Regarding the dump pouch: I wouldn't call myself an "experienced infantryman," but I am a Marine combat veteran with a CAR w/ Star (2x Iraq), and 2x private security contractor embedded with 3rd Group in Afghanistan. That out of the way, I always ran a dump pouch and always will. It's got great utility, doesn't weigh anything, and with new designs hardly takes up any real estate. Back in 2004, they were rather bulky, floppy with no rim support to drop mags into, and were hard to keep your mags put while running and doing combat shit. It was common to be picking up buddy's mags on the fly. Now, with modern designs, mags (and other stuff) goes in and stays in with minimum effort. People who claim you can just use pockets to store empty mags likely have never had to drop to prone while taking fire with their cargo pockets stuffed with magazines. Save the body - use a dump pouch.

Great Video, Ive been slowing buying and researching kit over the last 6 to 9 months, just because I like it - not service related. I thought I would look up how much this rig cost, and was astonished... All Spiritus branded kit, when what I seen in the video - not including the dump pouch. 34 Alpha Chest Rig LBV Expander Kit 2x SPUD Pouch 2x GP Tall Pouch 2x Nalgene Water Bottle Pouch $722.89
@onseki17749 ай бұрын
Honestly it's insane, that is about the same price as a complete harness'd Crye AVS. Spiritus adds up really quick. The one good thing is you can just spend $80-140 at a time as the pieces come in stock in the color you want. You can buy a complete alice rig for $100 though
@Uracil-hn5tx10 ай бұрын
It's interesting that you mention the rucking aspect because that's probably the biggest thing that put this rig on my radar, seemed like it would integrate more comfortably in that role or generally for more extended wear. Ultimately, I realized I'm too poor to own Spiritus equipment and went with an HSGI AO running the ever useful, "pouches I had lying around."
@GeorgeT500010 ай бұрын
IMO the butt pack rides too high for rucking. Any decently sized ruck is going to sit weird on your back.
@Uracil-hn5tx10 ай бұрын
I assume that's an add-on option. When I was looking, you can basically just kit it out as the two side panels joined in the middle with an H-harness and backstrap. The rig I'm using now is effectively that but with one non-split panel, plays well with my big 65 L ruck.@@GeorgeT5000

Recently bought one. Frequently have to go out on coyote patrol at night when packs run through the valley and especially when they use my stream to cross to the other side of the mountain. (We raise sheep for wool, plus we have cows and chickens.) Was taking along a 300BO rifle with 2 extra mags on my battle belt, which also has my P226 and 4 spare mags for that. Finally spotted a pack at night and realized I am not carrying enough ammo. 30+ coyotes running together in a pack, and we have at least 3 packs in the area. Time to build a recce rig with a bunch more ammo capacity. 🐏

I’ve been rucking with my velocity systems “jungle rig” and it is indeed different from pack rucking. I prefer it. My biggest advice is to check where the pouches are in relation to where your legs bend at the hip. I had mine too low the first time and it was very uncomfortable. This might sound totally un-American but I like the British style of LBE better where they use 2 large GP pouches in place of a butt pack. I’ve never been able to make a butt pack work well for me and honestly a big saw pouch over each cheek is easier for me to access than a butt pack with multiple buckles, compression straps, and draw strings. It works better for me when combined with a ruck too. The expandability of butt packs is awesome but they’ve only been a pain in my ass (pun intended). However, I love Spiritus systems, Adam knows what he’s doing, and I love that they’re developing gear with future conflicts in mind as opposed to being purely reactionary like everyone was during the GWOT.

Wearing LBE/LBV from mid 90s to early 2000s, we would have the pouches & belt pulled up higher than this SPIRITUS rig. We would then lower/adjust if needed for rucking/airborne ops. This rig seems to have the pouches set too low with now adjustment, and that butt pack is a “no go” when trying to throw on a ruck. Canteens as well, those DEFINITELY need to be placed on your sides, not at the back when rucking.

I'd argue you should load things into the pouches when you're wearing the rig. as you'll quickly figure out what is and isn't good placement of various items. The water bottles being on the back is a good idea but if you can't reach it on your own its dumb, practicality is king here.

I am more conventional army, and can see a use-case for an all-encompassing nested system of armor, smersh, pack armor w/placard = assaulting armor w/placard + smersh = assaulting, sustainment (land nav, hydration, weapons cleaning kit, more ammo, snivel gear / rain gear, marking) armor w/ placard + smersh + pack = all the above, shelter/clothes/water-purification Right now, I have a plate carrier and a chest rig that seem to be utilized for two completely separate use-cases, and I think there is a way to nest them to some degree.
