Spirit Guide: Shroud of Silent Mist

Shroud is one of my favorite spirits but I always struggle against the pace that some adversaries, the biggest takeaway I got from this was that I always focused on growth 2 and focusing on top track but it delayed getting to the crucial 3 card plays. Your insight into encouraging growth 3 to gain energy and hand size more frequently to supplement lack of energy while going bottom track. This has changed my perspective to think more about when to chose each growth options, with my old growth pattern, I often got caught in a reclaim loop similar to Lightning.

Informative guide on one of my favourite spirits too! Love the theme of this spirit but have felt frustrated playing it in the past because it didn't felt like it matched the speed of some adversaries. I'll give it another go after this, thanks!

Awesome guide, one of my least played spirits, mostly because there are so many tools and utilizing them is effectively is time consuming and I don’t wanna slow down my partner. But, what a cool spirit and you gave a lot of fantastic insight! But the toolkit is difficult to access and this was a great showcase!

So, this isn't exactly a new video at this point, but Shroud is one of my favorites as well. I find that adapting to the adversaries is very interesting with this spirit. For example, against England, your slow damage to a lot of buildings is actually extremely effective at taking down the capital, but you have to time it very carefully to make sure you don't get hit by 7 buildings. Against France, playing for Slow and Silent Death is extremely dangerous in the early game; you are on a very strict town budget with how little you can impact early game and will die to blight cascades or town limit during escalation if you are too greedy with leaving towns around, so I tend to play more for controlling explorers (e.g. 1 damage to 2 explorers to prevent 2 towns building), getting Dahan counterattacks with Defend rather than using the DNPIR effect of Unnerving Pall, and sacrifice early fear just to survive long enough to scale, and the second tier of your right innate is actually extremely strong in this matchup. Against Habsburg, loss conditions (mostly against Habsburg 6) are absolutely terrifying, but your ability to hold damage on towns until they move into blighted lands is extremely useful. I wish the spirit was a little more stable/had a bit more of a power budget to be able to comfortably bring it into high level multiplayer more often, but it's otherwise such a delightful brain-burner with how many decisions it gets to make every turn.

Personally my strategy with shroud was to clear the top track as fast as possible after securing 2 card plays to get the air element to consistently unlock a little more energy and the 2nd level innate. Will consider just prioritizing the bottom track next time.

Is the stranded aspect of shroud played the same way as base??

Coming back to this video after all the NI content. Do you still feel that serpent is one of shrouds best spirit combos? Are there any other spirits that you think pair well with shroud?

how are you killing the structures and adding fear automatically? is that a custom hotkey?

Go to Options > Game Keys, and then scroll down to Destroy Piece. I set it to my side mouse button. It will remove the piece and add fear. Events that disable fear will prevent the fear from being added
