I really liked the point about whether or not it's too late to start medical school. I've done a bachelor and masters degree in economics and I just started medical school in the Netherlands as a 28 year old, I love it!!

I’m a third year medic and I couldn’t agree more with your points. Especially the thing about social life and relationships. My entire time in med school I’ve kept my long distance relationship and was able to keep in touch with my friends at home as well as in Uni. It’s all about time management and the other parties understanding that there are times (I.e. exam season) when they will see less of you, but ultimately it’s defo possible and shouldn’t scare off potential applicants :)

A lot of doctors may tell us prospective Medical students to not become a doctor, or to rethink it and I think that's because doing medicine is definitely a life-long commitment and if you're in doubt before you start, even for one second, you shouldn't do it at all. A lot of us fantasise and romanticise medicine to picture it as all the medical dramas, but you'd probably be greatly disappointed that it maybe not be what it seems. There's really no doubt though, if you think it's going to be interesting, it definitely will. At least that's my take away from watching so many videos and hearing about peoples experiences in Medical school

Totally agree with you can have a normal life as it is just like studying any other degree! Especially if you keep on top of your work, it's fairly easy to have balance!! I actually found nursing harder to have a social life as we had to do 3-4 12.5hr shifts a week for placement and would then have essays/exams due on top of that!

There is a famous psychologist at my country. Once he said this story on radio line: Some years ago, a woman starts talking to him saying she's so sad and regretful because she loved to study medicine, but now as she's 40 and thinks it's too late, she is feeling unhappy. The psychologist tells her: so why don't you start studying it? She says now I'm 40, one year for studying to enter university, and then 7 years to get graduated from med school. Gosh! I'll be 48 by then. It's just impossible. He says: oh lady, listen to me. Whatever happens, u will be 48 one day. Do u like to be a doctor then or no? She says:absolutely yes!! Then she starts studying and now she's a good happy doctor, despite of all difficulties. Promise me, each of us have different life stories. 🤞🏼💕

There are fields that combine the two such as bioengineering, biotechnology, and biomedical research. I’m sure there are others. You can use technology to help further the medical advances like prosthetics, imaging, surgical procedures and even programming for patients care and charting. This takes knowledge of both medicine and computer sciences!

What are your thoughts on taking a year-long break after High-school? I'm looking to go into med-school but I want to take a break to myself before going into an undergrad, then into medical.
@sarad70673 жыл бұрын
I don’t think you should do this because I’ve seen from others it’s really hard to get back into studying after a break from high school you lose a lot of the study habits and rhythm of studying. If anything do your undergrad then take the year off to work and study for the medical school entrance exam.
@_aimeexo_5963 жыл бұрын
I think it really depends on the reasons why you would take a year out. Sara D has a point that some people may find it difficult to go back to studying if they’ve been out for a year however, I also know someone who left and done a job within healthcare for a year before university and they did feel like it really developed their practical skills before going to uni and found it useful. In my opinion taking a year out can be good but only if it is planned out correctly. Instead of taking a break and doing nothing spend the time getting a job, volunteering within healthcare and even taking a few summer classes if you can find some that can make sure that you’re still keeping your academic skills up.
