It is a game that shows that you cannot throw money at a problem and expect a good outcome all the time. "Triple A" is just how much money they used which used to go hand and hand with quality in the last 5 to 7 years it seems indie games have more to them and higher quality assets then in lower quality triple A games. In part as asset store now exist and are affordable for indie developers to buy from instead of having to build their own asset library from the ground up like most existing triple A developers did. So higher quality for less work meaning more time to put into everything else.

I’m still pissed that Dragon Age Inquisition retconned the Qunari to make them inclusive. I remember Sten in Dragon Age Origins telling Leliana she needs to go to the kitchen and almost starting a physical fight. It’s supposed to be dark fantasy, but the keep trying to make it more appealing for parents of 10 yr olds.

I played Origins and 2 a bunch each and gave inquisition a chance (it had some of the underlying issues present in Veilguard but the real killer was the slow grind without anything interesting breaking it up). I even played Journeys, the flash game released to hype up Origins. From what I've seen, I'm not even going to bother giving veilguard a chance. I appreciate the dev team deciding to put effort into optimization, since apparently its playable on good settings without having a very good PC which is become more and more rare these days, but smooth performance seems to be the biggest selling point. If you decide to give a DA game a shot, I'd recommend Origins. Its showing its age in some spots but generally speaking remains the spotlight of the series. There is an argument for DA2 being better, but that argument really leans on a massive preference for the gameplay of 2 over Origins and you can't really make it without having played both. Just keep in mind that the previous games were marketed as dark fantasy for a reason.

I can actually play both lighthearted rpgs and dark action rpgs. I can have fun in both. The problem here, is that Dragon Age isn't a stand alone game, it's a franchise with an established vibe which is only a few notches above the dark abyss of the Souls series in terms of bleakness. Something I expect from these games is that while you can get a happy ending, you have to try your butt off to do so and even then people are going to die, probably by the hundreds and for every step you manage to take forwards you're going to get _violently_ smacked back _at least_ one on occasion. I bought the thing to play a _Dragon Age_ game not a lighthearted DnD knock off. The new graphics are another thing in the same vein. I think they'd be fine in a new game that didn't have expectations, people obviously enjoy some cartoony graphics in their rpgs on occasion. However, Vielgaurd _isn't_ a new stand alone game, people already had an idea of what they wanted it to be, at least partly, and that was more Dragon Age. Whether you like it or not Dragon Age games have an established reputation for being gritty and somewhat color washed outside of magic which just puts more emphasis on the unnaturalness of the magic when it shows up being colorful and vibrant. That's what people expected and more importantly it's what most of us _wanted._

The companions were the game. You were literally the character no one really cared about, just a typical hero or main protag. The companions stories are why we played the games, that and the deeper RPG elements, cool yet clunky combat and hard choices that changed the flow of the game drastically. Veilguard is just propaganda for a mental disorder (which it is, look it up, Gender Dysphoria and/or BDD is considered a mental disorder/illness), and also abuses those that have said illness by using them as a shield against the changes they made for the worse. Essentially, they took an IP and ruined it because they wanted to appeal to people that don't exist by ruining a game. LIke, why is the Director of the SIMS games even touching this game? The people who made the past games are all gone, just move on to a different company and forget Bioware even existed.

Thing about games being dark vs goofy, I really miss when try-hard edgelord dark games was the industry standard. I am so fucking sick of meta-humor, fourth wall breaks, and "Don't worry, we don't take ourselves too seriously and to prove it we're going to undermine every single dramatic moment with some asshat making a smartass comment to suck all the emotion and power out of a given scene." If a game at least takes itself seriously, regardless of how stupid it is, I can at least pretend to while I'm playing it. That's what makes Saints Row 2's writing the peak of that series over 3 and 4. As insane as the story and set pieces were, the characters in that world took it all deadly serious, so I could to. 3 and 4 turned the Boss into a wisecracking idiot that couldn't take anything seriously, and thus neither could I.

Un mass effect 2 your companions only get three skills an a passive, and the third skill was locked behind their loyalty mission, also of you pull up the strategic overlay you will see that your squad mates have 5 slots each
