I've always enjoyed using shapers. Some setups are tedious so it is nice to have a couple of dedicated machines. We have a molder and profile grinder so can make any pattern knife the customer wants. Our tilt spindle Gomad adds versatility. Our Stegherr arch molding shaper produces curved moldings. Gloves can snag!

Very nice spindle moulder, I got a price the other day for €6300 for the hammer version with autofeeder and a sliding carriage does this seem right
@BradshawJoinery5 жыл бұрын
Hey Buddy, i'm not sure on new prices in the UK! I inquired about a Format 4 Spindle last year and it was around £12,000 without the power feed! Does the Hammer machine tilt to 45 degrees? as this feature is a godsend!!! I was very licky with my 700 series Spindle moulder and powerfeed, it came from somewhere that shud down and i paid just under £2000 for it. was about 7 years old!
@porilster5 жыл бұрын
@@BradshawJoinery yes it is pretty much the exact same as the format 4,the only difference being the sliding table is not the x roll system. I have since taken a chance on the brand me sip tilting spindle moulder 3.75hp with sliding table, Eccentric clamp, adjustable fence and also is pre bored for an auto feeder. Only €2184 delivered. I'll keep you posted

Looking around your shop I can't believe you bought a Felder J/P without the electric lift kit for the planer table.
@BradshawJoinery3 жыл бұрын
Hey, I would have bought the lift kit, but they don't sell the 500 series with electric lift! You have to go to a 700 series and a 400mm wide blade! 😖 I didn't want a wider blade or bigger machine so settled for the manual lift. I have contemplated adding a motor though!

What is the purpose for the last cut you made in the moulding? Other than less weight, I don't understand what is gained from it. If it is to reduce weight, why not remove more?
@BradshawJoinery Жыл бұрын
The little notch on the back of the moulding will align with the top of the cabinets so when the top of the cabinets are boarded with 18mm plywood it locates in that notch and hold the cornice securely. It's also another way of attaching the cornice irlf you don't want to pin through the face you. Can add a board in that rebate and screw down from top

great video! whats the purpose of having the second knife in the molding heads? around the 2:06
@BradshawJoinery4 жыл бұрын
It's called a profile limiter, it's a counterpart profile of the cutter but about 1.5mm smaller. It's a safety device so if something enters the cutter it just cuts small amounts each revolution and doesn't snatch it in... Say something Like a hand or an arm. 😁.

Love using the spindle moulder, my favourite machine in our workshop, but if you don’t mind me asking does your feed roller not rotate to make the wheels horizontal? It looks exactly the same as mine but I was just puzzled as to why you didn’t spin the wheels ?

Very nice, the Whitehill kit is great eh? Is that a Wadkin CD? I have a CC model I am bringing back to life this fall.
@BradshawJoinery6 жыл бұрын
It's a CC, it's a fantastic saw, it will literally cut 4" solid oak like it's butter, and do it safely... Even if the wood pinches the blade it just take sit in its stride and doesn't kick at you. I love it. Always quare too with the metal table we made. Never had to adjust it. Good to hear your bringing one back to life!
@DovetailTimberworks6 жыл бұрын
Good to hear! It's going to be a little intimidating the first time I turn it on. I'm a timberframer (post and beam?) So am using it to help with brace production primarily. I had Whitehill make a custom block for it that I plan on making a video about. 300mm diameter, 50mm wide, double shear...
@BradshawJoinery6 жыл бұрын
Haha that sounds brilliant for housing out. I want to buy a tennon cutter for mine with a 30degree cutter so I can house out saw tooth profile for adjustable shelving in kitchen cabinets. I'm just not sure it will work as yet.

@BradshawJoinery5 жыл бұрын
I'm not a Anti glove preacher. I have found if you work the correct side of the cutters you are safer having gloves on with day in, day out use of machinery and raw materials.. Its when you put yourself in a position of risk it becomes an issue. Its quite easy to pick up on something like this, I'm sure every video on youtube there is something someone will do slightly wrong and could be picked up on especially if its not the intended focus of the content.. Ill Try and do a safe handling of the spindle moulder video maybe.

Dude wheres your pressure plate on the front, for safety there should be pressure on top and front of piece especially that thin and high, you should never put your hands that close to the block either, wow wonder how long you keep your fingers? think safety and stop teaching people how to use a spindle the wrong way. T his now reminds me I should do a video to keep people safe on spindles.
@BradshawJoinery5 жыл бұрын
HI Ian, This Video was made more specifically to showcase the moulding production capability and not to serve as a safe use of Spindle. It is difficult to capture the cuts on video with a powerfeed that i use normally. I will do a walkaround of all my machinery eventually and safe working practices!
