Best cover of this song on youtube, great tone and perfect recreation of the lines. Was trying to explain to a friend how great the bassline to this song is, and found the "bass isolated" track from Rock Band, but wanted the song behind it to give a better feel. After coming here straight from that, this cover is essentially note-for-note perfect, even replicating Kanal's bass tone (he's very clangy in that punk style).

another great job interesting bass line I thought no doubt was starting to go places this was a really great sounding album I remember reading an article about them years ago saying that their influences were metal bands like iron maiden and priest (even though their music isn't metal) I thought it was cool... unfortunatly Gwen decided to go hip hop on us
@TJH31137 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Yeah, the did have a heaviness to them, didn't hey...with a touch of ska.
@Murdo21127 жыл бұрын
I remember reading once how they cited Rush among their influences. Listening to this bass line now, it's very reminiscent of some of Geddy Lee's lines on Hold Your Fire, when he was becoming somewhat less convoluted and complex, but before he started thrashing away with his new finger technique.
@TheGroveGangsters5 жыл бұрын
TJH3113 Tom Dumont, their guitarist had metal influences. The band was formed however by Eric Stefani, Gwen’s brother who loved ska from madness, the specials, fishbone ect. When Tom, Tony & Adrian joined in the late 80s, and eventually as Eric quit the band in 94, their music evolved and became more alternative rock, new wave with ska tones still in the mix.

Troy, all your basses sound so punchy, how much does the Tech 21 SansAmp effect your sound?
@TJH31137 жыл бұрын
It's hard to say. I don't use any extreme setting on them, they just make every bass sparkle a bit more. I can't really imagine "not" using one. All the videos I posted in the first year or so of my channel, I did not use the SansAmp; it was just the bass straight into a small practice amp. You might want to watch one of those older videos to compare sounds. Also, since I started playing through the computer and directly into the camera, the sound hot a little more hi-fi...if that's the right word for it.
