This is my first year going out ice fishing, and even though I've fished all my life via the shore or kayak, I never really realized how much in the dark I am trying this kind of fishing out. This video was a great help man.

Yep, sitting on a white, plastic bucket! Even though we have made huge advances in technology with electronic fish finders, battery powered augers, graphite rods, super thin braid and fluorocarbon lines, multitudes of lure designs, super warm clothing, and GoPro cameras, you still managed to stick with the best tradition by using a bucket for your seat. Nicely done!

You really can’t beat a bucket! It holds your shit, and is a seat.. all in one. Walking a few miles pulling a bunch of heavy junk will teach you to just take what you only need. Lol. I also like a lightweight tripod seat too, so I can use the bucket for other stuff

So I watched this video yesterday and I went ice fishing here in prescott arizona and it helped me to catch 4 nice trout in less than 2 hrs! Keep up the great content!

@@spiltmilt there's a fair amount of higher elevation and very cold temperatures out here but very few people go ice fishing!

i don't have any electronics but fish the same reservoirs around me all the time. using what i know from fishing open water i've never been skunked ice fishing. i use the same method you do to find depth just strip off one foot at a time till it's on bottom. when i'm with my kids i set a rod or two up for suspended fish other wise just 15-25 feet of water a few reels off the bottom seems to do the trick.

I used to ice fish in the UP and this season was the first year I ice fished in SE Michigan. I’m extremely salty because most lakes only had 2-3 good ice fishing days due to record warm temperatures (20 degrees above average and constant 50 degree days). I really hope to see average temperatures next year so I can fish

Interesting and informative as usual. Tech is great, but sometimes using your intuition and inherent knowledge is more fun.

What is that bait/lure/jig you are using? Used to use a little tiny yellow jug with an orange circle and a white dot on the top with a little orange powerbait original scent marshmallow thing a few years back and now i can’t locate the trout on the same lake in the same spot anymore.

Could you explain what no bait means? Are you talking soft plastics?
@spiltmilt3 жыл бұрын
In WA state no bait means live bait, dead bait, and no plastics with scent or salt.
@jsal72413 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for the reply I have been fishing in wa for a short time and just wanna not get a fine. So just spinners or skirted jigs? And are soft plastics with no scent ok?

I've seen guys put a bell on the rod. Seems to work well enough... as long as it doesn't obstruct your line I don't think it would hurt.

Maaaan are you KZbin fishermen are addicted to technology. I live in an ice fishing heavy area and I have never met anyone who uses fancy electronics. My uncle taught me ice fishing and he uses observation, knowledge and cheap homemade wooden rigs and fills his quota each year. Fishing isn't as expensive and complicated as KZbinrs make it seem ppl, get out there and go fish, thats how you learn where fish are.
