Spirit Island Basic Strategy - Thunderspeaker

A basic introduction to playing Spirit Island as Thunderspeaker.
Thunderspeaker is one of the most flexible and powerful offensive spirits in the game, sending armies of Dahan across the board to destroy the invaders. In this video we only cover one of their openings, but many other strategies can also work for the spirit. Hope you enjoy!

Letting lands go is my biggest takeaway from your videos! I've always been playing wack-a-mole trying my hardest each turn to deal with ravage (mostly caring about fast powers and ignoring the rest)

I'm glad to hear it! Something I've come to appreciate more and more as I play the game is seeing a built up land with no Dahan ravage and do nothing worse than add a single blight while I solve every other problem on the island with my turn. Then I can focus my revenge on the next turn :)

Same - I'd focus too much on spending uneccessary energy and cards, instead of letting those go and planing ahead to prevent builds and cutting off parts of my board from future growth. Learned that from Kalen vids

I’ve watched your videos before, and commented in the past. I’m a big fan of your explanations and concept clarification and general communication skills in your videos. Articulate is word I was struggling to …articulate there. I’m really glad these videos exist! A good friend of mine recently started playing, they don’t like the lower complexity spirits not because of the complexity, but they just aren’t drawn to them. They do like Thunderspeaker, I really appreciate the resource you’ve made and I’m gonna send him this direction!

Thunderspeaker is one of my favourite spirits to play, such fun games. It's highly thematic and stimulating to play. First time on your channel btw, and already love it, especially how you go into detail with your train of thought. One question though: how do you feel about using the videogame port vs the board game? Pros/cons?

Glad you're enjoying it! The video game port is my favorite way of playing solo games, for a couple reasons. One, it's very fast and eliminates setup/teardown (also enables playing way more games in the same amount of time). Two, I never forget a rule when the game enforces them for me. For multiplayer, I have more mixed feelings. The open beta multiplayer is really nice at this point, but I really like the experience of physically sitting at the table with family/friends to play. Also, not all of my friends who play the game have the digital version, so I can't play with them online. The other two things I'd comment on are price and Jagged Earth availability. The digital version is only about $30-40 depending on if it's on sale for the base game and Branch and Claw. If you're a solo player, that's a slam dunk discount over the physical version. However, as someone who just picked up JE recently for physical, it is a beautiful expansion that probably won't get into digital for quite some time, if ever (I've heard the developer would like to adapt it, but hasn't started work on it yet due to multiplayer and other games).

sometimes a feel super powerfull with this spirit and sometimes completly usless. i think it is because of bad dahan positioning. i hope this video will help me undertand it better.

@@kalennoreth ​ when i get vigor of the breaking dawn or wrap in wings of sunlight, i usually feel good on low difficulties. it allows to move/ defend/ do dmg with dahan + elements , without those i struggle to move dahan or save dahan from ravage.

Hello great material as guide keep them coming! Just 1 question: at 14:47 what exactly did allow you to reclaim one of your spent powers from previous turn? Can't really solve it...

Thank you, and I'll do my best ;) I believe the reclaim at that point was from Gift of Constancy's effect, which lets you reclaim a played power at end of turn instead of discarding it. Apologies if I'm misunderstanding your question!
