Strange Places is a new documentary series by Aleksandar Petakov that follows his adventures and investigations into various unusual places around the world. Whether it be mysterious regions, abandoned locations or forgotten history, Aleks leaves no stone unturned in his search for strange places.
This episode features Aleks and crew exploring an abandoned coal mine rumored to be haunted by the souls of those who perished inside the mine long ago. Along the way they uncover the fascinating forgotten history of the Anthracite coal mining region of Northeast Pennsylvania, with the mine serving as a time capsule to this bygone era...

I always find STM vids/movies interesting and worthwhile. I look forward to watching one that's new to me every Sunday. This one, though, was more than interesting. This one was incredibly educational, and worthy of being shown in classrooms when talking about the mining industry in a middle school or high school social studies/history classroom. Massive kudos to the STM team and the team that took them into this mine.

Grew up just outside of Pittsburgh. Abandoned coal mines everywhere…and this was only 15 miles from downtown. I remember some of the older kids built a fort in one, until the parents found out and filled in the entrance by hand.

My daddy was a demolition man in the coal mines in Tennessee. He spoke of the bad luck for a woman to go into a mine. And told dtories of the TommyKnockers, spirits of dead miners who would make sounds @ move things to earn the working miners of a cave in... I'm 63 and he's been gone 40 yrs,but I'll never forget the stories or my daddy... 😢 watching this, daddy y told me before he would set the charge to blow he'd yell out,FIRE IN THE HOLE!! 3 X...memories... he used to take me to see the little mining mules, but would never let me get close enough to pet them. He did they were half crazy from work underground,it wasn't natural. And abuse....

This is the saddest thing I've ever heard about miner deaths. I've heard lots of stories but REALLY? 37,000 in just one area and it could have been 3 times that amount. And dumping bodies in front of children that had to have been heart breaking for the families, doesn't even seem like the owners cared. That's so messed up! But Aleks you did a wonderful job on this video Sir.

An excellent episode! One thing though, the 'Pasty Pie' box, you were pronouncing it wrong, it's derived from Cornish miners (not English!) pronounce it PAH-stee NOT Pay-stee. The Cornish miners were the most talented of all, they emigrated all over the world. In the US they went to Grass Valley, Mineral Point etc etc. The Tommy Knockers derive from Cornish knockers. I've written books about the legacy of Cornish miners. Once again...this was a great episode! Mark Anthony Wyatt (writer)

The movie silent hill was based off the town of centralia Pennsylvania , a mine that was miles long caught on fire and the town started to basically melt from the bottom up And there’s enough. Coal down there to keep that fire going for more than 100 years the fire is still burning under Centralia to this day it’s highly toxic fumes are deadly and scientists predict it will be another 60 years before all that coal is burned out that disaster caused many deaths in the long run from people breathing in toxic fumes Pennsylvania is a hotspot for paranormal activity There’s been deaths from the civil war up to now Pennsylvania is a giant graveyard

If you go to Michigan or Wisconsin you will see them for sale it is from what the old minors had for lunch, it is a crust (similar to pie crust), rutabaga or what ever vegs and meat with a little gravy in a tin so they could eat them in the mine. Escanaba Michigan and Madison Wisconsin had two of the best places for them years ago. Something like a pot pie.

If you consider it right, the poor men have worked for having received money to work on land that does not belong to the operator, but that he has appropriated and to work for it, which they could have eaten, which they could have grown on their own country if it had heard them and not the operator of the mines. So it is still the other country that they have acquired to let others work on it. Only today everything is smarter, so smart that people like to do it. LOL.

I'm from the birthplace of the industrial revolution in England, and it's highly amusing seeing a coal mine tour, because it's like watching about home! Where I live there's lots of old coal mines and many places in the woods where bell pits were dug, etc etc. I think the capture of that man doing a tour of the mine was really capture too. I really enjoy learning about life elsewhere and seeing the history and hearing about the tales.

@@AnthraciteHorrorStories thanks for replying. Just got to the fingers bit (the bacteria) learning a lot. I'm from the county where the first Ironbridge in the world was built. Still standing today! You can walk across it. It's a unesco world heritage site! Close by you have a place called blists hill which is a Victorian reenactment site. There used to be tar mines there too. I think some person got sick or something in recent times and the mine shut down (lol) but you could do a tour of it.

What a documentary! Watch everything and steadily about abandoned mine exploring but this one I really dive into it and feel the place, this deserve a LOT of like c’mon boy! Lile share subscribe! I really like his safety brass lamps! If i was a ghost, probably stick to the lamps instead of all the modernity, this lamp still saved a lot of miner and like he say, this is physics it can’t bug like electronics. About paranormal stories, It happen to me one time, in kind of copper-pyrite mine nears sherbrooke, quebec. Now sealed since a while for of course safety reason and toxic acid mine drainage (still leaking today), it was known to be hunted because soo much worker die in this mine, I have of course record mention death toll and detail about each accident, that truly creep me out, so anyway i alway stay at the portal and feel that cold breeze out of the tunnel and had a bad vibe came out of it like been observed by dozen of people in the darkness, i bring that day a brand new fully charged lamp, and he get drained and my backup too, camera also everything get drained, also feeling thing different, get tired and leave the mine asap, fortunately i have a mine partner I defenetely never made my way out alone. Heavily hunted. But at first certainly never get in alone, something push me out..! I work underground as miner before, isnt like those miner conditions way long time before! But still jacklegging and slushing gold ore, I ever wondered to be a coal miner in my own opinion just because of the real proudness! Those miner left all stuff and gears and never comeback, even after closure they spend enough time underground they will never get into it just to explore, like no surprise. Probably most of the old timer will have bad memories of those mine and knew the creepy vibes.

Speaking from a cave explorer opinion but still great job & respect to the miner's that passed

I love mules, but yeah, some can be real mean. My grandfather's family had one on their farm that kicked a pair of their horses to death for no reason. I have also seen horses that had that "killer" instinct. One in particular was named Widowmaker by its owner. I was warned once that when moving around it when it was on the highline, to watch if it gave you the side eye it was going to lash out with its rear hooves. Sure enough I saw it give me that side eye and I moved just it lashed out, just missing my leg with what would've been a bone shattering kick.
