Splashtown. Its most recent name was "Splashtown USA". The park opened in 1985 as Water Park USA. I was in the area and decided to explore the area before it was fully demolished. When I went there, they had already started the process.

I actually worked as a supervisor at the park this past summer. My mom was the GM , so I knew splashtown as my second home all throughout my childhood . All the destruction you see was done by my coworkers and I. We were apart of maintenance and aquatics and were able to work and help with the whole closing process. It was heart breaking having to strip everything valuable and take apart slides. A lot of blood, sweat and tears held that park together that not a lot of people saw. I’m going to remember all those long hot summers that I wanted to end so badly. But I’m also going to remember all the fun times, amazing memories ,friends and lessons I learned while growing up there. I’m glad I was able to be with it until the very end. San Antonio’s favorite family water park , y’all have a splashtastic day

People were just there this summer of 2021! It's one of the more affordable waterparks for people on that side of town. Unfortunately, San Antonio city council approved a zone change. They have plans to make it a car dealership. It wasn't truly "abandoned" just closed. They are moving quick to demolish it by the looks of it. Wow

It makes me sick that the city didn't save our Splashtown. Now we get another POS car lot. I can guarantee I won't buy a car from the selfish, greedy owner that decided to tear down the one place in the San Antonio area that ANYONE could afford. Thanks for stealing that from us. A lot of us in SA can't afford to take our family to Six Flags or SeaWorld so Splashtown was always possible because of their affordable prices. Looks like our city council was more worried about filling their greedy pockets than protecting the livelihood of even its POOR tax payers.

im sure the dealership paid for the zoning change, or has friends in city council. car lots are unattractive and no fun. so it is a shame. WE should vote out city council that was a part of this.

I worked as a lifeguard here in my younger years for 2 summers. It was such a blast. It was always packed. I'll never forget we use to have lifeguard parties there at night after the park was closed and we would all go riding down the rides in big long trains of people with music blasting and everyone drinking. Even the management was cool. It's sad to see such a fun affordable place with so much potential to become even bigger and more cool be neglected and given up on. Great memories.

Who here grow up in SA back in the 80's and 90's? The reason I ask this is because at that time Splashtown had so much more dangerous stuff back then. So take the crystal falls expansion area for example. That used to be a 10ft jump off into a 10ft deep pool but it was so dangerous that they had to take it out and make it a kiddie pool. The headrush actually used to be a sled-based slide called the Rampage. The wavepool used to be 10ft deep at the end by the wave machines back in the 1990's and the wave machines used to come above the water line too not below it. I remember when they used to play movies at the wave pool late at night as well. When I was a single digit aged kid I found so much money there. This was where I made money finding loose change or bills stuck on the drains at the bottom of the pools especially the wavepool and lazy river drains. But back in the 1990's $1, $10 or getting real lucky and finding a $100 went a long way back then. Now $100 is nothing. lol It's so crazy to this place closed down and I really wish for my own memory lane's sake I wish I could of been there with you as you explored Splashtown all abandoned like that. Great video man!

I'm an 80's reject myself, lol I guess my memory isn't as great in my old age cuz, I'd forgotten about some of those things u mentioned but I DO remember the wave machine being above the water ( I don't even remember that being changed) I remember it well cuz, I remember swimming too close to it and, seeing that huge thing move back to make a wave and, of course the suction pulled me so that I (of course) could not swim against it and damned near drowned. Luckily the lifeguard saw and saved my stupid self from the water. The park was actually closed at the time, they just turned the wave pool on for a few of us who were still lingering about the park, the employees weren't really strict about tossing people out at closing time. They actually let us hang out for quite awhile. I remember it well cuz, it was actually dark out already when I came so close to being a Splashtown casualty 😛

We have enough car lots here in San Antonio and abandoned ones at that but yet they want to build another one. Makes no sense to me they rather take something out that brings family's together for a car lot as if there's not abandoned ones on the Southside, brand new buildings but they were never finished why couldn't they move there?????

I had no idea that place had gone under. I got so much chlorine water up my nose there, and those lily pads will always hold a place in my heart. Damn, dude, I wanted to take my nephew there after he learned how to swim. All lost for a fucking car dealership. Our city is much more poor with its demolition. Last of the fair priced parks!!! Gone!!! For a Cavender Cadillac car lot. Of course they said on the news it will bring lots of jobs. But, I would bet less then this provided. An well a far more expensive product. 😥 So sad Even Schlitterbahn has gone crazy fast pass charge major park pricing. Charging for different levels of membership. An cutting the lines for the entitled. Sadly if you google why did splashtown close. It also gets mixed up with Houston Sixflags splashtown. An says its permanently closed due to a chemical leak that injured 100 people. A sad end to a great park. It will be missed. We loved this park. I'm just glad my little ones got to see it before it closed.

@@7kimmy22 apologies, I wasn't meaning to be rude, I just realized it could have came across as that right now. Yeah the mall was running on its last legs and the Castle had seen much more guests decades prior, but for a kid growing up on I-10 and Hildebrand it was what we had when it came to going out and having fun, and it was still a hell of a lot of fun for the years I remembered it as a kid going with my father (2007-2014). I was heartbroken when it closed for good, I think I was about 12, and looking back I really wish it could have stayed for many more years and generations. I'm 19 now and I realize that good things never last forever, however if I could I would pay anything to get the opportunity to go back there and play the mini golf course or ride those crappy go karts or throw away $20 bucks at the arcade, just to have some good old-fashioned fun one last time.

So my mom has dealt with many injury cases over the years involving Splashtown. The later years produced some brutal accidents including a shard of fiberglass I believe from the white water slides shown about 4 minutes in going straight into a kids arm. Another brutal accident involving a kid involved my favorite ride with the matts. The kid sliding down never stopped due to low water levels and hit her face needing extensive surgery to fix teeth and stuff. I hate to say it, but the fond memories can be kept at this point. It became such a death trap entangled in lawsuits. Let's all just remember it through the Selena movie clip there and the classic deal they had where you bring big red and get money off your ticket

Damn shame the owner sold out. Doubt cavender will get any business for taking away our beloved Splash Town.

Billy Cavender of Cavender Cadillac going to sit on the land and speculate just like Red McCombs and Ernesto Ancira. Never buying a new car again, and never a used car from these ripoff artists and a blight on highway scenery for cars and real estate. Hey Ernesto, did April get through that DWI ok? Hey Red, your ranch/hunting game manager still in charge of what to do with the SA Zoo's old no fun animals anymore? Shame on SA.

I wonder if these old slides will wind up at the Tijuana Mexico waterpark. I think Albercas El Vergel gets it slides from closed down US parks.

Nothings says fun like recording yourself tresspassing. 🤣 I would totally do it to. I drive by Splashtown multiple times a week. I remember as a kid over 25 years ago nearly deowning in the wave pool with my little brother trying to save him as the life guards didn't give a $**t. I also recall hitting my head suoer hard on one of the tube shoots. Starflight was always my favorite. I would wait till a heavy rain then go back and slide on an inflated motorcycle tire. 😁

Had my class' "Senior Day" there back in 2002. Also, remember always seeing those Splashtown commercials on TV in SA. Sad to know that's it's going away.

I had been away for around 5 years and i was so sad to learn this place had closed 😢. So many great memories of this place. I still remember the excited feeling and can still hear the cheers when the buzzer, signaling that the waves were fixing to start, would sound off. Also the lazy river was the best way to get around the park.

Thanks for sharing. Like you said ‘a beautiful mess’. A shame they couldn’t save it since it gets so hot in S Texas. I drove by there about a year ago. It would be nice to get one of those tubes to take down the Guadalupe river!

One of my favorite things about Splashtown was the ability to hit just about every ride in the park without drying off in between because the lines were never very long.
