Nimona is a graphic novel comic series from the early 2000's that BlueSky wanted to create into a live action animated cartoon movie, but then Disney did not want it so Netflix bought the rights and finished the beautiful anime film and its weird and crazy and political and very gay.

That's why I don't like half of the reviews, they play around too much and they ain't real with it. Like for real, /srs or /J like come on man. Edit: haven't read any of the replies because there's always somebody telling me to super slide so clarification: the way they "react" is always the same jokes over and over again (POINTING GAY GAY GAY LOOK POINTING GAY OH MY GOSH GAY THEY'RE GAY OH MY GOD GAY OH MY GOSH GAY LOOK POINTING GAY OH MY GOSH) and the way they react always seems like they genuinely don't care or aren't paying attention in the slightest and it's annoying. Like can you guys quit playing these little characters and make it look like you're actually paying attention to what you're watching? They don't feel genuine and it always feels like they're just crapping on whatever they're watching. Because I genuinely don't think these guys actually enjoy what they watch. When it looks like they don't care it kind of just rubs off you know? The likes tell me at least one or two of you agree with me, hopefully they change up their style of content soon. No genuine hate to them because well there's no reason to actually hates them. "Oh why did you watch the review then" because I like Nimona and the graphic novel was a big part of my childhood, hush sexy.

That's the whole Channel's thing. They like to shit on things even if they love it. I got used to it and just reminded myself to not take their reactions that seriously. Besides, they're all just masking in their vids trying to one up each other with the wildest jokes for content.

Bit too mature imo. Why do kids need to be encouraged to deny biology and also look up to non-parental adults again...? And learn that fantasizing about gruesome death and murder and other immorals behaviors atr cute and quirky...???????? I do like the anti-suicide message though. Combined with every damn thing in this movie though, it ain't it. I completely understand why Disney vetoed this, and that's saying something since Disney is on it's woke arc.

@@bungerbungerbunger246 Bro wtf are you on? It ain't my job to explain to you the legions of distinct ways your claim of "denying biology" is wrong, so nevermind that, what exactly is wrong with looking up to "non-parental adults?" Do you mean looking up to adults that aren't their parents? Because that's perfectly fine as well. Should I have spent my time looking up to a verbally and emotionally abusive father? And where is this movie teaching people to "fantasizing about gruesome death and murder?" Just the fact that it includes it? The scenes shown in the film are not too different from the Lion King, and I'd say a good number of kids watched that and lived to tell the tale. On top of that, the entire point of Nimona's attempted [KZbin-censor friendly word here] is that it would have been a horrible tragedy, caused by the willful ignorance and unacceptance of the world around them. And I defy you to list your "other immoral behaviors." Your dogwhistles and outdated rhetoric aren't fooling anyone. You've immediately shown a record level of ignorance, why not go for broke. "Disney's woke arc?" _Really?_ Heaven forbid you have to face the fact that other people exist; but hey, hope you get stronger with all that pearl-clutching. And on top of that you're trying to say Disney is progressive? The company that, as you admit, tried to have this movie sidelined, that have had like 50 first gay characters (but also it isn't mentioned in the movie) as tokens to try to sell to a community desperate for any decent representation, that makes sure scenes that would show anything against a heteronormative worldview are just brief enough to edit out of releases in less progressive countries? Are you really going to participate in holding back the progress people have made to educate the modern world out of their ancient hatreds and bigotry? Is that really worth your time? Frankly, if it's just about finding attention, please take it to Reddit. They love their conservative echo chambers. Or is it just that, with so little actual problems in life, you have grown bored enough that you have to concoct a scenario in which people who are different from you finally getting the same opportunities, respect and dignity you have always had, is somehow detrimental to you? That people who ask for basic levels of respect while living their lives is some act of malice against you? Even if anyone's existence was supposedly "denying biology," it costs nothing to show the same respect afforded to everyone else. No one is "denying biology" either, but if you can't learn that you can at least learn a little empathy.

The reason it feels complicated yet simple is because they compressed and changed the story a lot to fit into a movie. The comic itself has a lot more information and story, but with the production hell this movie went through, I’m just glad it came out. Maybe it’s because I haven’t read the comic in a while, but the changes weren’t severe enough that it lost the original feel of the comics

If Blue Sky Studios was still around, Nimona would’ve probably been their Spider-Verse. If you look at their cancelled projects (Mutts, Anubis, Foster, Spore, etc.), you can clearly tell that they wanted to take risks and be more experimental and creative (Just like Sony Pictures Animation and DreamWorks). I’m still mad that Disney shut down Blue Sky. Such a wasted potential. I'm so glad that at least Nimona got resurrected and they kept the art style. The movie was really fun.

I find it hilarious that Disney tried so hard to push this movie down the toilet while they already have so many projects stuck in development hell: the Darkwing Duck reboot, the threequels for National Treasure, Tron and The Princess Diaries, every Star Wars movie, the Pirates movies, the live action African princess movie, Sade, which I'm convinced they turned it into the live action Little Mermaid movie. And at the same time, this movie has gotten so much critical acclaim, Disney's neverending sabotage of their animated movies is biting them in the ass with a counting number of blox office flops! It's like poetry, it rhymes! Wish I would've gotten to see the movie in theaters. We don't see many queer leads in kids/family movies or animated movies on the big screen.

Big metaphors/analogies to fearmongering and propaganda against minorities, using fear to control, the victors writing the history books, use of excessive force, maintaining tradition/the status quo at all costs, gaslighting, and hiding the parts of yourself that aren’t “normal” enough for others’ comfort, among others. In 2018 I did a work shop at my states uni where we met a bunch of Australian comic artists. I was doubting my own art skills and the guy we had for the day handed me Nimona. I remember him mentioning that a movie adaptation would be coming out in 2020, it didn’t of course and I’d have tho wait an extra 3 years, but god was it worth it. 10/10 sobbed hard

Wild fact. This movie was stuck in film making hell. it was a web comic on tumblr that was contacted by Blue Sky who started making the movie, who was sold to Disney who then fired like everyone. But after some time Netflix was able to make a deal to get the movie made. It was a miracle this movie was made, and kinda explains why some parts are a bit jank. The credits also have a ton, and I do mean a ton of people doing various things. Including a team dedicated to Nimona specific animation/effects. There was also a Sweat Box team, which just look up Disney's emperor's New Groove Documentary to understand what that kinda means. Its not the best conditions to work, nor the most organized. But I'm glad they got credit and paid for their work.

I feel like this movie being a MOVIE instead of a show is a massive mistake. Some stories work better in show format and I think this is absolutely one of them. There were 3 or 4 different arcs in this movie-this could have made a really good 7 or 8 episode show. Compressing it all into one movie made it feel kinda rushed and clunky imo. This is one of the few stories that I really think would have benefited from being a lot longer than what we got. Still cute with a lot of soul tho.

This movie is, in my opinion, amazing. Its on the level of Puss in Boots 2 for me which is high praise. Its so rare to see a movie balance everything *so well* . The pacing is a little fast paced, but its just right for the amount of story they crammed into 1h 47 minutes. The animation is spectacular and only enhances the comedy and action. And while the plot isn't complicated or anything, hell they basically just give up on any intrigue just tell you who the villain is not even 1/3 of the way into the movie, but it doesn't NEED to be because the focus was on the characters and they *nailed it*

Well that's unfortunately due to the media's liberal bias, after 2019. Liberals control basically all of media except for a few stations, and this has mostly impacted Disney. Causing them to use said messaging to make the sw sequels, phase four of Marvel, Indiana Jones 5, Pixar's film's after toy story four, and so on. Dreamworks is actually the only major company still putting conservative values with characters in a good light. Which is why puss in boots was so good for 2022.

There are so many scenes in this movie that are better on a second watch, like how when she transforms into a little girl (10:19) when she sees that child, she doesn't just turn into any kid, she turns into the child version of _herself_ This may be the first time she's ever transformed into that version of herself for over a thousand years, and the kid reacts the same way Gloreth did, which I believe is Nimona's personal lowpoint in the movie... She showed her "real" self and was rejected yet again, in almost exactly the same way no less. Or the scene where Ballister removes the arrow from Nimona's leg(not shown in this video) When he pokes the arrow her leg spurts out a little blood, but then when he fully removes the arrow, there's nothing, not even any blood on the arrow tip itself... I fully believe she was making fun of him with the blood, but when she realized he was actually trying to help her(and also may be a little traumatized by blood thanks to a certain... missing arm), she stops doing it and shuts up. I don't know about anyone else, but I really liked this... I started off skeptical, and there were a few points I almost turned the movie off, but once that feels started pouring in I was absolutely hooked. I need more of this... I need a second movie!(Or a TV series; but only if it looks good like the movie and doesn't pull a Dreamworks with the animation quality)

Glad I checked it out, really fun movie and probably in my top 10 films for the year in terms of enjoyment. 2023 has been a great year for animation and surprisingly Disney hasn’t contributed to that greatness so far.
