Hi Ryan, at 24:46 you forgot your 3rd card play 😂. I think WWB is a great spirit with much variance and theme. Sadly I feel than animal healing is better than water healing. The downgrade when move into your lands makes presence placements so much more important (and you lose 4 in the first turns) and only one downgrade per move always resulted in a big stack of explorers for me. Also animal majors are so good with roiling waters. Thats why I have the feeling that WWB is slightly dragged towards animal healing, even when I plan to go water. Animal healing just gets more stuff off the board with much more fear 😢. Nevertheless I love WWB and thanks for your great work Ryan <3.

If you took Gold's Allure turn 1, play it on land 6, you can Gold's Allure out the wetland explorer. Then, you strife an explorer and play Draw to the Water's Edge, which pulls both towns into land 8. Perfect target for Smothering Infestation later too.

Hi Ryan, you like your games extra hard, right? At 25:00 the disease should go to D6 (4 towns) instead of D3 (city + town). At D6 it would have provided some value, instead in D3 it stayed there until the end. Good game, you are just too skilled with fear cards 😜. P.S.: I just played a game against prussia, when I draw Rising Interest at the 2nd last turn. Sadly I could not pay for it which would caused an instant loss after the invader phase 😢. I decided to re-draw it and won in the ravage phase with no invader left on the island.

Sure playing on the App is nice, clean , pretty and accessible but Stranded Shroud is what Shroud should have been from the jump. If you have tried Shroud before without Stranded I URGE anyone whom hasn't TRIED Stranded as it just solves some of Shrouds worst matchups. Triangle trade ? done , England stupid builds ? , Done ! , HLC gathers? , Done ! , Russia while sacrificing a single fear prevents the pushing of an explorer? {with added bonus of preventing a fear BOMB} , Done! <to possibly prevent that ,Which can be Great since denying a push can be so helpful against a Russia 3 three explorer Ravage> , and just about any other advisory vs. Stranded with an isolate is SOO much better ! Turn one , two or three , isolate win can save your cloudy ass vs. just about any advisory especially against the highest difficulties if the cards turn up right!

There's a HUGE space for new adversaries. Just skip the 6-step-adversary framework. go for only one level First idea: Make an adversary that branches out, like an if-else flowchart, with given checkpoints. For example, when exploring the first stage II or III card, "if the adversary has X cities, do stuff, else, do less/other stuff" Second idea: Adversaries that affect/weaken the spirits. 1 less energy gain or card play per terror level - or skip growth after the first stage II card - or other deteriorating stuff Third idea: Add an ability to pay to affect the adversary. Pay energy, cards, presence, dahan or blight of the card in order to affect/control the adversary - exchange a stage II with a chosen stage I card, skip half the builds or ravages Fourth idea: An adversary that adds fear tokens, e.g. 6 tokens per player, and fewer cards If there is ever creativity left, there's options left. also, there's a lot of custom adversaries. Here's a few boardgamegeek.com/thread/2969207/custom-adversary-collection and here's an adversary generator for you creative folks spirit-island-builder.pages.dev/

@ryanlackie1129 we kind of try different ones and just go for it. We probably have 30-40 games total. Last night I played transformation wildfire and he played Roots. We randomly picked Russia 5 and no idea how we won that game. He generally likes more offensive spirits like dances, volcano and darkness. I play more of the defensive style or dahan spirits like nourishing and eyes. Although I really enjoy transforming and wounded waters.

In the past I've found France to be a bit confusing and annoying to lose to the towns - but it's been a long time so maybe I'll be able to handle them now 😅 Scotland is by far my most played against adversary when I'm playing physically. I kinda get why you're not so into Prussia, it does feel like you only get half a game XD I've played so little against the Habs, maybe now is the time to start. I've also not played against Russia much, but... they can wait.

Could you explain your major draft/why bloodwrack plague wasn't in contention? Seems pretty strong against HME with all the disease adds
@ryanlackie1129
@ryanlackie1129 11 күн бұрын
7:14 The quick answer is that it's too expensive and does too little In this moment, we want to draft and play any animal card so that we can use the left innate to clear up the LC. With 3 energy, we can either grow top track for +3 up to 6 energy, which would allow us to afford plague that turn, or we can grow bottom track, which will leave us 1 energy short, forcing us to play Fiery Vengeance. Yes, playing Fiery Vengeance and growing bottom would give us the right innate, but that's just one measly damage. We also would do less damage in H4 in the fast phase (3 vs 5 damage). So taking Plague and growing bottom track means we don't get the play the major immediately, which undermines the point of playing a major, and we're just worse off overall Let's say we go top track to play plague, what's the card going to do anyways? Defend 3 in and around H2? That doesn't accomplish anything, still have to take a blight or burn a disease in H2. Ideally we would be able to threshold the major and do tons of damage with it, however we're now 3 presence away from the 3 card plays on bottom track, this will take 2 turns of growth + 1 turn of reclaim to get there, so we're much slower, and we will be too late Compare all of this to tigers hunting which is half the price, meets all the short term needs of the game, and can be thresholded without a 3rd card play if we draft a lucky tri-element card (though this last point is the least important). Tigers hunting is much more effective than plague without the threshold. Hitting 3 card plays is a really big deal on vengeance since the left innate doubles in damage and the right innate triples (ignoring badlands). So cheap cards are going to hold more weight since we can afford them on a lower budget

Regarding land 1's last ravage: Being unable to skip builds is a modifier to disease that also applies to ravages in mining lands, so no, you cannot skip the ravage. However, you CAN use Vengeance's special rule to allow this ravage (as well as any builds in lands with disease) even when this event is in effect, since you get to choose the order to apply the two modifiers, and thus you can still get a fear. You also can use the same ordering trick to apply Terror of a Slowly Unfolding Plague before Strike Low with Sudden Fevers to get an extra fear for each ravage skipped -- really great when the land would double or triple ravage!

I'm a bit surprised you rated Habsburg Livestock so high, when they are similar to Russia in that ideal play is to just let your island blight to avoid the special rule and hope you can deal with the blight card. It's possible to intentionally let a little blight for 1 town but trying to minimize early blight makes the midgame super punishing. They're probably my least favorite England I also rate much lower solely because England 5 punishes certain spirits way more than others. England 4 is really good for casual play or as second adversary but I loathe the box I feel England 5/6 puts me in if I want a challenge with a reasonable expectation of victory with a random spirit (Sorry River/Wildfire/Shadows/Earth/Sunkitty/Teeth)

One additional factor I use when ranking adversaries (especially on tabletop) is the cognitive load it puts on me, which is to say: how much of my focus it takes to remember everything they do and play them right. Prussia is the easiest here since they don’t add any mechanics beyond the very simple escalation. England is easy too as all their rules are around building more stuff and having extra health on buildings. High immigration and the extra fear at lvl 6 are impossible to forget since it modifies the board so you can see it when you add fear or do invader actions. After that it’s probably Scotland and Sweden. For Scotland, outside of setup changes they just modify invader actions on the coast, plus Scotland 6, which I never have trouble remembering. Sweden is also very thematically cohesive, as they are all about the powerful ravages and dahan conversion, so I don’t find myself confused or forgetting their rules very much. The worst, at least for me, are france and HME. After lvl 3, France’s mechanics feel largely unrelated, and they are a bunch of small things that are easy to forget while lots of other things are going on. Also, I find it really easy to lose track of slave rebellion if it’s been a long day and I’m not at my sharpest. HME also has a lot of small things going on, and I’m not sure if I’ve ever had a game where I don’t mess up the pieces they add by forgetting a mining boom, lvl 6 explorer, or escalation explore at least once 😆 Russia and HLS are in the middle, they have more going on than the first 4, but I generally have less trouble remembering those things than with France or HME.

You can take one blight each turn, and focus on the non-building explores with Fog Closes In and Dissolving Vapors Stage 2, level 2 Suffocating Shroud clears an explore and escalation by itself; aim for this asap. Try not to die to ravages otherwise. Use Fog Closes In and level 1 Suffocating Shroud if you can't hit level 2. Dissolving Vapors should not really be played as you won't have the energy. It was a huge risk to have to see the event after the second Slave Rebellion, since you could have been forced to take a blight somewhere or pulled Farmers (which kills you immediately by taking a blight or making land 2 build + another extra town). You should have simply destroyed two cities in the slow phase of the previous turn to guarantee the win. I think this is a very interesting matchup for Shroud. It's very much about managing your risk and recognizing how many explorers and towns you need to destroy to survive stage II. The water innate tends to be stronger than normal if you can pull a card like Mesmerized Tranquility or Sap, since you can push explorers into ravages to get rid of them. It's very easy to just lose to events, though.
