The way Willem went from a scared, confused and harmless old man to a psychotic maniac out to kill everyone as the Green Goblin was so phenomenal. Still gives me the goosebumps
I know!!! I was completely thrown for a loop; the moment he started stealing the donuts I just wanted him to get some well-deserved help, and was 100% ok with him just being Norman Osborn, no Goblin attached. And then the Spidey-Sense scene happened, the Goblin threw Peter through three floors, and I'm just sitting in the theatre, agape, completely dumbstruck. Even throughout the final fight with Lizard, Electro and Sandman I was just scanning the skies, scared he would zoom in and somehow make everything worse.

@@cirrusB612 Weird how Defoe's character of Norman actually gets more twisted 19 years later after his 2002 debut with Raimi. Sure theres less blood and no pumpkin bomb near the face of Peter in this universe but the fact he keeps smiling evily after constant punches is a nice substitute

There is an interesting contrast in the Raimi movies. Norman Osborn is an awful person before he goes insane as the Goblin. He actively seeks to replace his own son with someone already near to his family that he believe he can mold to his purposes better than what he has in Harry. The movie Otto Octavius starts off as a someone with admirable qualities. Genius in his field, beautiful wife, and happy to mentor Peter Parker as a promising student rather than a replacement son. At the end, Osborn is most concerned with maintaining his image ("Don't tell Harry."), while Otto in his moment of clarity is concerned that he will be seen as as a monster because it would be deserved for his acts, and chooses a death he might have evaded to set things right. If I could feel sympathy for any of the Raimi Spider-man villains, it would be for Otto, with Flint 'Sandman' Marko a distant second.

I agree with Jamie. Willems voice combined with Green Goblins malice makes him one of the scariest movie villains to this day. Also the "Out am I?" scene
@ImAdumb3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I'd say Electro could probably do the most damage and Doc Ock is probably the most visually scary, but Willem as The Goblin is just so chilling and perfect. Everything Jamie said is so true.

I have to agree with Green Goblin being the scariest villain out of the three. Electro's backstory had him having low self esteem and thanks to that damn sniper in times square it pushed him over the edge. Doc Ock in Spider-man 2 had just lost his wife and life's work and was going through a lot of grief. But Goblin's character is pure insanity...

that's what makes them all interesting, you can sympathize with doc ock, empathize with electro and just be scared and psychoanalyze green goblin's behavior. man, I love mentally unstable characters
@TheUraniumCore2 жыл бұрын
It really fits with the comic books as well. Just like in the movies, the Goblin is the most unhinged and makes thing personal against Peter. He's been the culprit of many of the most traumatizing moments for Spider-Man. Electro can fly and throw as many lightning storms as he wants, but I'd be much more terrified of Osborne, even without the Goblin suit.
@2KILLAVILLE2 жыл бұрын
I think Spidey vs ock had the best fights but Willem Dafoe Green Goblin was the best villain imo. Especially his Great acting with the Dual personalities & how hard he went in on spidey after still learning he was Peter!!

I went to see the movie almost a month ago now, and I must say, all of them did phenomenal jobs. Willem’s always been so great at Green Goblin, I cant even put it into words. Alfred Molina was the only person who could have ever pulled off Dock Ock, and he killed it. Jamie Foxx also did an amazing job as Electro, he made everything hilarious and did such an amazing job at seeming power-hungry. They all did so amazing, Godspeed Spider-Men 👍

I never knew Alfred Molina was English! They really nailed it with the casting of these villians in the old Spidey movies. I mean Willam Defoe Is a PEFRECT Green Goblin, the look, the VOICE. Jamie's Electro is the biggest change from the comic material but he's a great actor and pulls it off really well! So pumped for this movie!

As someone who just watched the movie, all the praises they gave the movie in this clip were absolutely deserved. When Dafoe said they put a new spin on goblin, he wasn't just blowing smoke, he was telling the truth! Cool to see a panel where the cast does seem to be genuinely pleased to be back in their roles
@davidh78322 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! And it’s because they had such a great time returning to the roles that made the movie’s performances stand out even more. And when Osborn took those donuts from the table, I was flat out laughing.
@nicolletelangdon26942 жыл бұрын
Dafoe's portrayal on this movie made me cry. His internal battle... It showed Osborn's awareness that his search for glory had led him to shame. I think the reason why so many people think this current interpretation of the Goblin is so frightning/menacing/scary is because it shows our current state of society where we are all one incident from going crazy. Also, Doc Oc, realizing that he had died and that they were all suppose to be dead was heartbreaking. Doc Oc understating that they had to go back and stick to their fates. Doc Oc acknowledging that he had to help the enemy make things right, even if it wasn't in his best interest was downright sad but proved why Doc Oc is probably the most noble of all the comic characters, even if he is a villain. Doc Oc in my opinion works from a sense of duty and dignity, without seeking glory or validation.
