This is the first trick I taught my pretty 10 weeks old male parrotlet. I believe that he is an intelligent bird, since he learned this in 2 sessions of 10 minutes each. I didn't even need to turn him halfway first, he spun the full circle right away. Now whenever he sees me, he just starts spinning on his perch, the little ham. Anyways, thanks a lot for your great videos! I can't decide what trick to learn him next, I'll take a peek at your videos.

I've had to teach my new rescue parrotlet spin several times, because she just picks up on things SO FAST. Once I conditioned her to the clicker I taught her to target a chopstick and after about 5-6 repetitions she was chasing down the target stick having a great old time. She's also an absolute velcro bird, so teaching recall has been easy. She's clipped but has a couple fight feathers growing in so she's flying a short distance to recall to build endurance and get her recalling reliably before she's funny flighted. When she's excited to fly to me she would turn around on her perch facing away from me, pause a couple seconds and complete the turn. I used capturing to click and reward this, and within 10 repetitions she knew she had to spin... But had no cue, so whenever she was on her training perch she would start frantically spinning back and forth. The next session I backed it up and started luring her to turn following my finger... and within 10 reps, if she saw me raise my finger in a position she couldn't fly to, she would start spinning and spinning. Its so cute, but patience really isnt her strong suit! Almost too smart for her own good.

Omg. I love your training videos. 2 days ago I taught my budgie how to turn around... now Im working on him showing his wings. My goal is for him to eventually roll over, but I love everything you teach and it’s changed our lives. And I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I have a general question for you. Can birds be trained to "count?" I trained my parrotlet to spin on her perch (using your training method). Eventually, I trained her to spin three times before getting a treat. Now, whenever she wants my attention, she will spin three times without a cue from me. Is she counting? I was surprised that she always spins the same number each time, stops and looks for her treat from me. ( I am hoping to get her to spin around the perch after watching last night's video.) I look forward to having a "Flock-Talk" marathon and catching up on all your previous episodes. Thanks for doing these helpful videos for first-time bird owners. I find training a bird fascinating!

hello i see im late on replying but anyways you can use a normal stick or anything thats small and looks like a stick after that put the stick infront of them and wait until they touch the stick then click the clicker and then reward him/her with a delish treat like a sunflower seed or something else he/she loves and repeat this with a minimum of 10 times or so and youre set to train him/her anything :) hope this helped you

It's a clicker... a tool that is used to train animals to mean "you did it right" without having to say "good job" or "good," it's more reliable than vocal bridges. Basically, a clicker is fast and captures the exact moment they do something right as opposed to a phrase or a word.
