Spiralwinder caseback install (see through) on Omega Speedmaster 1861 Broad Arrow 3594.50

In this video I show how to install a see through caseback on my 1998 Omega Speedmaster Broad Arrow 1861. Install of this caseback also decreases the thickness of the watch about 1mm.

I just fitted the same caseback to my 1861 and absolutely love it. Got the back on as tight as possible, so should be good and not worried about its water resistance as my watches never get anywhere near the stuff.

These display backs are great; after a customer asked me to install one on his Speedmaster, I wanted one for myself. I had great difficulty at getting his watch watertight; as an ex-pro watchmaker, I have two devices to check watertightness, and it failed on the "easy" (vacuum) one already. Turned out I needed to turn the new back on just a little tighter. Therefore, I don't recommend one should do this on their own without at least some watchmaking-skills or equipment. In the slightest doubt, invest one or two dozens of bucks to have this done for you properly; and insist on a waterproof-test! My watch is a 2020, 1861 caliber. Nobody needs that posh 1863, the 1861 is actually functionally better with the delrin central seconds-hand counter-wheel brake.

Didn’t you forget to put the secondary gasket ? That in the magnetic shield ? Normally on de movement holder ?

The gasket was there. The metal piece was the magnetic shield
