A lot of the hate came from the fact that they branded this show as Teen Titan when they absolutely could have created original characters for this concept. They drew the attention of fans of the original en masse and it left a sour taste in everyone's mouth. Then they spanned the absolute shit out of it on the network which limited the broadcast of other beloved shows. The show is okay, but they could have saved themselves a lot of grief by not drawing the ire of orignial fans seemingly on purpose

The only time TTG has made me laugh was, admitedly, out of context clips I've seen of the movie with the OG Titans. I swear, I am 90% convinced that movie had a different writer team because despite TTG having many, many episodes dedicated to shitting on fans who criticize it (very mature guys), the movie seems to be mostly that. For those who don't know, that MLP episode was the debut of Starlight Glimmer. She's a communist dictator/cult leader who later literally resorted time traveling to ruin the lives of her enemies, making multiple dark or apocalyptic futures. Then she turned good. Mostly.
