SPINNER Fishing for BIG Trout! (AWESOME UNDERWATER FOOTAGE!!)

Fishing for stocked trout is not something we have made a habit of here on HFA but it is hard for us to pass up a good opportunity. Each year the WV DNR stocks trout for 2 weeks in the fall. During this period of stocking a high majority of the fish are brood trout, which are trout that are used for spawning purposes at the hatchery and are generally larger sized fish. This can be a great time to get out and easily catch a fish much larger than most people normally catch as long as you're willing to spend a day trying to figure a few out. Spinner fishing is one of our favorite ways to catch these fish and with the clear water it was easy to figure out where they are. I hope everyone enjoys watching a spinner fishing video!

Couple of very nice fish. 10 Miles.... did I hear that right? Good lord. I was surprised, but not surprised and the lack of fight in the 2nd trout caught. I know sometimes stocked can be a lame duck, but man for a big fish he basically just rolled over and came in lol. At least then you don't have to sweat losing him. Nice job putting in the work and getting away from the crowd. I always do the same, just not 10 miles lol.

Depends on what you consider the upper half lol They usually stock the eastern half of the state/where there is already trout water. So if you live farther west you're in trouble haha

True test of skill is to consistently catch your limit or more 7 days after a stocking. With all the pressure over a weekend and many caught and kept this will test your mettle. I've guided for 30 years and fisherman regardless of tackle who can do this will be successful anywhere they go.

Yep those stocked trout after a few days get more pressure than just about any other fish. Not only that but the fish haven't quite learned how/what to eat as a wild fish either. So there is this awkward period where they don't really eat normal things and they're fished for constantly. It can be overly tough.
