I work at this location and this was definitely the worst time to come in! We just opened and are still getting things in. I set up multiple new items, animatronics and walls today! and we do have face masks coming in. Definitely not the time to visit lol side note fog isn’t added because we aren’t supplied with fog to waste for the year. The animatronics gets sold at the end of the season where as fog would just go to waste.

Past 5 years I've noticed more and more trunk or treats and home Halloween parties instead of traditional trick or treat. I still keep my house decorated and bowl of candy in case. 4 years ago I started joining trunk or treats at the ball field. Decorate my car and hand out candy.

So fun fact about the fog machine based animatronics( 4:37 ), the reason that they cannot use the fog in store is because the fog would make the floors slippery and thus the floors would be a safety hazard! So that harvester of souls animatronic was working correctly, it just didn't have a fog machine hooked up to it!

I can see why so many people make their own decorations. These things are cool, but WAY overpriced for what they are. Some PVC pipe, a motor from a car windshield wiper and a trip to a thrift store for clothing, and you have one and done.

The mermaid skeleton was quite obviously, to the kind of dork like me who knows this stuff, a "Fiji Mermaid." The Fiji Mermaid was a display created by Barnum by sticking together a taxidermied monkey and fish, and putting up a sign calling it the Fiji Mermaid. It's a delightful touch and reference by that company.

For plus size costumes you will need to go to a store that has pattern catalogues. I used to work at Hancock Fabrics and people would start in July to get their costumes ready for Halloween.

I have coulrophobia (re: fear of clowns) so I can see that my Spirit visits are going to be a bit tense this year (vs other years when the clown count has been a little more reasonable). But I guess that's what Halloween is all about, right? ;-) Re: Harvester of Souls. Looks like it wasn't loaded with fog juice but I have to agree that it's impressive. If I bought animatronics, I'd probably buy that one. I look forward to your Spirit walk-throughs every year.

RE: Harvester- in my experience, and this may just be local, the animatronics that rely on fog machines for their effect *never* actually have a fog machine set up in store. Maybe the local franchise owner is just a miser and doesn't want to "waste" the money, but given that apparently *no* Spirit *ever* stuffs their animatronics, I'm thinking it's more of a company level "don't 'waste' money making our props look good" directive.

I work for Spirit. The store I am supposed to work in has problems getting their permits due to less people working. I was working in another store today and our district managers manager was with us most of the day and she was on the phone with so many store managers about their permits and all the problems they are all having. So don't get discouraged, they might just open later than normal.

You should check out Top Dog Halloween in Houston. Or if you're too far away have someone check it out for you. Place is huge! More costumes than you've ever seen in your life and great props. They've got a full size skeleton on a horse whose eyes glow green and fog comes out the mouth of the horse and Rider. Things got to be 7 ft tall.

the fire/flames are sold but only after Halloween (as well as the rest of the displays) on a first come first serve basis, you just have to ask a worker to put your info on a waiting list and they will call you when they become available.

The mermaid prop is called the Fiji Mermaid. It used to be an old standard for freak shows. It was displayed as proof of "real mermaids" but it was really taxidermy of a monkey sown to a fish tail.
