The God of Song claims another ❤️ He is way better live than on recordings, and is a master in both Cantonese and Mandarin (personally I think he emotes more deeply in the former cuz that's his mother tongue)

Fun factoid: Kiss Goodbye also inspired Jay Chou to start exploring pop music in his youth, when he was studying classical music, cuz of the inclusion of traditional Chinese instruments. Without this version of Kiss Goodbye, we probably won't have Jay Chou now.

It's cute how you always feel so deeply for Jacky when you listen to his songs. Just FYI, Jacky was not just a great singer, but also a great actor in the 90s through 2000s. Like someone else had mentioned, most of his songs were produced by music labels, especially in his earlier days. Take "she's faraway" for instance, it was a remake of the Japanese song 浪漫鉄道 (romantic railway) by Shinji Tanimura. I guessing that's why he was able to emote so well in his songs. Don't get me wrong, I adore Jacky, he's my favourite singer of all times. Jacky's love life though, was pretty uneventful. He debuted in 1985 and met his wife while filming in 1986. They got married in 1996 and are still happy together with 2 grown daughters. Jacky is known to be a devoted husband and a great father who's protective of his girls' personal lives. If you'd like a peek into his love life, I'd recommend 有个人 (A person behind you) on KZbin. It has a cute photo montage of him and his wife.

Logan, my man, delicious review of the "God of Songs" Jacky Cheung. You said you've heard of the hook in "Kiss goodbye". Indeed, you might have listened to an adaptation of this song by the Danish group "Michael learns to rock" into their "Take me to your heart". One of the live viewers jc0116 said it as well. If you are open to comparing the Chinese and the Danish versions (sung in English though), that would be terrific. "Michael learns to rock" was quite popular in China back then, owing to songs like "That's why" (another epic).
@spiderhandspnz2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Counterpoints, glad to know that you enjoyed the review. I appreciate the extra info about the adaptation, as I felt like I was going insane while trying to figure that out. I've got a full schedule at the moment, but further comparisons are something that we could potentially do in future. Have a great day!

More facts about "Kiss Goodbye". It probably is the no.1 song for the last 3 decades for the industry. That album stands as a record even today (as we transit into the digital age) and Kiss Goodbye was phenomenal in so many ways. The composer of the song 殷文琦 sadly passed on at 54 years in 2019. Prior to the Internet, I did recall watching him on a talk show discussing about the song. He said this epic statement "Never ever will there be another song, just "ONE" single song that I wrote, that enabled me to buy a house" Mind u this guy composed literally HUNDREDS of songs used by artistes in Asia. Sidenote : Thank you for really taking the time,effort,energy to reviewing all my childhood heroes in the music industry.. My childhood was an eclectic mix of listening to 1980s/90s/2000s mando pop, and strangely due to English being my first language, I also listen to a fair amount of 80/90/2000s rock track (mainly mainstream too). In the early 2000s, I worked part time as security for concert events and it was a BLAST being in Singapore where ALL THESE performers came to perform. I've watched countless times, Bon Jovi, GNR, Mayday, Jacky Cheung, Eric Moo, BEP, Mariah Carey, A-mei..... list goes on. I've watched Jacky live easily over 10x (Paid too) and Even at this 1/2 century concert, at age nearing 60, he did a mind boggling 147 concerts!! And I kid you not, each show was an amazing 4 hours long! His 1/2 century series was the only one I paid for an thoroughly sat down and enjoyed a concert. My butt ached for 4 hours and I cannot imagine anyone with vocal endurance that can go 4 hours straight.... with NO GUEST STARs filling in gaps, just him, the band and 4 hours worth of what you had here were 4 out of 5 songs (Sans the duet with Francesca) that were ALL sung there too!
@spiderhandspnz2 жыл бұрын
That's.... that's unbelievable. What a phenomenal level of success!~ That's unreal, that the song allowed him to buy a house. Who else has success like that, nowadays? It sounds like you had a great time as a security person! I can't imagine someone doing 147 concerts.... that's wild, especially at 60. Incredibly impressive.
@HO7SIM372 жыл бұрын
@@spiderhandspnz Mind you i had to remind myself (and you too) that this is the COMPOSER of the song that said he bought a HOUSE!!! LOL I cannot imagine a single song changing the livelihood of dozens of people getting royalty off it since 1993.

Jacky is a 1000% pure vocalist who sings. Like Eason and many others, majority "singers" in Hong Kong market are pure vocalists. And most of them are idols. They work with production house with other composers musicians. Jay Chow and Beyond are minority who sing their own creations. Back to Jacky, he was one of "Four Kings" in 90s HK. His singing skill is the best out of four. He has more than many great songs which you can do part 2 part 3... Though most of Jacky's songs are love songs, he also has some songs covering some other emotions and tell different kind of stories. I think you may find more joy listening to these rather than the ever ending loveeeeee.

Thank you, Usher Zhang! Yeah, they're definitely different musicians - but I enjoy them both!
This first song wasnt release in 2000. It was even longer cos it was given him to him by another songwriter to him for his wedding gift in 1996. Anyway these few songs ain't his technically difficult songs at all. Popular but cos they are easier to sing. Try listen to the wake up dreaming album, 我醒着做梦。给朋友 in Life is like a dream, written entirely by Jacky. 爱你痛到不知痛. As for faster songs, 这个冬天不太冷, the melody was written by him too. If you like his music u should really listen to concert editions, he sings better and has a habit of using vry vry awesome musicians for his live performance. Incredible audio and visuals.
