Everyone prefers something else. For me the music is disturbing, beacause it is emotional, and I find it inappropriate for a cooking video. I had to watch it on mute. Also, when I cook/prepare ingredients, I cannot look at the video nonstop. I prefer when the cooks are saying what they are doing so that I can do what they say without actually having to have my eyes glued on the video the whole time. And I don't care about photography or how beautifully it is filmed. I just want to cook a meal, I didn't come here for a cultural experience. Just saying :D
@kayelle80056 ай бұрын
I like that the ingredients and quantities are listed and that the photography is good but I would much prefer to hear the instructions, makes it much more accessible for people with visual issues and for those of us trying to cook along. I will never make this because I’m a beginner cook and I need to hear the instructions while I’m following. Unlikely to subscribe.

The combination of beans and/or peas with grains like rice and quinoa can give a person all 9 essential amino acids needed for building protein in our bodies. Unfortunately, some of these amino acids are in limited quantities. Spinach and quinoa have all nine of the amino acids but still need to be eaten in enough quantity and combination to receive proper nutrition. Fortunately it’s not that difficult! It doesn’t require a college degree in nutrition. There are lots of sources (online, nutrition booklets, library books etc) to guide individuals in making good food choices- and save money while improving their diet. I am much healthier since getting off meat and reducing my dairy intake. I will eat it occasionally for special occasions but I’m convinced it’s an inferior protein source- too much fat and cholesterol. My body makes plenty of cholesterol on its own- over 325 while on a strict vegan diet!

Didn’t have brown lentils in the shops or my nearest supermarket however, I used orange lentils which is just a best! I soaked it over night. I used only half a spoon of salt and coriander; due to sodium and having Dyalisis 3 times a week. Again very tasty and quick. I also lightly fried chunks of quorum to compliment the lentil and rice dish for the grandchildren. I suggest if anyone is going to try this recipe do all the preparation before you start cooking.

PLEASE NOTE: Soaking time of lentil depends on it's quality. Some brown lentils are more dry than the others and will therefore need more soaking time. How to know if the lentils are soaked well? You should be able to cut a lentil piece with your finger nails, effortlessly. If not, then soak it for longer. It's really important that the lentils are soaked well and tender for this recipe.

Thank you. That looks very interesting. I need some simple dishes I can batch cook and this looks to be right up my alley. And thank you SO MUCH for giving quantities in grams! I'm a terrible cook and knowing how much to REALLY put in helps. When they say "cups" I wonder if we chopped it the same, how much is piled on top, and other silly things. Helps my confidence enormously to be able to say "This much is RIGHT!" and go from there.

I tried it with disappointing results. As I said above, I'm not much of a cook and I didn't use either oil or salt which is how I normally cook. Otherwise I stuck to the recipe with fresh spices and weighing quantities carefully. Before adding the parsley there was virtually no flavor, just warm mush. After adding the parsley and lemon the strongest taste was that of the parsley with just a hint of lemon. The rice, white basmati rinsed and soaked, was definitely over cooked. The lentils were perfect. I took the finished product and added a lot of salsa and I could eat it. Perhaps beginning with tomato paste instead of strained tomatoes? Rice and lentils don't have strong flavors, perhaps more spices and herbs? Maybe carrots and celery? If nothing else something should be done about the texture. Perhaps I ruined the rice but within my skill set I don't think I could have done better.

Thank you for this recipe - and all your others. It looks delicious, beautiful, and very adaptable. It’s so nice to have tasty, healthy comfort food like this waiting in my fridge after the first serving, too. Please keep posting your great ideas. I’m going to soak my lentils now! :)

This is one of my favorite dishes in the world. I am salivating watching you make it. My only addition would be a spoonful of harissa. Otherwise, this is perfection!

I made this last night. What a wonderful recipe. It was quick to prep, the measurements were perfect and it tasted divine! This recipe makes a good amount and is enough for myself and my partner to have tonight too. Thanks so much.

I tried this recipe for the second time tonight. This time, I didn't omit any ingredients. I did however, do some chicken breasts that I pre-cooked before adding it to the pot. Was probably the most taste filled dish I've done in a long time. Definitely one to do often. One mistake I made - I probably had too much tomato puree (you have a different name for it) and along with the water, made it too much water in the pot, making the rice a little mushy. Great recipe.

The addition of the chicken sounds really nice. I assume you fried it?

This looks so good that I had to try it - with a box of leftover Chinese takeout rice I never know what to do with and (always on hand in the pantry) quick cooking red lentils so I used the same process as Food Impromptu with the same spices plus black pepper (as well as cayenne), fresh parsley and cilantro - delish! THANKS!

I can make a big batch of that Sundays and have it for lunch a few work days per week. I think it will be great when paired with boiled eggs. Delicious, nutritious, filling. Thanks!

This looks so delicious! I love rice and lentils and will be cooking this very soon. Thank you so much; I'll be looking at more of your recipes. I've been a vegetarian and sometimes vegan since the 1970's, when I realized I was free to eat (or not eat) what I believed was right. Rarely eat out because Americans don't cater much to non-meat eaters.
