Love the takeaways Sam! I've been procrastinating so hard, partially due to sickness at the house but also laziness and doubt. A lot of Casey's advice you've highlighted here relates closely to the concepts in Seth Godin's "The Dip" and Steven Pressfield's "The War of Art"-that true artists persevere for the sake of sharing their work.

Very thorough review Sam! And totally agree on your main takeaway. I was so surprised that even Casey has to deal with the same things. Though I must admit I've ran into the brick wall at least four times in the second assignment. And indeed after pushing through it came out better than I thought when I looked at the shots I had to work with. Keep it up. I'm looking forward to your second review. To respond to your question. Well worth the time and money!

Hey! Thank you! 🙏🏻 Yeh I’ve been watching them again for inspiration. It makes so much sense what he says and he makes it seem so easy but then when I come to do it… it’s dreadful 😂 I think I need to be more present and slow down in order to get better quality. I took the course too and found it helpful. I think for the price it's worth it - lots of nuggets of information in those videos. I fell behind in the second half and have yet to submit my second film (EEEK) - it seems like the second video is more involved, but there are fewer days to get it done. At least we have lifetime access to the information.

@@SamHolland At some point successful KZbinrs discover the story is more about THEM and their own heroes journey and secondarily about the story they thought they were telling. It takes time to look square at the camera lens, be intimate and vulnerable, and share your deep emotional feelings. So while the framework begins with the Hook/Setup leading to the Conflict and wrapping with the Resolution, even if your planned story really sucks, it’s easy-peezy to re-orient the story about your misgivings and lessons learned - your audience is most interested to learn about the authentic you. Sam, your role playing skits with you portraying both the protagonist and antagonist is yet another excellent way to embody this concept.

Thanks Sam, I holiday vlog. I have been told I am pretty good at it. I try take people on a journey. Currently in Iceland for 10 days. I try not to woffle, quick talking bits. Lots of B roll with music, I love using a drone as it can really show off where you are. Flying over diamond beach today.. Under bridges and up water falls. I give quick updates etc. So not sure the course is for me.. I would not have time to do the course work, I think like you said. I wanted more from him.. I was going to ask you Sam, could you watch the last two of my video's (flick through them) tell me what you think? The subjects in question won't interest you! Bit of a solar & battery channel. But I have had to learn very quickly about movie making and lighting and you tube algorithms. Much appreciated and keep the video's coming. I rely on people like you to help me make videos look better in a small studio setting. Thank you.

I’m almost done with the course, and it was so worth it for *me.* it was not what I *expected*, but I learned so much from watching the videos. Doing the first project was soooooo hard for me, and I was so tempted to just ignore the assignment and make a video the way I already know. But that’s pointless, so I grabbed my phone and did it. But to be honest, it was such an intense experience that I was not ready to do the second project. I needed a couple weeks off just to really process the things he does automatically. So… even though I didn’t do my second assignment, it was still worth it. 🤗 I also had a really supportive peer group, and that was awesome. I am hearing that this is in no way guaranteed. Maybe I got lucky… (Also: I very much agree with what you found valuable about the videos, especially the mindset. I did not get what I expected, but I got what I most needed. But he does not hand a recipe to you on a platter… you have to Do The Thing. 💁♀️)

I've made a couple of comments on other KZbinrs. I think Casey is good at vlogging. he was in the game at the start, which helped him create his brand. Some of us filmmakers wouldn't call him a filmmaker. He makes youtube videos. anyone can do what he does...they just have to have a presence with some to watch that is entertaining. Although, it would be hard to get to that level with all that's out there. I feel it not to buy into his program. there are other KZbinrs that share the same for free. Also, be aware of others doing 'reviews." it's basically an amazon review.

You do realize that your takeaway from his course isn't a film making but motivational bs. If Schwarzenegger will teach you Bodybuilding it doesn't help you to become Schwarzenegger or win the "Mr. Universe" title. Successful people are not successful because they know something you don't, there are a lot of unknown unreplicable/unique variables as luck, timing etc. With other words he has no idea why he became successful. Unfortunately there is nothing you can replicate to became as successful as he is. A course on probability and statistic is what all people need to stop waste their money on bs. In a few weeks you will be exactly where your were before the course. You're willing to increase your chances, the luck is hidden in numbers, the more you do the more you increase your chances. (That's all you need to know and it's free)
@SamHolland2 жыл бұрын
Value doesn’t have to be technical information. It comes in all forms and that’s for the individual to decide. Everyone is in a different stage in their journey and we all need different things. I’m new to this so just knowing how he does things is extremely helpful to ME and probably a lot of others. Not everybody, as I said in the video. Information like this motivational stuff is what has made me push for more in my life and I’m very happy for all of those lessons. Thank you for watching and for your opinion 🤩🙏🏻🎥
