Spinnaker Croft 40mm Mid Size Dive Watch Review

It's such a great size! I like the shade of blue and red for this, it really has that vintage faded pepsi look. Good thing the bezel action is much better here, the Spinnaker Cahill bezel was very difficult to turn. Nice to see Spinnaker producing more mid-sized options!

What a beautiful watch Peter! I agree with you on the aluminium bezel. These bezels have a stunning color that ceramic just can't replicate. I also don't mind when an aluminium bezel gets a scratch or two. Watches with a scratched aluminium bezel always scream adventure to me! I think it has a similar charme like worn in leather jackets or subtle scratches and dents on antique furniture. Because of that I even prefer aluminium bezels over ceramic ones! The cyclops is a bit of a bummer but at that price point I won't even complain 👍🏼

Just a heads up, I purchased the leather band one and wanted to buy the metal band for it and if you email Spinnaker they’ll send one to you for $70. It is a manual invoice process so you can’t go through the website.

I got this watch a few days ago. It's stylish and fits good on my 17cm/6,7inch wrist. The finish is very good. The only drawback I can see with my sample is that the bezel is slightly misaligned to the markers. The 0 dot will be either slightly to left or slightly to right on the 12 point. I don't find it a big problem, though. Personally I find the cyclop a bit of a gimmick. You have to look pretty much straight above to see the date, and a bit from the side it obstructs the numbers. Well it doesn't bother me much either. I like this watch. It's an allrounder which can be used for as well swimming and at least some shallow freediving and still is stylish enough to be weared together with a suit.

Great review of another solid Spinnaker offering, Peter. I am now up to four watches from this company and have not been disappointed. My latest is the Boettger, and I can tell you it's one very impressive, albeit chunkier piece. There isn't much wrong with this one at all. I agree completely on your pros and cons. Drop the cyclops and blue AR, add screws for the links. The NH35 at this price point is not unreasonable at all.

Nice watch, I would have liked to see something like a Miyota 9000 movement or similar for that price, wouldn’t bother be if they removed the date complication altogether, nothing wrong with split pins, never had one come out but I have had a loose screw that fell out. Not to sure if I like the textured dial but the rest of it looks great

I agree. Pins never come out and screws need thread lock. Once you have the five dollar pin tool screws aren't worth it.

I agree with you about the cyclops. I never really cared for them, but after watching this I came to the conclusion that for me personally if I had to have one, then definitely a round one. But I can totally live without a cyclops. And in my opinion this watch can do either way. Personally I never liked the SKX009 because of the pepsi colouring, but this Spinnaker definitely works for me. And a big thumbs up for the female end links. Great review as always Peter!

They are a nice watch Peter. Great review. I’m just wondering about the price tag edging closer to 500 Aussie. I bought my Sea Urchin early last year for A$205. Sure there’s no sapphire, milled clasp etc, but mine has been crazy accurate despite being a 7S36. Bezel works fine. QC no issues. Bracelet a similar style and above all, tough as nails. It’s my go-to beater watch. I also think my SKX009 with its faded bezel wabi looks more appealing.

Thank you Peter for bringing to us this Spinnaker's piece. Brand wich I consider as good as fresh. This watch is really nice, for all the items you have mentioned. The only objection I see is its price. Taking into account that it contains a NH35 (Seiko) movement surpassing the 300's $ barrier is not accurated from my humble point of view. Thank you. Saludos!!

Actually I quite like the watch. It has a nice wearable size and not all Spinnakers have Sapphire Crystals like this one has. To my understanding blue AR coating is the cheapest so there is one cost cutting measurement at the wrong place. But I do like the circular cyclops. In can be misaligned in term of placement but not in terms of orientation. Cheers Pete! 👍

Great review Peter. I'm with you 100% on the aluminium bezel insert. To my eyes, ceramic inserts are rarely spot on, particularly in this price point. Ceramic Pepsi bezels?... Almost never, irrespective of price point. I like the size too, would personally prefer an extra few mils of lug to lug length, say 40mm X 48mm, but as you say mate, anyone can wear a 40mm X 46/47mm diver. I'm not a huge fan of female end-links as they often don't drape as fluidly on the wrist, but I get this is a very personal opinion and many of my 'watch buddies' love 'em., not a fan of the circular cyclops either - it looks a bit clumsy. My favourite thing about the watch is knowing that in a few years the NH-35 will still be ticking and that aluminium bezel will have some nicks and scratches and a personality of its own...

I don’t like date windows that have a black background ,or chapter rings that are so deep,but overall I do like the appearance of the watch from an arm’s length. I think it would be cool if one of these micro brands would create an homage that ticks all the boxes in terms of dimensions,visual appeal,no date,316L steel ,sapphire etc but that has a Swiss Ronda movement and is $250 or less but is stunning to look at..

Hi Peter, thanks for the review. At first look Spinnaker seems to make some appealing models, but on closer inspection there has always been some detail that has turned me off them..There is only room for 1 Pepsi in my collection and I have the SEIKO PROSPEX SBDC057 with the 6R15 movement. Still selling for a bargain on Sakura in Japan approx $590 AUD , and was a better buy when the dollar was stronger. Too much Pepsi is not good for you...

I can buy a watch from aliexpress with sapphire and ceramic for around $150! They are not expensive at all! But your right Aluminum bezel inserts are old school and i much prefer them to the shiny ceramic ones!

@@NathanChisholm041 a one piece pepsi bezel is very expensive to make. There aren't many manufacturers capable of making them. The ones on AliExpress are made in two separate coloured pieces and then joined together and as such are liable to split eventually. San Martin have recently started making a one piece ceramic pepsi and they charge a hell of a lot more than 150. Apparently they fire more failures than successes,hence the price. We can send men to the moon but when it comes to making real pepsi bezels were hopeless.🤣

Which Seiko? I own several, but what in this price range is vastly superior? Factor as well that Spinnaker frequently offers a 20% discount across their line. You won't get anything better for a movement, no sapphire, and unlikely even a machined clasp.

@@rwong2024 the 20% offers are frequent and often across the line. I own two Sammy's and I can't say they are any better than this Spinnaker in components or build quality. The King models are also $850 Canadian here at AD'S. My point isn't to denigrate Seiko at all. I own several and love them, but I just don't see that this Spinnaker is overpriced. I'd say just about right. And alignment is not going to be a crapshoot! 👍🏼

Seems a nice watch, but.. I'm aware of how heavily they've invest in "influencers".. A lot of reviewers with affiliate program and discount codes.. All of you are ok with the 350$ retail price, but 15/20/25% discounts everywhere.. Hmm seams suspicious to me. Would prefer a less aggressive marketing, but more fair one, with a more REALISTIC and HONEST price tag.. Just my opinion
