When Haku said, "don't look back" it felt very symbolic of her growth. Like, she's completed a quest and there's no need to second guess the choices she made. It can rest peacefully in her past. Similar to how people get hung up on past events and can't move forward. She easily could have been traumatized from everything that happened but instead chose to accept it and learn from it.

26:03 He just couldn't remember - they either drained or filled up his river and built apartments over it, that's why his memory was shaky and he told the boiler man that he didn't have a home to go to (in the original Japanese dub he apparently said "I've lost my home"), Yubaba took advantage of that, it was easy to make him forget his name.

Spirited Away is such a beautifully haunting movie, you can rewatch it a million times and you get something new out of it each and every time. The ending makes me cry every time because it symbolizes Chihiro leaving childhood and moving into her teenage years and eventually adulthood.

In case no-one's mentioned it already: while it's never explicitly stated in the movie, Lin is supposed to be a spirit too - in fact her design was recycled from another project that was never finished, in which she would have been a Fox-spirit or Kitsune.

The magic of Studio Ghibli is how these films aren't *only* catered towards children. Adults and children can both find meaning in these movies. I remember watching studio ghibli films when I was 8-10 years old, and again as a teenager. There's something so nostalgic about them, even to a first time viewer. The stunning hand drawn animation makes me want to transport into the screen and live in that universe with these characters :) 💕💕💕😭

YES! 😍😍😍 Ghibli is my favourite! I’m glad you liked Spirited Away, it’s truly Miyazaki’s magnum opus. Miyazaki has a lot of recurring themes in his movies -female empowerment (his main characters are usually young girls and he’s said that he wants to show that we don’t need a man to save us, we may need friendship and support but never saving); environmentalism (that’s what the ‘stinking spirit’ represents! He’s a River Spirit and everything they pulled out of him is junk you may unfortunately find in a river); growth. My two personal favourites are Kiki’s Delivery Service and Whisper of the Heart. If you ever get around to watching those, especially Kiki, please watch the Japanese dub! They added unnecessary dialogue to appeal to the western public and that actually changed the meaning of the film! As far as I know, Miyazaki got VERY mad that they did so and has since been very specific about his movies not being altered. Howl’s Moving Castle is another masterpiece. And the soundtracks are MAGIC! ✨ ✨ I really hope you watch some more Ghibli, all their films are beautiful, nostalgic and magical! Loved the video🥰💖

I really love this movie as an example of old school fantasy (also called soft fantasy by some). More commonly in the past fantasy was when the main character was thrust into a world with magic knowing none of the rules and just has to do the best they can. It evokes feelings of both anxiety and wonder which you clearly felt as well. Modern fantasy has shifted more to where the main character is controlling or learning about the magic and the magic follows rules (hard fantasy). Both have their place, but I miss this style and this is a glorious example.

If you don't mind subs, I would recommend watching the Japanese dub for future Ghibli movies (if you're gonna watch more). They added music in the English dub in some scenes where there originally was none, because the western publishers thought that western audiences would be too uncomfortable with the empty spaces. (But I believe they fixed it for the newer movies) So if you want the best experience I'd watch the subbed version, although it's also fine to watch dub if you prefer them :)
@DeathsjesterKMNP4 жыл бұрын
Unless she prefers the dubbing. Which in Ghibli films IMO is very well done, especially in Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke

@@DeathsjesterKMNP exactly, it's perfectly fine to watch the dubs, especially the first time watching. But if you don't have one you prefer, I'd still go with the subs. Chihiro at the end completely forgot her adventure, but still has her growth from the experience. The reason why this was done, was to intentionally make the audience feel like maybe one time in their life they were trapped and a friend, long lost, helped them too, and that one day we’d also eventually return to meet them again.
@saklee17773 жыл бұрын
the ending makes me so sad. because when chihiro returns to the human world she forgets everything that happened to her in the spirit world and even though haku promises theyll meet again they probably never will and if she does she won’t remember him. u see, when chihiro first entered the spirit world, everyone was freaking about a HUMAN being there. so it seems like this spirit world was only for spirits and yokai. so it seems that dead human souls don’t go to this spirit world either. otherwise they would be freaking out about a LIVE HUMAN

Some Spoilers/Explanation from a native Japanese •The stink spirit is a well known river spirit which has turned into a stink spirit because of all the garbage. •The little stars the fluff(the spirits of dust) is eating is called Konpeitou it’s a star shaped crunchy sugar candy in Japan. •The OIL flag is... the 油(oil)character is sometimes read “YU” which is the same sound as 湯 meaning hot water. And so, this bathhouse is called Aburaya(oil shop/油屋)somehow. It’s strange flag even from the eye of native Japanese but with out this explanation I thought it’s more confusing for you guys lol I’m not entirely sure of my perceiving being “correct” , but if there were any points you’d want to know let me know~I’ll try to explain
