One of the weapons I picked up in this game, a weird hybrid of a Dynamo and a Range Blaster. Explosher is so much fun its such a shame the kits it has suck. I really hope it gets some justice in Splatoon 3. Also as a super mario sunshine fan, I LOVE the connected world so much.

Chugga, i think that the control stick animation isn’t actually animated, but just the finger tip on the rig is parented to the stick. Not hand animated, but still very impressive looking thanks to the quality rig and camera angle.

I totally understand where you come from with the magic tricks. I always felt the same, until my dad convinced me to watch a show called "Magic's Biggest Secrets Finally Revealed" with him. That changed everything, and the magic still filled me with child-like wonder, but not because I didn't understand that it was a trick or because I couldn't figure it out. I ended up liking magic even more because I know the tricks now, but just because my brain knows doesn't mean my eyes see it. Every time I see a magic trick now my mind immediately thinks of how good the person doing the tricks is, because someone who knows how they're done can't even see them doing those small tricks.

The latter half of this video makes me hope that Splatoon 3 has individual map selection in the sale of Mario Kart 8. That would mean the base game needs a healthy number of maps at launch instead of a drip feed over the course of months, but I can dream.

The thing is, I kinda understand map rotation up to a point, like: If your least favorite map is up in one mode, well, you can kill an hour in another. However, I genuinely think it should either be more maps per mode, or, there should be a check that says "okay, they've played X amount of matches or X amount of time on this map, they have to get the other one, even if that means changing the room they're in." Just because even as a casual player, it can be frustrating to not be able to play two maps before i have to, say, cook dinner or go to bed.

Magic eye puzzles, I actually recently learned the trick to them. Everyone always just said to just stare at it until I got it, but there's more to it then that. You know how when you cross your eyes, everything not in focus seems doubled? Like when you're looking at your phone and you see your reflection; focus on the reflection and the phone unfocuses and looks doubled, focus on the phone screen and the reflection doubles. Basically, the trick is to cross your eyes, focused closer to where you are. Put a finger between you and the image, then focus on your finger. Then, once you're ready, quickly remove your finger, and your eyes will readjust. The doubles created by being unfocused will overlap to a point where, even though you're not focused on the image, there is something to focus on.

I think learning how to do magic yourself can give you a new appreciation for them. I never really saw much in the From Software games (Elden Ring, Dark Souls, etc.) until I played Yakuza, when I learned how to watch for the combos and get a rhythm for the combat style of those sorts of games. I never saw much in those kinds of games until I played something similar and got an eye for it. It may not be as elusive or mystical, but it can easily be even more fascinating when you can understand it.
@unknown_limes
@unknown_limes 2 жыл бұрын
I think the problem is that's another form of appreciation, "more adult-ish" if you will. It's like Emile says, the wonder of it disappears into "oh that's how that's done" and you're better able to appreciate the hard work, but watching others do it suddenly becomes like "well this isn't feeling like it always has" and that can ruin the entertainment value for some folk

I think it would be cool if the more you got repeat maps, the more it stacked the map rotation odds in your favour for you to get another map. So when you first queue, it could be a straight 50/50 shot. After that it goes to 40/60, with the 60 being the map you haven't played yet, then 30/70, then 20/80, then 10/90, until you roll the second map, then it resets back to 50/50. Getting repeats would still be possible but reasonably unlikely after the 2nd or 3rd map. You could even have a pity system after the 4th or 5th rotation that guaranteed the other map.

@@EmileeAria413 people newly joined to the lobby would have the 50/50 base chance so they'd basically be a +/-0 while everyone already in the lobby would have similar odds as they play matches together. In the case that there is conflicts, like the person with the most games has a 7/2 split while the newest member has a 1/2 split, then you simply find the average between all players. (I don't think the distinction of mean vs mode really matters here but I want to remind people there is a difference and I am aware of it)

Chugga's gripes with the random maps makes me think the best way of doing it would have been a system that makes it more likely to play the other map each time you get a repeat. So the first time you play it's a pure 50/50 The second time it becomes a 60/40, in favour of the map you haven't played Then 70/30, 80/20, 90/10 and finally 99/1 Then when you eventually get the second map the odds reset back to 50/50 and it starts over again. Something like this would make it more likely to switch, while still keeping the random element that Nintendo likely wants to keep, so the game has a more casual feel and so you can't just pick maps you like
@Aidea._.

When I couldn't get that to work, I later learned that I was actually stereo-blind, in that my eyes don't fully work together. (Technically, I'm stereo-impaired as I could still see some of the 3D effects, but not all of them.) Next time you're getting your eyes checked, ask your optometrist if you are stereo-blind or not. Not much you can do about it as an adult, but it's still useful to know.

When do we get single player Clam Blitz? (God, that just sounds awful on paper). I do love interconected worlds. That just make everything seem so much more real, like these are actual places and not just levels in a void. Mario Kart 8 does this as well, and it gives that game so much personality knowing everything in it fits together like a puzzle. It's really satisfying as well once you know all of the connections. It is slightly dissapointing though that the interconnected world was not given as much thought as the one is Splatoon 1. Either that, or there are some super hidden connections no one has found yet. About the Shellendorf one - I don't those icons aren't for songs. Instead, those seem to be those audio tour icons you see in most museums nowadays. That's a really neat little detail. It really is a slosher that explodes. That name is a bit on the nose, don't you think? OH BOY, MORE CLAM BLITZ. For a mode Emile doesn't particualrly like, he sure seems to play it a lot. Granted, it's not something he has control over. It's just whatever is available when he goes to record. Which is often Clam Blitz. "Worse odds than Fire Emblem." That's when you know it's bad.

One of my favorite weapons of all times! Sometimes, you want a gun. Sometimes, you want an *artillery.* That's what this can be. Try playing this one on splat zones, hiding behind a wall, and abusing the arced shots to launch explosive cover fire all over the zone, keeping the enemies out and the zone painted your color at the same time, all while staying well out of harms way! Slap on some ink saver main and ink recovery up and you'll be racking up assists in no time!

in all honesty, the magic thing is very relatable, with my perspective is trading a child's sense of wonder for an adults: A Child will see there in amazement never knowing the tricks and techniques that go into the act, whereas the more mature side will know how it's done, but has the ability to see and appreciate all the effort that goes into it. The wondrous thing about magic, and the main reason i also watch Penn and Teller (they have an entire show dedicated to magicians testing their mettle on trying to fool them), is that no matter how far behind the curtain you think you've looked, theres always going to be someone that can make you feel like that child again. Also, the word you are probably looking for in the opener is stimulating or very satisfying. The near or possibly exactly 1 to 1 mimicking of the Octoling's thumb matching your real life motion, mixed with the pleasing auditory ticks from moving over every node is very pleasing to the brain and senses

Credit to GG Gabriel Gaming for this summary of the Explosher: When a slosher and a charger love each other veeery much… I love how Splatoon is such a lore-filled universe with little details that connect the world together and little stories and sub-plots that are practically invisible to the naked eye. It really sets Splatoon apart from other online shooters and gives it a unique identity. Edit: I almost forgot! The details extend to the weapons too! Such as how the Explosher is so hot that the area around the nozzle(?) appears warped when you look at it in 3D.

Pro tip for explosher: Jump as you take each shot It costs very little, since the start and end lag are the same length as a jump, And also increases the likelihood of landing a 90 damage hit, due to it causing the projectile to land at a steeper angle, which significantly increases the likelihood of the splash damage hitting after penetrating a given player

I got through checkpoint A But not through checkpoint B That's when I got shot in the ass By the Octo Military Also maybe it was the Salmonids who destroyed the rig. Splatoon lore shows their rushes to be particularly devastating, and that these rushes had a history of wiping out entire cities before ranged weaponry was made. Perhaps there was a failed attempt to defend the rig from those vicious fishes, and its destruction was the result.

Heyyy Wack 8-Ball Station! This was the station that really cemented my love for Octo Expansion! I wasn’t quite sure at first how I felt about it at first, how it was just a bunch of harder singleplayer levels, without collectibles so they felt shorter and empty. The levels kind of just seemed like getting past one challenge, dying many times on the way, to slowly progress through a story of some characters I didn’t care much about. However, the two things I love are patiently overpreparing, and the inkbrush! This was the first station I really felt like I had fun on. I could go at my own pace and use my favorite weapon. I got to watch the 8 ball do pretty stunts and admired the background, showing off the special charm that Octo Expansion has. This station also started my over-attachment to my octoling, which only grew as I progressed further through the game, lol.

Gotta love how the Splatoon series has so much attention and care put into its worldbuilding, that its lore might be deeper than the Mariana Trench once the 3rd entry launches Also, while you have my condolences in regards to your RNG-cursed map selection woes Chugga, please don't tire yourself out by playing for longer than you'd prefer just to show off the other map in a rotation
@MSCDonkeyKong
@MSCDonkeyKong 2 жыл бұрын
rotations only last for two hours, making that the maximum amount of time spent here ...assuming its the maximum it'd be a very stressful two hours, as well. and it probably gets way worse if he tries to record multiple times in one day, especially if singleplayer is done at the same time. combined with editing... edit: actually, fuck it. lets calculate! so, every match has a 5 minute limit in this mode and he showed the intro screen 6 times assuming that every match uses that full 5 minutes (its clam blitz which makes this incredibly reasonable), and that he really showed every intro screen, that makes it 6 * 5. which is 30 minutes of in game time if we count the matchmaking screen then that means his claim of 40 minutes was actually timed. he doesnt even have squid jump to help, unlike splat 1. just messing around with the music effects for a few minutes it must feel TERRIBLE during a recording session if you want to get more octo expansion or video editing done that day, holy crap and i really dont blame him for going so far with it, when its not only his job but also this LP had already been put off long enough to start AFTER a sequel announcement. i at least hope he can enjoy himself during this

I get why map rotation is a thing because if that was not the case, most people would just pick handful of stages and modes everytime but it also doesn't seem right to let the developer take control of those choices. The fact that chuggaa spends hours of what should be a 10 mins recording is proof of that.

Another great location for explosher is on Blackbelly Skatepark. The zones are so small that one or two shots can entirely take the zone. Plus, there's an alley off to the right of spawn with a wall between you and the zone, much like Camp. The tower in the middle allows you to attack almost anywhere the zone can be contested from.

Hang on, we talked about stage secrets and didn't talk about the Great Zapfish Lord of the Lake or No.9 in Piranha Pit?! I hope that's in the pipeline for later on, 'cause that's one of my favourite more unknown lore pieces. Hell, Rassicas' made a vid about them and helped here when talking about the stages, so I'd imagine it's something that can be talked about in the series. Also, we somehow didn't see the over powered Octo Expansion Splat Walls on the tower mission. We saw 'em in the rainmaker mission but didn't really see how powerful they were due to the rainmaker. But yeah, Octo Expansion Splat Walls are so jacked it's almost funny.

I am convinced that the map chances are not 50/50 odds, if they are even random at all. In both Splatoon 1 and 2, no matter the day, I've almost always had one map that I get way more than the other one. I'm not talking "Oh, I saw Kelp Dome 4 times and Walleye Warehouse 3 times", its almost consistently "I am so done with Anchovy Games I've gotten it ten times today and the other map once."

The trick with magic eye things is you have to unfocus your eyes. If you have one that you can pick up and move around, hold it near your eyes, then shift your focus like you're looking behind it at something in the distance. Hold your eyes like that and move the magic eye in and out until the pattern appears to be in focus without you directly focusing on it, then just carefully move your eyes around and look for parts of the pattern that seem to break/cut/distort. Once you find that, the image should start to jump out as a 3D effect. If you lose your focus and go back to normally looking at it, just repeat the step to get there, or you might be able to jump right into that unfocused focus if you can feel it well. Hope this helps for anyone who wanted to know how to view a magic eye Another tip is that some patterns may be self-similar enough that you get that unfocused focus at the wrong depth. If you can't find the 3D image, or if you found it and it looks like an indeterminate mess, try adjusting your eyes to catch focus differently, like you're looking at something closer or further than the behind-point you were looking at before

This was an interesting episode. I've never used an Explosher outside of Salmon Run, and it's always been a really strange, unwieldy weapon to me, doing one thing really, really well, but nothing else. I've always been kinda interested in it tho, just cuz I really like weapons with high learning curves. So, yeah, I liked learning more about Exploshers and what makes them good! I can finally see them as cool weapons in their own right, rather than my previous thoughts, which were just "it kills Flyfish" Also, I see you switched over to the pronunciation I use, after saying it like "explode" in past episodes. But nah, I've always said it the "slosher" way. And yes, Moray Towers IS a big, big place. And a beautiful place. I love how nice the views are, and so should you. Let the Moray Towers love flow through you, Chugga. JOIN US- *shot* (That Saltspray Rig theory is really cool and I'mma steal it)

as someone obsessed with magic eye as a kid, don't sweat not being able to get it. it's so difficult to get it right, and the only reason i can was because i spent so long staring at those books that i can just unfocus my eyes naturally when i see them. i think this partially caused my bad eyesight tbh edit to add: speaking of that bad eyesight, i never realized the explosher had heatwaves that came off of it! that's a fantastic detail.
