that he holds dear.

I disagree about the suit. The teched out suit was perfect for this SpiderMan. It made the third act, where he didnt have the suit, so much better. Peter literally was "more than the suit." Tony's line, "If you are nothing with out the suit, then you shouldn't have it." We see Peter develop from wanting the suit very badly, hacking the suit so that he can get its full capabilities, to him beating the vulture in just a sweatshirt and normal web shooters. I liked that part. I think it wouldve been unrealistic if Peter built his own suit, kinda like how McGuire and Garfield did. He is a high schooler, and yes he is smart, but I dont think he wouldve had access to the resources to build a nice suit. I'm not talking one with a bunch tech, I am talking about a form fitting one like the ones we see in the other Spidey movies. It made much more sense that Iron Man made the suit, and then Spidey loses the privilege of having the suit.

Also why I don’t mind the tech suit ( and actually kinda love it ) is because in the lee-Ditko run of Spider-Man which this version takes inspiration from , Peter has a lot of gadgets who ( for someone whose supposed to be broke or not have a lot of money) granted it’s a comic book lol but In this instance it makes more sense for him to have all his tech within the realm of the MCU

I absolutely adore this movie, i've seen it 7 times now and it just got better and better with each viewing! Sure there are minor differences from the comics (see Flash Thompson, Betty Brand, ...), but what this movie gets right that none of the other Spider-Man flicks got is the feel of reading a Spidey comic: it feels like he is a teenager going through school and just wanting to be out there all the time as a hero, it feels small and yet full of energy and hopeful, just like a Spidey story should be. The comedy, that the character really needs, is really well balanced and doesn't overstay its welcome (like in GotG Vol.2). Also Tom Holland absolutely nailed the insecure lovable nerd that is Peter Parker and the jokes-to-hide-the-fear "noob" hero that is Spider-Man, the first actor to nail both. He carries the movie on his shoulders, through Peter's struggles and Spidey's fuck-ups absolutely perfecly. And you can't talk about this movie without mentioning the amazing performance of Michael Keaton as the Vulture, a quite different interpretation from the comics, but a much needed and well done update of the character; the design of the costume is insanely good and the way he is potrayed makes him both sympathetic and fearful. And that scene in the car might be one of the best in the whole MCU. And shout out to Ned (Ganke) Leeds, great friend and comic-relief. Overall, perfect tone, perfect lead, perfect villain and a small story makes this the best Spider-Man movie to date and one of the most enjoyable superhero movies ever. I really felt like a kid reading the Ultimate Spider-Man comics all over again!

I think flash thompson was based on the early spider-man comics except falsh is Guatemalan instead of white but in the comics he is an inch shorter than just like like in the mcu and was really just an asshole verbally not phyisicly just like in the mcu

As someone who only paid attention to Spider-Man as a kid, this is the first and only MCU film that I had sky high expectations for and my expectations were met. This movie alone is why I started watching the MCU.

Nobody ever notices how Peter changes his voice when he's doing superhero stuff around people he knows as Peter. That's a great addition that was a pretty glaring flaw in the old movies, but it also sets up the twist nicely. He didn't know Vulture, so he doesn't disguise his voice when fighting him. Then when he meets Vulture as Peter, Vulture recognizes his voice.

One of the connections you didn’t mention which was really cool was that the high school principal is descended from one of Captain America’s howling commandos from The First Avenger and you can actually see he has photos of them posing with Cap in his office and I’m assuming that’s why he still chooses to play the safety videos for classes. I feel in your criticism of the technologically enhanced suit, you pretty much ignore the very end of the movie, where Peter defeats the villain, without the suit, and learns the lesson, that he doesn't need it. Iron Man himself tells him that if he believes he's nothing without the suit, he shouldn't have it, which is probably pretty big coming from him. Whether you like or can relate with it or not, the concept of Spider-man, believing that he needs the suit, is very realistic, because he's not always sure of himself. He has to becoming more confident, as a part of his journey, and that means learning that he didn't need it. A part of him really wants to prove himself, to Tony by showing that he can handle the bigger fights and the ways his suit can help him do that. And it's Tony who tells, him that he really doesn't need it. Plus Peter's a teenager in a very techy generation so he would be easily amazed by the suit itself. He wasn't a pro at operating it, but he's also not some old guy, he would be disinterested in learning how to use it. It makes perfect sense, even if you don't like that aspect, it's not a far-fetched characteristic for this version, this day in age, of Spider-man to have.

One of the things I loved most about this was just how small scale it really was. Peter is a kid learning how to be a hero & his villain isn't some evil tyrant looking to rule he's just a working class guy who caught a tough break who turned to crime to keep providing for his family. Adrian Toombs is just a simple arms dealer who's dealing leftover Chitauri tech from the New York "Incident". Even the mere appearance of Ironman at a failed arms deal is enough to scare off The Shocker until The Vulture reassures him. Peter's journey & growth throughout this movie is a great foundation for Spider-Man who will probably become the new Franchise player of the MCU moving forward.

I loved Homecoming! I remember laughing at loud at that scene where Ned got caught by the teacher. The reinvention of the character and its 'teenage movie' vibe was a definite plus for me. I love this movie! I think Vulture was the best villain we’ve had in the MCU, all thanks to Michael Keaton’s portrayal of him outside the suit. They’re car talk is so good! Even though I probably should’ve, and recognize them early in most movies, the twist completely surprised me. However, my favorite part has to be when Ned is asked what he’s doing when he’s helping Peter, and he says watching porn.

The only thing I didn't like at all was the suit was fully equipped with Tony Stark gadgets and A.I. But I guess he can't go into outer space for Infinity War in a cloth suit, so they had to set up Tony's making suits for him.

There are multiple references to the other MCU movies. Some of the females in one of the cliques mention that they would like to Marry Tony Stark, F*** Thor, and Kill Hulk. In the bank scene Spider-man mentions that he has not met Hulk or Thor yet and references the events of the airport battle in Civil War. Tony Stark makes an offhand remark during his reaming of Peter, "God, I sound like my dad" which only we the viewers get because of our experience in the other films of Tony's relationship with his father.

The MCU Spider-Man is the best Spider-Man out of all 3. Tom Holland is a perfect cast to play a nerdy high school student. I also loved how it was a small scale movie almost like Ant-Man but even smaller. The villain was also amazing because it was very easy to relate to him and how he is just trying to protect his family. Overall a very great and fun movie.

Spiderman Homecoming is easily the greatest Spiderman has been since Spiderman 2. How sad is it though that there wasnt a good Spiderman film for 13 years? MCU connection you missed: The principal is the grandson of one of the Howling Commandos that fought with Captain America and Bucky Barnes during World War 2. Hes played by the same actor too ironically.

Love the video! super random critique so feel free to ignore it, but if you raised your shelves higher in the frame it would be more visual appealing. The whole rule of threes, get it to 2 3rds and i think it would make a big difference

This movie is tough for me. Spider-Man is one of my earliest movie theater experiences I can remember. I wanted to be Spider-Man as a kid. To this day he's still my favorite superhero. The Raimi movies are some of my favorite movies of all time, even 3, and I actually enjoyed the Garfield movies and remember how hyped I was before TASM2. This is my favorite superhero of all time joining the MCU, something I had wanted so badly but never dreamed I'd see. At least not in time to join Infinity War. It has a great choice for Peter Parker. One of my favorite things about the Spider-Man movies is that they usually use new villains everytime, and they continue that here with a great Vulture interpretation. This should have been my favorite MCU movie by far, and it wasn't. It wasn't even my favorite Spider-Man movie. I liked it, there's too much good in here for me not to, but I think it's only a middle of the road MCU film, very enjoyable, but never able to reach the highs of the Raimi trilogy. I didn't think we needed the full origin again, but pretty much erasing Uncle Ben makes it feel less like Spider-Man to me. It feels like they got the icing right on Spider-Man, young, still in school, builds his own webshooters, quips, but they missed the cake to me. I applaud them for trying something new, but it went just a little too far for me.
