One thing that came to mind on my second viewing, is that Spinel might be the first gem shown to possibly represent self-harm. She literally forced her body to change, including the tear track imprints on her face. And yeah, she has a lot of anger against the Crystal Gems, but it almost seems like "shattering by cop." This is a show that isn't afraid to discuss mental health, and I think it's really interesting that they can touch on darker themes without being all "Very Special Episodey."

@Kibate And don´t forget, that without her, there was little possibility that others would be able to shut down the injector. Which means bye-bye organic life, including mainly Steven (since she already dealt with his "gem half" with her rejuvenator. So I am thinking getting hit was part of her plan. Steven is half gem, half human, which means she needs to kill both of those halves to finish him off. But we know that only way to truly kill gem is by shattering, which is nearly impossible in Stevens case, thanks to him being half human. But Rejuvenator could be used as means of "killing" as well, as it wipes out all of gems memories, leaving only their original purpose. But Steven is half human, so she needed to deal with this as well. She brought injector (where did she got it tough?) to kill organic life. It meant she had means to kill both of Stevens halves. But injector takes time before it starts to work. The only one who knew how to stop it was her. And she was clearly miserable, and full of self-loathing. So she let Steven "take her out" with her rejuvenator, which caused her to revert as well. But for her, it was reverting to her "better", happy self. It would also mean that Steven wouldn´t be able to stop injector, as she wouldn´t have any memory about it. Spinel was probably planing getting hit from the very beggining.

I dont think this represents self harm at all. I think that's a reach. I say this as someone that has recovered from that, I see no real correlations. The meaning to me was as clear as Its given, to emphasize with children about relationships in their lives where they will be underappreciated, manipulated, unfriended, and how to deal with insecurities such as overattatchment complexes. Which, all kids go through in varying degrees eventually.

I can see how she could be interpreted as that. I don't know if I qualify, but I did feel intense sadness and anger in moments of my life, and I recently started to hit my head until I become almost temporarily deaf whenever stress and anger overcomes me, even though I already tried to take it out on other people too.

To me "other friends" is the perfect betrayal song that's all I think really. I mean picture if you will, you have only one friend only one person you're close to then they just replace you with other people because they got bored of you. What else could describe emotions like that? Or here's another hypothetical same thing except they're a romantic interest or you were a couple but he/she replaces you with a new boyfriend/girlfriend and nee friends leaving you alone. Then in that situation "what did she say about me?" Could have a whole different meaning as your effectively asking your own replacement what did they say about you? It's just a perfect song like that, you can try taking revenge with some real style.

Spinel’s character is meant to be the personification of that cartoon style. But it also plays into the story. Many people forgot or don’t know what 30s cartoons look like and are surprised to see them sometimes. This idea is similar to how Spinel was abandoned and forgotten by Pink Diamond. Only to resurface many, many, many years later, much to the surprise of everyone else.

One thing that has had me more heartbroken over Spinel's fate is that, on Earth, the Galaxy Warp was broken after The War. Even if she wanted to go back once she had her freedom, Rose couldn't have gotten back to her without abandoning Earth. Explaining it all to the remaining Crystal Gems would be another, more workable conflict. Probably just bubbling her and sending her over in an elaborate play-act.

Caused a whole conflict with the gems thinking he was delirious or lying or wrong... when he was none of the above. I forget the exact arc, tho. Maybe around the time we meet Sardonyx?

LeatherLace&NuzzlingYourFace After watching seasons 1-5 and then the movie, it’s honestly not a bad idea to rewatch it all before season 6. You’ll pick up on SOOOO much that you didn’t the first time, and a lot of things that happen come across totally different now! Especially things related to Rose I honestly love how, because of the plot twists that we didn’t know were coming and the insane levels of foreshadowing (not to mention insane amounts of character development/secrets), rewatching the show becomes an entirely different experience. After the first watch, you can _never_ watch it the same way again

Other friends is hands down one of the all time best villain songs i've heard. the beginning dialogue is accompanied by creepy distorted music, and, even though she's giggling and laughing, you can really feel the bitterness and anger she has. it all really works to give a creepy and unnerving atmosphere. during the brief lull in the song, the distorted music returns to maintain it, and the events that happen right after the song ends also really convey how long she had been stewing over pink diamond abandoning her as she repeatedly slashes at Steven with her energy scythe before he disarms her and hits back. even as she's cleaved in half, she's still laughing like a psychopath. Spinel truly is an awesome villain.

It was half referring to losing pink, and half referring to her literally losing the "standing still" game by moving when she wasn't allowed to. You should breakdown "Drift away" and "Found". Other friends is my favorite song at least from the movie. I love how she says "A bunch of nobodies" with a condescending and angry tone and a kinda nervous laugh even. And how she sings the final "Friends" as she slashes Amethyst, Garnet and Pearl. The same with Drift Away, how she ends all her songs is beautiful. PS: Anyone else though Kristen Schaal was her voice actress? 😅
