My family and I just drove past John as he was cycling up a steep hill in Bakewell. In my delight at seeing him I shouted "feet on the ground" through the open window. My wife asked me what on earth I was doing. John just smiled and gave me a thumbs up. Haha, thanks John.

When I was 9 years old, I almost drowned in the sea. I was not aware that this was happening. All I was aware of was lovely incidents in my life flashing past, all the while feeling totally held and safe and fully aware with the same awareness present throughout my life. In the very, very far distance I heard someone screaming and screaming, but it touched me in no way. I came by on the beach after my uncle managed to pull me out. They told me it was me screaming. The reason for telling this is what John said at the start: what you truly are will not feel different at all. This is exactly how it was for me. The screams must have come from fear, but it was not the real me screaming. It was someone I have already left behind and there was only vague awareness of it. I never much thought about it again until I was in my 30s and started my spiritual search. That incident took away all fear of death.

This brings to mind a memory of my youth. I recall standing in my grandmother's kitchen helping her make lunch. I happened to mention my great grandmother, who had died ( aged 96 ) just several days before and I had said that I hated death....that it seemed to me that death was a cheat. My grandmother quickly replied that I shouldn't look upon death that way. And that as one becomes very old one's body betrays them. She said that death was a " sweet release " from the cares and pain of this temporary place. In this way we could return to what we really are. That was a long time ago, yet I remember it clearly. A " sweet release ", that's what she called it.

@@klh93 Hard for me to imagine that this was 50 years ago! I was a boy of only 9 yet my parents had explained to me what had happened to the extent that they felt appropriate for my age. I understood. Yes, my grandmother was a wonderful human soul, who, like John, didn't say a lot. When she did it was worth listening to. She herself lived to be 103. I was VERY close to her and although she's been gone now for almost 25 years I still think of her daily. She was a blessing from God.

@@ellisonhamilton3322 I've been listening to a lot of life after death things recently due to my grandmother passing a month ago, and I'm struggling to cope with the idea of us just being here and then seizing to exist in any way, shape or form. It almost seems pointless if that is the case. I do miss her terribly. Then I'm thinking I'll have to go through losing everyone else 😭. That is a ripe old age, she sounds like she was wonderful. @@klh93 My condolences on the loss of your grandmother. Yes, I've lost most my family now.....one by one and as a single man it's difficult at times struggling with the absence of those you love. Loneliness can sometimes set in. In time though you come to be grateful that you knew them at all. You never stop missing them, but by holding them close in thought and prayer they really aren't gone. If I may......physical death is not the end, of this I'm sure. We continue on in some form. What form or manner is the great mystery. So, we will both of us " see " our grandmothers again. Don't rush to this reunion, just trust that it will happen. Trust is the foundation of faith.
