This is also ignoring the extra gold from mining stone that poles get, which considering you can have defensive castles, to get the tech to get gold discount, means you can out produce in a 1v1 Arabia/Arena game. Defensive walls and castles protecting folwark farms means you have more resources, safe and strong eco and can focus on offense keeping your enemy from raiding or counter attacking.

I think Burgundians cavalier deserved a real spot for coming an age early and way cheaper. The power spike of cavalier in castle age is huge, even without bloodlines. Yeah, they are weaker in the long run, but that isn't how they are meant to be used, especially because their paladins are also half-off. The outcome is actually longer-lasting and more impactful than the Frank scouts, which also stink long-term becuase of the bloodlines issue, but no one would say that the Frank scout rush is not good, even excellent. I would even say that they should bump the Franks from the list; The Frank bonus is really just free bloodlines (+4 hp on cavalier is so situational, it may as well not be noticed). What really propels the Franks cavalier is a good economy, not a free, already cheap tech from way back in feudal age. Real question: Do people even research chivalry often? I normally don't, because building more stables always seems easier for massing units, and it sure saves a lot of gold for more units.

it does make sense though, if you can slightly outnumber your enemy and especially for slower meat grinding fights. Not really. Spanish and Magyar can do it because they save gold (on upgrades) and for Spanish get gold as well. Teutons have to do it because you use them as a tank. So smash the enemy head on as no speed to run around raiding So Franks, Spanish, Magyar and teutons can research paladin in 1v1 comfortably The other ones you really gotta think if it's worth it. While bulgarians tech is castle age which is where you are required to make a choice. If i don't need gbetos, i often get thst castle just for the techs but i use it in a way to get some 1 time or permamant value. Either a castle drop for pressure snd upgrade techs while castle still stands or to control some rss. The first castle will always hold more value anyway and it is an advantage if you don't need it for your unit actually.
@teddyhaines6613 Жыл бұрын
Thing is, plenty of players won't go for blast furnace as it is because of its cost and the fact that armor upgrades are more important for melee units. So you can't just strike the cost of blast furnace off the cost of Farimba when it's not guaranteed you'd research the former anyways in lieu of more cavalier numbers.
@ryanforgo3500 Жыл бұрын
@@teddyhaines6613 what you are saying makes zero sense. Blast furnace might be a lower priority over armor but it is a big priority never the less because it is a plus 2. Any experienced player will never write it off no matter the case as plus 2 is as valuable as upgrading a unit and often more. A simple and straight forward example: two-hand swordmen into Champion upgrade for costs More than double the amount for 1 damage and 10 hp. Compared to 2 damage That's aprrox the same gain from the unit upgrade for double the price. so blast furnace is not only cost efficient here, but also generic for all melee types. Literally putting any single unit upgrade to shame "cavs or inf". Like wise paladin upgrade is 5 times the price for 2 damage 40 hp and 1 pierce armor so balancing the price would put a 10 damage from blast furnace gs 2 dmg 40 hp and 1 peerce armor which puts paladin upgrade into a much lower tier compared to blast furnace which again, works for everyone not only paladins. THE ONLY exception is spearmen line " and sometimes camels" where damage is not important and unit upgrade has a huge hidden bonus like helberdiers. Besides, if you want to put farimba in context you can't say " many ppl won't go for blast furnace anyway" because, you know, rhe guy who would put farimbha in context is mass producing cavaliers and is rich enough to pick it up or is reaching a trash fight point in the game and he's got to transition. Either way it is a point of the game wherw farimba price is justified as an " upgraded version" of blast furnace.

Fun fact: The generic Cavalry unit in Fire Emblem is the Cavalier and not the Knight. In Fire Emblem, the latter is designated to Hoplite-like melee foot soldiers. For reference, the Hoplite is a slow, albeit heavily armored unit from AOE1 which is analogous to the Teutonic Knight in its masterful sequel. Promoting Cavaliers into Paladins is a shared aspect across both series, with a hefty food/gold cost in AOE2 and a Knight Crest coupled with a level 10 minimum threshold in Fire Emblem. ... Surely unlikely to sway the fight in favor of the romans, but to make the romans LOSE -- that would be very, very strange. It is probably statistical noise if only one fight was simulated, but on the other hand, there were three frank cavalier left, implying a substantial advantage?

I had to remove poles out of the list completely after i ran many tests. For any nerd " including you spirit of the law :p" you will actually change your mind after reading all the test results i've ran. Although they are not as thorough as sotl would go about it. But as i was about to switch to poles after this video their last armor upgrade issue made me dig deeper and test for 2 hours or 3. Edited / after testing poles cavalier vs p dmg: After some long testing, i learned that poles cavaliers are actually so bad against ranged attacks even with their big numbers, they don't EVEN COME CLOSE to frank paladins, malians, bulgarians and berber cavaliers. 1 example, they die too fast to TC fire. A few tests running under the tc killing villagers, i actually can lose a few poles while losing non of the other civ cavaliers. This is probably because a TC does 3 dmg to generic cavaliers and 5 to poles Example 2: testing them and malian cavalier" i chose malians here because of castles 10 melee armor which means malians are a cut above everything else in dmg vs castles" and i chose frank paladins as their pierce armor and health is valuable vs castles. This test was not a "realistic scenario" as in most cases you don't attack a castle like that with expensive units. Not a value trade but just to test how bad/good poles cavaliers vs pierce attacks. It took about 23 poles to always win with few remaining only to take down chinese castle"max tech castle", 16 malians cavaliers and 16 frank paladins " i tried 15 paladins many times and lost everytime as i expected frank paladins to do much better" apparently malians 1 additonal damage over paladins, made them both very close in this scenario " i still feel this was due to rng, but hey, 1 damage is a bit over 12% dmg output after 10 melee armor. Explaination: poles do 16 dmg minus 10 = 6 and take 11 Malians do 19 damage minus = 9 and take 9 damage So that's 50% more damage dealt and roughly 17% ish less damage taken? Paladins do 18 minus 10 = 8 and take 8 dmg " In other words, poles cavalier weakness was not clear to me when i saw how many i can create but after testing them their weakness is too big vs pierce attack i have to give number one back to berbers and push poles down to 2 or even 3/4, but i was not done yet with testing as the big test was coming next. As i would not feel great if arabalsters end up hard countering cavalier. While for berbers the discount is too good, and the genitours can compliment cavalier weakness vs spears After i repeated the above test for an hour i ran and repeated a fast tested of all the 3 above mentionrd knight-lines and a few more vs 44 arbalesters " just a random realistic game number" The arbalesters did no micro but were fairly spread out to compensate, they were chinese so generic max tech. The test method is to add 1 paladin/ cavalier starting from 10 until the 44 arbalesters are defeated. The results are as follows Note: generic cavalier needs 5 hits to kill arbalester, malians 4, paladins 4. And ofc bulgarians attack fast so it helps. This is very important to explain rhe bulgarians/berbers result. Frank paladins: Minimum 12 to win the 44 arbalester "11 will almost always lose, 12 will always win, reason is simply their huge life pool means 1 paladin is just that big of a deal" Malians Minimum 16 to always win unless pathing with patrol command was misplaced. Bulgarians did the same as malians. Berbers 19 to always win, 18 lost most of the times. Remember this is because they need 5 hits to kill, malians, and bulgarians attack fast. But berbers have a good discount making 16 and 19 about the same in rss value. Which means berbers are the best heavy cavs civ as their cavalier is a better all rounder than frank paladins as their numbers will give them a goood result vs melee and ranged units, while covering more grounds too. And here is the surprise and i ran this over 50 times Poles: 22 cavaliers to 44 arbalesters about a third of the times lost and about a third won with 2 cavaliers remaining and the remaining time won with 3-5 reamining. So i had to bump them up to 23 to have consistant results. From the tests above here is the conclusion Poles im melee combat are the best, but vs pierce damage they are so bad to the point where they become hard countered by something heavy cavalery usually counters, which is archer line. And IT DID NOT even stop there. As a Final test vs skirms, 40 skirms were placed, note that all generic cavaliers regardless of civ kills a skirm in 3 hits. It took as little as 4-5 generic cavaliers to kill the 40 elite generic skirms, for poles, it took about 8. And here is the worst part, dravidian skirms became deadly for poles and imperial skirms became straight up soft counter as it took at least 12 poles cavaliers to beat 40 imperial skirms. Which might not be the worst in cost efficiency. But remember this so without focus fire. With focus fire, you need 35 imperial skirms to one shot pole cavalier, so i tested this out and consistantly won with 45 imperial skirms vs 18 pole cavalier. That makss imperial skirms and dravidians non-imperial skirms as a soft counter with focus fire " imagine dravidians imperial skirms too" And that would also put genitours as a hard cou their speed means they can focus fire easily and die much slower. All of that is enough to say this, poles cavaliers are like mongol hussars, but even worst when it comes to downside as they can't do what is expectdd of them. Poles cavalier have a small but considerable edge in melee combat vs cavs and infantry. But, in exchange for that they are countered by all archers, heavy countered by cavalery archers soft countersd by imperial and d4avidian skirms, hard countered by genitours, add to that spear-line, camels, elephant archers, maybe even throw in scorpions for all i know. Then add seracens, add, jeez, japanese champions and infantry and towers, castles, TCs, i mean honestly. Their knights are the gods of castle age, but their cavaliers are actually so bad i'd not put them anywhere near the top 6. Berbers are number 1 for the following reasons though. 1: even if i take malians 10% gold into account and berbers 20% discount and bulgarians speed. Berbers will still go about even with their additional numbers in all game tasks " except the castle example where malians are too far ahead" In other words, berbers advantage is how they have more of this strong unit in the field with no downsides like poles. I'd take 19 generic cavaliers over 16.5 bulgarians for the 9ne reason thst 19 cavaliers can cover more ground which makes me think berbers are #1 " also for genitours which can kill the spears that counter cavaliers.

@@youcanthandlethetruth5433it is 3 : 5 approx not 2 and the paladins will. You test it in editor and your 3 out of the 5 cavaliers will doe to castle fire and 2 will die to toen centers. To put the test result in mote detail. Town center does 5+3 at best which is 8 damage. Paladins take 1 out of that 8. Poles take 4. With the extra health taken into account you will kill 4 poles cavaliers as fast as you kill 1 single paladin. In fact, the best defense vs poles raids is town centers as that's how EASY it is for their cavaliers to die by TC. 10 arrows by a tc means in 3 rotstions a poles cavalier dies " roughly 6 seconds" while a paladin will take 18 seconds. In fact as i play malians a lot, malian town center can 2 shot them tendering their cavaliers completely useless. The problem is how they take more than double the damage. But only get less than 40% of the numbers "because food is a real resource"

I think you gave too much weight to the Teuton's armor. A good thing the knight line can do is bust up ranged units before they cause much damage, and can even go through gaps of pikemen lines to reach squishy crossbowmen and force mangonels to friendly fire on their troops. Their cavaliers don't do that too well, although I must give them some credit for having Paldins unlike some spots on the list (which should only take a minor consideration of best cavaliers since we are talking about best cavaliers not best knight line or best civilization for 1 vs 1, but it is a positive)

Polish cavalry's weakness to archers is a big drawback for me. Both their cavaliers and hussars get shredded by massed archers, which is a real shame for the hussar in particular given it should actually excel vs archers with its trample damage and extra attack. Polish hussars are like huskarls with the attack but without the high pierce armour imo. You need both for them to be really effective. I also don't like how the devs solution to Poles late game archer weakness was to just give them siege engineers and say "use onagers." Poles are not a siege civilisation and dragging onagers around slows down your otherwise mobile army
@teddyhaines6613 Жыл бұрын
When using any cavalry against archers (or the other way around) you need to think strategically and not just about taking one big fight. With cavalry you have mobility and can split your army up to raid multiple points on a map, while the archer player needs to keep their army in one place and can end up on the back foot if they need to react in several spots. And if your opponent isn't careful with their archers and you're able to pounce on them with enough cavalier numbers, they'll lose their entire army and there's nothing they can do about it. But if you find that you can't take a good fight against the enemy archers, you can escape with your cavalry to fight on better terms later - even if they have ballistics your units can dodge the shots with micro. These things are true for any cavalier civ, and Poles can more than make up for the lack of armor with superior numbers. The weakness to archers only exists if you fail to think about how cavalry should play against archers or underestimate just how much you can spam with the Poles' unique tech.

Sorry, am I missing something on the Romans vs Franks Cavalier? How are Franks winning that fight? Yes Franks do get +4 hp on each cavalier, but Romans are doing +5 damage every 20 seconds, and that 8vs8 fight definitely took longer than 20 seconds, so some of the cavalier would have used their charge attack twice even.
