I just got a Schact Matchless and have been learning to use it and someone told me, 'change your ratio,' and i had NO idea what they meant. Your video explained everything i needed, using the very wheel i'm learning on, so I appreciate you. thank you for posting this.

I’m so glad I could help. Congratulations on your Matchless - they’re fantastic wheels. 😁 There’s so much terminology to take in and I think people sometimes forget what it was like to be a beginner.

Great, as usual. I’m so glad you asked for photos of additional wheels because those were fun to see. I’m learning a lot with this series. Have you ever tried to work out the ratios represented by the various speeds of your e-spinner? Maybe with a piece of blue tape and a super slo-mo camera🤷🏻♀️🥰

This is so useful. I have just been gifted a (second hand) wheel and I'm just getting to grips with it all. This wheel has multiple options. 3 groves on the whorl and 3 on the drive wheel, so I'm guessing that means a lot of variation in possible ratios.I don't know what make it is, but it's the upright shape (Is that a castle?)
@TinyFibreStudio Жыл бұрын
Fantastic! Welcome to the world of spinning! The Ashford Kiwi and Joy have a similar setup to the one you’re describing with three grooves each on the wheel and whorl, used with a poly (stretchy) drive band. On those, you have to use the front-most groove on the wheel with the front-most groove on the whorl; the middle groove on the wheel with the middle groove on the whorl etc. so they have three ratios. There are other wheels that use a similar setup but hopefully that gives you a starting point. And yes, that’s an ‘upright’ or ‘castle’ style wheel. I’m now aware that ‘upright’ is the technically correct term - Castle style wheels are those with the drive wheel above the flyer although common usage, even among spinning wheel manufacturers is to use the term Castle style.

Again, a wonderful video! I've noticed that my Kromski bobbins have different sized whorls on either end, so I suppose it matters which way I put those into the flyer if I want to control the ratio?
@TinyFibreStudio3 жыл бұрын
I’m not massively familiar with Kromski bobbins but if a wheel is designed to use both Scotch tension and double drive, the bobbins will be as you described with different sized whorls on either end. The small end is used for double drive, the big end for Scotch tension.
@faziarizvi3 жыл бұрын
@@TinyFibreStudio It is indeed designed to use both. Thank you!
@carolecole4295 Жыл бұрын
What is a drive band and what is it made of?
@TinyFibreStudio Жыл бұрын
The drive band is the band that goes around the drive wheel and the whorl/bobbin or both depending on the tensioning system. They’re usually either made of cotton or stretchy rubber. If yay haven’t seen ‘how spinning wheels work’ yet, I’d recommend watching that one as I go through each element of the wheel there. kzbin.info/www/bejne/npi7hGSqj7CEldE

@@TinyFibreStudio Thankyou for the info! Would like a site where I could order parts…my spinning wheel has no information or label of the model…
@TinyFibreStudio Жыл бұрын
Is it relatively new or do you think it’s an older wheel? If you can send me a photo I’ll see if I can identify it. You can contact me either via Instagram or if you go to tinyfibrestudio.com you’ll find my email address on the contact page (I’d post it here but I’d end up with lots of junk mail).
