I don't think I'm onboard with starting cards being inferior to minors. You want to dig for extra cards anyway just to increase your options and reclaim less as you get more plays, so its really hard for me to see them as a 'burden' on the player that deserves more upside. The combination of it being a boon with 0 cast range should really allow for big effects. If you can get defend 10 on a sacred site, then defend 8 on a land with 1 presence, as a boon, seems right to me. I think with the innate there is a fair argument that the level 2 feels underwhelming. The biggest concern to me is that early fear is often better than later fear, as quickly getting lvl 2 fear cards will impact the board more than getting that extra fear later. If I was looking to play with his tracks, I think that as dangerous as it is to add energy to his T3, I think it *might* be ok if you gave the presence placement on G3 0 range, and added a range to the second presence on his G2. This would mean G3 spam would struggle to get off useful Mysterious Abductions and self casts of the Boon. I don't know that that is the right way to go, (I hate G3 spam + all bot track strats) but it does create enough tradeoffs that Eyes would need to use its G2 as well. The biggest knock on this spirit is just that he's a low complexity spirit. After you get comfortable with the game he's just boring, and Many Minds just does the whole defense and fear concept in a way more enjoyable way. Top of my list for this spirit is actually just an Aspect.

From what I heard about the development of Eyes: - Definitely, mentioned nerfing the fear on the 4th tier and didn't want to compensate the fear in the early game (I didn't like this idea and wanted the tier 2 to be a bit stronger). - Originally, G3 had +2 energy and G1 had 0 energy. They then changed it to 1 and 1 because the reclaim felt "terrible" compared to G3 style builds. Not sure what the right answer is here. - I once had a similar opinion about Eyes vs MM. But as I played Eyes more, the opinion changed. Eyes has significantly more Dahan movement and plays like a pure Dahan Defend spirit. MM focuses more on control with dahan elements tagged on. Major flex is very different on both spirits aswell!

Excellent video! Do you think you would have the time to play games with these changes on the channel as a form of play testing? Id love to see that but you seem busy enough already!

Eventually! I'm not sure it would make too much of a difference outside of increasing the # of edge cases for Eyes Watch. I think the changes to SBWW are far better since it would open up more build paths!

I do wonder what power level you think is ideal for spirits if you think eyes, who you said in this video anyway you’d consider A tier, is too strong yet some of your favorite spirits you consider to be even stronger. If the overall power of spirits was brought lower then double adversary games and such would be far harder if not impossible if both were at level 6. I am aware that this video was a few months ago and your opinion may have changed. Just looking at the power level of the NI spirits, it’s hard to imagine wanting to nerf something like eyes given I wouldn’t consider it much stronger than the weakest in NI. Or is your main issue just with the way that it is strong and not the fact that it is?

Talking about power level can get pretty tricky. You have to balance (from most important to least): 1) Elemental Theme. Does the spirit follow the theme of elements stated by Eric? 2) Theme of Sprit. Does the spirit do something unique? Does the spirit have it's own niche? 3) Fun factor. Is what I'm doing fun? 4) Replayability. 5) Power Level of the spirit vs Adversary. 6) Power level of existing minors / majors You might have a strong spirit that lacks theme (Keeper), or a weak spirit with immersive theme (Shroud). Both need to be adjusted. Looking at a spirit like HV, we have a spirit that has a deep theme, high replayability, but is on the stronger end. What could you do to the kit that would make a meaningful change in power without hurting the fun factor? It's tough to answer this question especially when given a narrow dev timeframe (we also had almost a year to playtest and I don't think we got the NI spirits to be perfect). While some of the NI spirits came out a bit too strong, I think they are pretty close. I could see some changes, but these are less of nerfs and more lateral changes. An example would be adjusting Earthquakes right innate to be less game-winning (but then you lose the satisfaction of hitting that crazy innate!).

@@RedReVenge007 yeah that all makes sense. For context I don’t mind things being strong sometimes and I don’t think anything will ever be as game warping as fractured days even if other spirits are more consistent. I do tend to view most of the NI spirits as stronger than eyes which is the main reason I was curious. It’s possible my group just didn’t play eyes a lot but the flexibility of the NI spirits is very nice. Keeper is a weird one for me as I personally think it’s theme actually comes across alright except that the strongest ways to play it tend to not focus heavily on its theme so it gets pushed aside.
