Hey folks, welcome to Spiritfarer! I knew coming in that this game was sad, but I didn't expect it to genuinely mess with my head for weeks after beating it. Everything about this game is beautiful. The theming, aesthetics, and storytelling all blew me away.

1:20:16 atul simply being gone was such a smart move. it broke me because i was so shocked. with all the other ‘deaths’ there was closure and certainty. we got to speak with everyone, hear their final thoughts and their acceptance before they passed on. it’s a testament to the game that in a story about death, they still surprised and shocked me with atul’s death. i remember being so scared he wouldn’t have a constellation, that i’d have nothing left to remember him by. undoubtedly the biggest tear jerker in the game for me

Bruce and mickey are the way they are because theyve come form a VERYYY rough neighbourhood where they couldnt trust ANYONE. Everyone was out to get them except for their mother and each other, resulting in them treasuring family as the only thing. They havent been shown respect or appreciation unless they got rough and harsh back at their environment. So thats all they know. But thanks to the slight love theyve been shown, kindness does still lurk. But it gets drowned by the rotten and broken environment theyve lived in their entire life.

As someone who’s grandmother eventually passed away from Alzheimer’s, Alice’s story was especially saddening. When I was young, my grandma had taught me a little song. A couple years later I sang that song to her and she said, “That’s a cute song. Where did you learn it?” It was crushing to watch her memory decline as she remembered less and less. She couldn’t remember the name of her husband, daughter, or grandaughters. I can’t fathom the pain my grandpa went through as he watched his life partner slowly forget everything

I am SO GLAD more people have been playing Spiritfarer because it is genuinely one of the games that has impacted me the most, if not the most impactful. I started playing a day or two before my brother passed away and decided to continue it and it helped me process so much of my grief, along with the support of my husband. He sat by my side as I played through it and with each visit to the Everdoor we cried together. I think it could be an actual tool to help children work through the difficulty of losing a loved one like a friend, parent, or grandparent. I've actually been considering creating a video essay about that topic. My mom and dad are both in their late 60s and have serious health issues so we have already discussed it together and decided when that time inevitably comes we will sit with the kids and play it together to talk about how it relates to things they are feeling. Thank for playing this and sharing this. Also thank you for sharing a brief message at the beginning regarding the topic of the game. I feel like its important to make it clear what this game is about before covering it because it does hit you way harder than you expect at first. My dear god, saying goodbye to Stanley was BRUTAL. We both knew it would be the hardest and oh boy, it was. We stepped away from PC, hugged our youngest who is roughly the same age as Stanley is meant to be, and spent the afternoon playing with her. It really reminds you to cherish the time we have with others.

I loved that you played this game. I hold it close to my heart, I played it while my grandfather was dying of cancer, and I played it again after he passed. It helped alot and I'm so glad pme of my fabriote KZbinr got to see the magic this game held. It's about love, loss and moving forward and I still play it and cry over it to this day

I played this game all throughout lockdown. It was a very healing game while I was stuck in my college dorm room through a quarantine and could really process all of the grief around and in me. Glad you got to experience this for yourself - it's truly a one-of-a-kind game.

I ended up beating Farewell addition in... 70 Hours. I did softlock myself by forgetting how to progress for *quite* a while but it was fun! And i'm gonna take care of all the spirits and fams and friends again for those final two achievements I'm missing

ive been waiting for this video, but im probably gonna have to tackle it in chunks. i fucking adore spiritfarer, one of my fave games. i got it when it came out, but i didnt play it right away. when my mother died at the end of 2020, i decided to give this game a go. not only did the simple gameplay ease my mind, but the focus on grief and passing on really helped me in the immediate year after her passing. its one of those games that is really special, and i love to see others enjoy it, and get something out of it, even if its not in the exact same way as i did

I am not an emotional person these days, due to many events of loss in my life crying is not something I do any day of my life. Not for lack of trying to or feeling the need to express emotion its just something I have learned from a young age that the shit show that life can be to any of us. But when I played this game I saw many of the people I have lost in life represented in this game and slowly over time I began slowly finding myself deeper and deeper emotionally touched by each of the characters this game presents. When the time came to end the game I found myself misty eyed and smiling at the fond memories of the people I loved rushing my mind, and at the last scene everything just crashed and I wept like a baby for the first time in what felt like forever. This is the best/worst(but in a good way) emotional experience I can remember in any form of media. this game broke me and I will thank it forever for giving me that grief I longed for for so long.

When therm talked about constellations not being clear, it reminded me when I was in college in Michigan it was the first time I could see the stars for real bc I’ve lived in the city my whole life. My friend and I were walking to our dorm hall late at night and we were looking at the stars and I off handedly mentioned how I’ve never seen the big or Little Dipper. I didn’t know if people could actually see it. And right after I said that we both saw them clear as day! We looked at each other in disbelief with no words and knew what we saw. It was such a magical moment. I’ll never forget that.

For those like Therm who are confused by Daria’s story, I can break it down to the best of my ability. Daria was born with synesthesia, meaning that auditory stimulus invokes more than just a hearing response. For lack of a better way to describe it, she can feel sound stronger than she can hear it. This disorder causes her perception of reality to be far different than almost all people. Her earliest memory is her recollecting a family gathering where she feels out of place because of her synesthesia. Her family is joyful and connecting while Daria is disconnected and feeling outside of herself. She then recollects being admitted to the psych hospital and how her caretakers initially treated her, especially Jackie. She constantly mentions an ocean, and this is in reference to the storm that follows Jackie wherever he goes (in the game there is a literal storm outside when Jackie is at the hospital). Jackie’s rage, impatience, and rough past are all perceived by Daria to be a storm. Jackie brought down Daria by not trying to work with her and understand, and as a result, caused Daria to sink into the “raging tempest” and fight against the storm (the storm also becoming a disconnect between Daria and herself, she becomes lost). When Jackie leaves, the storm calms but Daria is still lost at sea trying to recover from her mistreatment and isolation. That’s when Stella comes in to be a beacon for her. Daria refers to Stella as both an anchor and a beacon. Stella isn’t a free bird by any means, she has her own problems as well and takes her responsibilities extremely seriously, but she is grounded and does not fight against the current. Stella provides Daria with a safe grounding to find her bearings and resurface from the confusion and suffering she has endured. With Stella’s help and changes in the hospital, Daria is able to feel calm as the incessant noise that once plagued her surroundings is quiet and her condition is finally being accommodated for. Another meaning for the ocean could be that Daria was drowning in an ocean of constant noise, as until the staff started to accommodate her she was practically being tortured by the constant sound and her very loud caretaker. At the end of the day, it’s a very very cool story to try and understand. I cannot recommend playing Spiritfarer yourself enough, I have 100% ed the game twice and it still rocks me to my core.

Aaaaaa I haven't finished the game yet, but I'm definitely coming back to this video when i do lol. Giovanni is a cheater because of a few things. It explains his actions, but doenst make them right ofc but i love how hes written n the others: 1. He was a war veteran and watched many of his friends perish young. One of them he was very close with. It made him realise how short life is and how dreams could just get shattered. It has been implied he lives this life full of love, lust and passion for the life that his companions couldn't live. 2. He genuinely feels like he doesnt deserve Astrid. Hes communicated that her soul is the brightest hes ever seen, it gives him and everyone around him life. And how bright does Giovannis soul shine? Dull. Hes very good at masking his pain and insecurity by being so flamboyant, charming and confident but its mostly all a mask hes hiding behind. He isnt pure. But Astrid is.

I'm pretty sure just the trailer for this game made me cry when I first saw it, so I'm sure playing this would have killed me. Just watching this I didn't feel as connected to anyone tho. I've only had my grandpa die so far (as far as close relatives) so I can't honestly relate to death that much. I adore my grandma and of course my own family but I don't wanna think about them going. This was a sweet game and I'm glad it has helped people (reading the comments). I love games that get your feelings going and make you think. I think Disco Elysium was the last game that did that for me. I love that game so much.

I remember playing this game when it first came out and I knew that I was going to leave it sobbing (some of the stuff hit way too close to home). But thanks to this I feel like I need to play it again because I didn't know it had more passengers and bit more content (probably was put there way after I finished playing it, that or it's a switch thing idk). But even though I played it once (and again might play it again), I've love this game for it's art style, story, and characters. I'm glad you were able to play it.
