Argh! The reason such a small object can do so much, is because Rotational Energy exists. An object rotating will always do more then an object in motion. Kinetic energy and Rotational Energy are planet killers. Of course, add more mass and it will be even bigger. It's like, a marry-go-round, you can store vasts amounts of energy in an object's rotation.

At 1 revolution per second, a point at the equator of the Earth would be going at a little bit over 13% of the speed of light. On the other hand, a point 1 centimeter away from the center of the Earth would barely be moving at all. That is, unless my math is wrong and I'm just really stupid.

You should do this again, but this time see what happens when you place Mercury so it barley makes contact with earth, then position lock them both, so Mercury dosn't get absorbed and you can experiment more. Like for example leave Mercury's rotational period normal, but make Earth's rotational period quick. See if Mercury gets torn apart by the force of Earth spinning super fast, or if it just speeds up Mercury's rotation. ~Just a suggestion~

One thing that Universe Sandbox didn't simulate that Randall Munroe (the writer of XKCD) talked about in his "what if" blog was that if you spin the Earth faster, it gets wider because of centrifugal/centripetal force. With 1 second days, the Earth turns into a deadly buzz-saw, and vaporizes everything in it's path. Here's the link for those interested: what-if.xkcd.com/92/
