Crowd funding will let you know how popular and loved you are. It can be a humbling thing. It's all about preparation, the transparency of the campaign, the story, the passion of the filmmaker and attached talent. Everyone has the right to do a campaign. Good luck. - Tony Clomax Filmmaker.

I'd give him $1000, but if the movie succeeds, I won't be able to share in any profits. That's my issue with Kickstarter.

I don't think the interview was supposed to be primarily about his alleged ~"misuse"~ of KickStarter (which, what? Who said he couldn't/shouldn't use it? And why not?) but it seemed to be all that Spike could talk about or felt like talking about.

This is some advice I would give for anyone. Start a KZbin channel related to your niche of film. Example if you want to be a horror film producer start a channel talking about horror elements or breakdown horror films. You want to create your own hero movie ? Start a channel talking about hero’s review comic books etc. grow your audience there it can either turn into a source of income or you can do crowed funding and have an established fan base to convert.

I like Spike and he's been in the trenches for a long time. BUT celebrity status on Kickstarter does have more of an influence over some unknown with no track record or proven ability from the view of the random pledger. More people are apt to want to be a part of a celeb. BUT with that said, it's up to YOU and your network. Your family and friends. Who You are loved by or are famous with...So I'd say on that level it's fair playing field. No one is in competition. That's what's great about it. If anything you are in competition with yourself. But having a fan, following, or network IS the definition of social media and one's success.

Plus, celebrity status is not a guarantee of a success for a product. There's a few examples now of video games with celebrity creators funding their games through Kickstarter, where the end product wasn't great.

Hi Darshan, this is one of those cases where this is the full interview. Think we had 10 minutes with Spike and he gave us a little extra time. Definitely wish it could have been more. He was great.

@@filmcourage Oh, I get it. But do try to interview some of the legends like Nolan, Martin Scorcese, David Mamet. etc. It'll be really great.

In this video he said he gave out over 200,000, on the bloomberg video he said over 300,000. He also gave the year he started giving out money as 1989. So for 200k that's 8333.33 per year, at 300k that's 12500.00 a year. His first movie make 7 million (from his bloomberg video). So giving out 300,000 in 24 years should get him a 1.2 million dollar return? Plus any profits from this movie. Damn that's a good investment strategy... Just another person vying for the soul/pocket books of America.

That's why this is going to kill the soul of KS. Most KS projects the backer gets something in proportion to their backing. More widgets, sprockets or whatever. Plays get you signed posters, free tickets, your name worked into the script etc. If he wants funding he can ask for investors, but they will want a cut of the profits. It's a business that's how it works. He is working around the system, if the film is great he gets to keep all the profit. I'd back a good movie for a cut of the profits.
