You are right. Even if you only look at what the customers want and see Disney taking it away and serving them a political agenda instead it can only end poorly for both parties. They are censoring and canceling Wokeback Mountain and Song of the South because the story took place during a period slavery existed. But they are retheming it and canceling much loved Frontierland as New Orleans, but New Orleans as a port city was a major slave trading hub, and even though 1/3 of the slaves there were owned by other blacks, New Orleans itself was built by black slaves. How problematic is that? Song of the South was a celebration of a distinctly black American fairy tale and Uncle Remus was a much loved character. Wokeness turns everything to SHIP.

For me personally Splash Mountain was the official start to my trips to WDW. Even if it was the last ride of the first day, passing through the riverboat, and the characters endings just made the vacation real and set the tone to come. @@redtiger7268 That is very cool information thanks. And what is the ride time of Small World? It too has to be one of the longest. Or does it just feel so long because of all the irritating singing dolls? It would be nice to see more epic long rides at Disney World. At Epcot the Lands boat ride is nice and long as well. BTW you probably know this already but the Pirates of the Caribbean ride was supposed to be a walk through exhibit which is why it is so long. When construction of Pirates of the Caribbean was already underway in California, the huge success of the Small World ride at the world's fair in New York and its massive hourly ride capacity caught the eye of Walt. Construction was halted on 'Pirates" and the floor was jackhammered out to make it all a water ride instead and the rest is history. Otherwise it might never have been nearly so long.

Are there even any real Imagineers left at Disney? The hotels are being stripped of all personality with each makeover, and I’ve been underwhelmed with so many of the newer attractions. Once I accepted that Splash was closing, I got a little excited about Princess & the Frog. While the mountain is an issue, I figured imagineers could fix that somehow by tricking the eyes with creative work. The movie characters, story, & soundtrack could’ve been amazing! When they announced the whole salt mine thing it was like hearing a needle scratch across an old vinyl record. Unbelievable and clueless. I keep wondering WHEN will the shareholders finally revolt? This company seems determined to do the exact opposite of what will make them money.

The magic of Disney had died years ago. Splash Mountain was one of the last iconic rides to be created. In spite of Walt having passed over 20 years prior, he was responsible with the building of the creative core of the imagineers. With Baxter and Rohde leading strong rides in the post Disney era, even their influence is fading. How much is budgeted on this remodeling project? What is the expected ROI on this venture? What have been the the last successful additions to these parks? In regards to Disneyland, there was galaxy edge and prior to that were the New Tomorrowland and Indiana Jones and Splash Mountain back in 1989 ... and some of those additionas have not have been as strong as others. With the closer of Splash Mountain, Disney has continued to diminish the brand and the legacy. The Disney name has been tarnished by the corporate greed.

They cancelled and censored both the movie "Song of the South" and the ride because as a distinctly black American fairytale passed down verbally by black families in the south, it took place when there was slavery. But the fairytale itself has zero to do with slavery. The irony is they are replacing it with the story of Frog and the Princess which took place in New Orleans which was a major slave trading hub in the south. In fact 1/3 of the slaves in New Orleans were owned by other blacks. They are also canceling problematic FRONTIERLAND because it represents European colonization and turning it into New Orleans. But New Orleans was built by Slaves!!! And as a port city it was a major slave trading hub. So bizarre and stupid. But when all is said and down I think the ride and the new land will be beautiful. The disney artists are amazingly talented but the destruction and censorship of traditional American culture is underway. Lets all hope Disney gets out of the woke business before its too late. They are out of money and facing bankruptcy because of woke but I take no pleasure in seeing them crash and burn. There are many great people in the company who are not woke with an agenda.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure does seem to be the worst possible execution of one of the worst possible concepts for a new attraction. And, as far as I’m concerned, that’s exactly the kind of attraction Bob Iger, Carmen Smith and their goons deserve for what they have done. After insinuating that the various legacies connected to Splash Mountain were too “problematic” for preservation and then proceeding to destroy the U.S. versions of the attraction with unbridled glee, they will never receive the benefit of the doubt from me.

Splash Mountain has always been my favorite ride as Disneyland. However, the Princess and the Frog is one of my favorite Disney movies so I was cautiously optimistic. Two things have made my confidence in this redesign plummet. 1:). The original concept art for the outside redesign looked AMAZING. With mama odie’s boat stuck in the branches of the tree at the very top. The updated model they have since showed has lost all of the beautiful elements. It could not look more bland and lazily themed. 2:) Not including the original music. Or all the character.

As with movies, the consequences of current decisions are felt in the next interval. It takes a year to properly plan and prep a wdw trip. Between that and the economic meta, it takes 1-2 years to see the impact. Shrinkflation of portions and inflation of prices.. half the things my friends who go talk about now isnt even the rides or parks its the merch or a food item like watermelon dole whip tacos. Theyre becoming the meme of consume product then get excited for next product. And the wheels will come lff before they can implement anything to really compete or compensate for things like epic universe, assuming they had the money. Im looning forward to the next earnings calls when they have to admit park attendance that all other failures get paid for from is down (or the inevitable spin of continued lying to investors)

I know what happened after the end of Princess and the Frog. Tiana has the coolest restaurant where she has to wait tables because staff and waiters did not show up so she ends up working like she was at the beginning of PatF but on a larger scale so she sleeps less every day. Naveen never worked a day in his life, being married was not going to change that, so he spends lazy days on a raft in the bayou playing his instrument. What a marvelous story to relive in a flume ride. It will be so empowering for Tiana and a great model for little girls to provide for their lazy husbands because they can do everything better.

Disney parks thrive primarily because of nostalgia. If they continue to destroy that nostalgia, they will continue to alienate their longtime fanbase. The younger generation doesn’t have nostalgia for Disney unless their parents pass it along to them. When that stops happening the Disney parks will be just another set of theme parks, nothing special. At that point Universal is on the same playing field in the minds of the general public. Without nostalgia, Disney is lacking.
@TerryKitts

Exactly! You get it. You return because you want to re-experience the magic. But the magic is lacking. It's no fun being glued to your cell phone all day. EPCOT, I mean Wall-Cot, is still a thing. They destroyed Journey Into Imagination. Now, Splash Mountain. Nostalgia is wearing thin, and like a restaurant, if you didn't enjoy your last visit, you will not want to revisit it anytime soon. I haven't been to WDW since January 2020. The nostalgia has worn off for me. I do miss the melon shaved ice at EPCOT's Japan pavilion. It was so good.

@@TerryKitts The reason I get it is that I was a lifelong WDW fanatic up until the last few years. My first visit was in 1981 and I visited annually throughout most of the 80s, 90s, 00s, and 10s. I was the type of fan that Disney should care a lot about, but they’ve abandoned us. The magic has declined or altogether disappeared for many of us longtime fans. There are those who don’t understand that Disney is not just about the rides. Heck, you could argue that Universal has surpassed them in the ride department in some ways. It’s about the whole experience, and if key parts of that experience continue to be removed, what is the point in returning? It’s about more than just the removal of one or two classic attractions, though that is also an issue. It’s mostly about the overall change in direction of the company. It doesn’t FEEL as much like Disney anymore.

I never understood the comparisons to Song of the South. Yes, it uses characters and songs from the movie, but that's it. 1: Those characters were barely even in the movie to begin with. 2: Most of the characters on the ride aren't even from the movie, they're from America Sings. 3: The ride removes all mentions and references of humans existing in the same universe. It's based more heavily on the traditional Br'er Rabbit folk tales rather than the plot of the movie, which has absolutely nothing to do with the plot of the ride.

I don't like water rides in general, but I did like Splash Mountain. It was fun. It made me smile. What kind of sick, sick person could possibly hate Splash Mountain? The answer: Bob Iger (and most of Portland, OR). Re-themed to Princess and the Frog? Prince Whatshisname was forgettable, and Tiana was boring. The only great character was the villain, Dr Facillier. But I heard that Dr Facillier will NOT be included in the Splash Mountain update. I guess the DEI screeners told Iger that we cannot allow black villains - they have to be heros. Epic fail - the end of Splash Mountain would have been perfect for the scene where Dr Facillier is being dragged to his doom by his "friends".

Be disappointed... be very disappointed. I heard that there is no Dr Facillier on the re-imagined Tiana's Bayou Adventure. He was the best character. The final lift hill at the end of Splash Mountain would be perfect for Dr Facillier to be dragged to his doom by his "friends on the other side". Mama Odie would then save the guests from the same fate by dropping the ride vehicle down the final slide at the last moment, safely into the bayou, ending the ride. However, the DEI crowd won't allow a black man to be the villain. So expect a feel-good ending instead. I'm so sorry for you.
