That exact drive inn theater where they went was in Lancaster, California & I saw Star Wars: A New Hope in 1977….it was the first memory I had as a human being 🤩

Did you spot all the cameos? Directors Terry Gilliam, Sam Raimi, Costa-Gavras, Martin Brest, Frank Oz, and Joel Coen, musician B.B. King and visual effects pioneer Ray Harryhausen.

And due to this movie, the first act of Mommy Dearest I just kept on laughing. The redhead general is the one who shakes her and then shakes her again, while breaking up. Naked Gun made fun of it.

Another weird 80s gem with Dan Aykroyd and his wife Donna Dixon (and a theme song by a famous band) is Doctor Detroit. Wacky movie, but worth a watch if you can find it.

Two sleeper comedies, one of which I'm going to expect Ryan to have seen 1. "Swingers" - It was the huge breakthrough and helped launch careers for Jon Favreau (also written by Favreau), Vince Vaughn (who got a job from Spielberg because of this), and Doug Liman directed (and he also directed movies such as The Bourne Identity and Edge of Tomorrow). 2. "Clay Pigeons" - It's a dark comedy which stars young Vince Vaughn and Joaquin Phoenix. It's completely slept on.

We will have to put these on our list!

"The Asphalt Jungle" (1950) - a seriously excellent crime caper "The Red Badge of Courage" (1951) American Civil War film "The Horse Soldiers" - (1959) American Civil War, one of John Ford/John Wayne's best "Ice Station Zebra" (1968) - a '60s blockbuster action/thriller "Jeremiah Johnson" (1972) - the best mountain man movie "Scarecrow" (1973) starring Gene Hackman and Al Pacino.

There is a Family Guy episode that is an homage to this movie. You should react to it, and then tack it on the end of this reaction. “I have a picture of my sister!” “I hear she’s pretty good!” “Ooh! You have a tent” “Can I borrow your tent” Every member of the drive in mercenaries is a famous person. 3 of them are behind the camera. The other had a famous guitar named Lucile and never strummed a chord in his life. All single notes of brilliance.

Great editing. Great personalities and chemistry. Good reactions. You guys picked a heavily sourced genre. Avoid following the algorithm. Give reacting to Career Opportunities (1991) a shot. Subbed.

I F’N love Career Opportunities. It’s john hughes without dripping in hallmark/spielbergian moments. Very cynical yet good feeling. Insular and tight. Whaley is sublime.

As a kid growing up in the 80's my favorite was Neverending Story. I've seen lots of reaction vids and they all loved it. That might be one he hasn't seen. If he did, well dang, maybe Dark Crystal would be another good choice.

Cold War movie suggestion 'Meteor' (1979) with a similar premise like 'Armageddon', but I prefer 'Meteor'. The effects might not be anything to talk about in comparison, but it's more realistic, if you can even use the word, but the Cold War humour is great.

When you are saying that you don't know really what is going on, that should be a sign that you were talking too much over the scenes where things get talked about or explained. It wasn't like small 10 second asides, you were having minutes long discourse and therefore completely ignoring the film. I say this because I recall having seem it long long ago, and don't remember ever being confused. I disagree with your verdicts. I'm not a graphics snob, so the effects being from that time doesn't bother me. And I like when things are slowly developed and given time to sink in for the viewer to experience, or as you call it 'drag'. I wouldn't say it's like a 9 or 10, but 7 or 8 or high 6.
@vintagemovienights5 ай бұрын
Probably didn't help Ryan that he was falling asleep! LOL. I (Joe) have always like Spies like Us, its not a laugh a minute comedy but it does make me laugh! I told Ryan his energy was off after watching it back...maybe he came in tired. LOL. We are working on making sure we watch more of the films and get better with our editing and reacitons!
@yournamehere60024 ай бұрын
It's one of the weaker efforts of the Aykroyd/Chase vehicles (and certainly not excruciating like Nothing But Trouble, which inexplicably has its fans), but drag it does NOT. It moves along at a very quick pace, and I can only assume your attention spans are shorter than the ones we had in the 80's. Of course, we were in a theater, not watching it on a laptop and giving a simultaneous reaction. It was just a Saturday night's entertainment out, and we were all about it.
@vintagemovienights4 ай бұрын
Joe Here....I think my point to dragging, is more that in the 80's we could get away with slower humor as you mentioned......attention spans have certainly decreased...mine included. LOL.
