Certainly didn't plan on bringing this much attention to myself in qualifying. Knew we had a good car that could contend for the pole.
Unfortunately, we ended up with a bent right front wheel on the new set of qualifying / race tires. With the violent vibration, it apparently caused the car to briefly shut off coming out of turn two. When it reignited, the shock to the rear tires turned the car sideways and around it went.
It immediately re-fired, then died again and couldn't get it started. Jan's Towing came to the rescue to push the Jan's Towing owned race car off the track. With the push, was able to bump start it and get it running again.
Remembering the rule that if you haven't crossed the start / finish line, you can turn around and go backward. Naturally, the first lap was wasted at a whopping 2 minutes, 50 seconds. However, after making the trip back to turns 1 and 2, turned back around to build up speed coming to the line and managed pick up over 2 1/2 minutes on second lap time, to a 19.079 to put it on top of the board.
Linny White, the last car out, did end up topping our time and we officially qualified 2nd. However, in the SRL, the top 8 in qualifying draw for their starting position. I had to leave to go qualify the Super Late Model, so the SRL official pulled my draw for me and pulled a "1".
So, after the spin, put it on the pole. Had a great battle with Trevor Huddleston and Linny White. We fell just short and finished second.
Disappointed to not get the win, but we've got the car sorted out thanks to Jackson Race Cars and are now in contention. The wins will come if we keep it up!
A special thank you to our car owner, Jan Qualkenubush / Jan's Towing for having faith in me and this team and for the push start to get the car started to be able to go put it on the pole!
