Firstly, definately get rid of the rubber tyre. Secondly, fixate the final axis also from the other side, just like you do with your gears. Both should help with the vibration issue. Definatly use lubricant (like many have already suggested). And lastly: no cheating with the drill for top speed. If you really need to use the drill to overcome static friction in the system, please use it only as a starter (maybe building a temporary connection to one of the middle gears, that can be removed easily when the system is started up).

I was going to mention fixing the wheel on both sides: that definitely seems to contribute to the vibration problem.
@ninjafruitchilled
@ninjafruitchilled 4 жыл бұрын
@@PhilBoswell It could be used to fix more than that, if motors are added to the other side as well. This will reduce the torque load on the axel since the load will be applied in the same direction from both sides.

Use fewer gears. Even good gears' efficiency is 98%, these plastic ones are probably 70%. You lose a ton of power on every gear connection. Also yeah use some lubrication dude, motor oil would do best but for short experiments cooking oil is fine too. When fresh it provides about the same lubrication as motor oil but when exposed to air it turns into sticky solid gunk in only a few days.

I suspect motor oil may chemically melt the ABS plastic. A silicone based lubricant is probably going to be safer (as long as it isn't propelled with acetone) but less effective.

I would use white lithium for heavy loads at low speed but pure silicon grease would be great at room temperature for lubricating the parts. I'll give it a try later and update if it works. I'll be using up to three regular motors, I don't have XLs.
@Tom_-

Why not use a dry graphite powder as lubricant? Might work better on the plastic as it won't react.

No talking, no wasting time to make the video longer, just what I came here to see. Good work man, appreciate this video. Also, you might have more success if you lubercate with grease or oil so there is less friction that makes the legos hot.

The video is pretty silly but i really enjoyed seeing how he built the mechanism to increase the speed on the wheel. I learned something today.
