Grew up in Utah and didnt fish. Moved to Seattle and became an avid multi-species angler but never considered ice fishing ( never made it on my radar ) Move back to Utah 2 years ago and ice fishing has become my latest passion and one of the best and informative resources happens to be a PNW guy. Thanks man, you are inspiring and its awesome how forthcoming and selflessly you share the information. Always eerily lonesome those lakes you fish. My kind of serenity!!

Those are some GORGEOUS fish! They’re my state fish (MI) but I haven’t caught one yet. I mostly get crappie, Perch, and gills on the ice. Went out for walleye last year and brought home a limit of catfish instead.

I use and love Berkeley fire line. I attach with a double uni knot and a fluoro leader. I fish South Park Colorado, 11 Mile, Antero and The Dream Stream. We have extreme temps. I ice fished yesterday starting temp was -11 degrees Fahrenheit. Ice was at 8-12 in thick black ice. A few times I encountered ice on my line of maybe 4-6 in long sections. Hold in my warm hand and it melts quickly. My fluorocarbon ices up more. Ps people keep your line ice free. You might lose a fish because of ice on your line. We use 1/16 to 1/8 ounce jigs. You fish very similar to us here in Colorado Love the video.

This is great information! Love your videos. im from the west side of the mountains. I want to start ice fishing. Is there website/list of lakes that are good for ice fishing and/or that have ice depth so I dont waste the day driving all the way over there?

If you are active on Facebook check out the Washington Ice Fishing group. I regularly update the ice conditions on dozens of lakes across the region on that group. There are some options in the mountains and many more in the northcentral and northeast parts of the state. Fish Lake near Leavenworth is the closest to the Seattle metro and popular for that reason but it is not yet frozen.

Awesome video, great pacing and helpful information. I like that you interspersed the catching with the information. Any suggestions on resources to find locations? Im in western wa so guessing a weekend trip over the mtns would be in order.

why do you need to see the bite if you are holding the rod and jigging? is it possible to not feel the bite even if the fish is there?
@spiltmilt5 жыл бұрын
With heavy gloves on and light biting trout its very easy to miss the "feel" of the bite.
