i loooove the old performance of the beauty of suffering. not the siriusxm one take, but the old one from 2017. the final "THIS IS THE BEAUTY OF SUFFERIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIING" scream she does is so visceral and packed with raw emotion - i feel like she quite often holds back on that emotion nowadays, with the exception being in the circle with me one take

With their earlier stuff being mostly horror focused, it fits mostly with those sorts of themes.

I live in their hometown of Victoria, BC, Canada. How did I not hear about this band before about a week or so ago? I guess because I'm 62, not a die hard metalcore fan and the local media really didn't put any focus on them until the grammy nom. I've gotta say....I'm obsessed with them having listened to all of their releases. The guitar tone and riffs are otherworldly and their mixing is impeccable not to mention Courtney's vocal skills. Can't wait to see them live.

Great reaction! I always think “ethereal” is a good word to describe the style of Courtney’s clean vocals. I really love her warm tone - you’d know better than me, I’m sure - is she an alto? You maybe already know, she writes the lyrics and also her vocal melodies. Her husband, Mike Stringer (who plays guitar when they perform) writes the instrumental music. Courtney is incredibly likeable too (so is Mike) - like you said, you find yourself wanting to be her friend!

You should listen to "A Favor House Atlantic" by Coheed and Cambria. Claudio Sanchez is in his 40ies and he can still sing this song pretty well live twenty years later. He is so talented he just rocks it every time live or not. My other favorites are "Blood red Summer", "Delirium Trigger", and my all time favorite song is "In keeping secrets of Silent Earth 3" All their songs are based on an overarching story written by Sanchez called "The Amory Wars"

This song is about her First Communion, and as you can see, her voice can deliver exactly what the lyrics want to tell, and it needs both the breathy beautiful voice, and the terrifing screams. Voice is the expression of the soul, and the way you use it depends on context to be done well. I really think that distorted vocals should' been more appreciated...
