So someone made a good point about Inkopolis being DLC. It's most likely because Wii U servers are getting sunsetted pretty soon. Essentially putting this as a bonus for the dlc preserves the hub world in a way despite Splatoon 1 soon to become unplayable. Side Order definitely will be the big part of the dlc and considering the dlc is the same price as Octo, it's likely the Inkopolis dlc is just a neat bonus to preserve the hubworld and adding to the dlc makes sense as Splatoon fans are already the ones buying the dlc most likely, it's there if you care about these kinds of stuff and gives people who are in it for the multiplayer a bone.

Within the next year or two probably. Squid Research Team are probably operating on more information than the regular player and aware of when that time is. So they're doing this as a form of preparation for when that happens.

I'm SO excited it's insane. I read that in a Japanese article it stated it was going to be more ambitious than Splatoon has ever done [in comparison to Octo Expansion] which, of course word of mouth could be fake, but I would not doubt this being true and the idea is VERY exciting!! Okay, side order… they stick with a coral theme the whole way through. That seems significant. So I’ve seen some people theorizing it’s Marina’s backstory, but I don’t think it is for the following reasons: • ‘side: order’ implies it’s the order side of the final splatfest. • this looks pretty traumatizing, and marina was on side order. If this was her backstory, I think she’d try to lean away from very orderly themes so as not to be reminded of her past. • Marina and Pearl appear as they look now in the flashes, which makes me think they’re either present or those images were flashbacks. With those points, I think this is actually agent 8, as she has the pink hair she has canonly. My guess is this is a place where team order won, but it actually turns out to be corrupt and very similar to octoling society. 8, who just escaped to the surface looking for a land of color, takes it upon herself to right this and find Pearl and Marina. That’s just my guess, feel free to tell me if this aged like milk in the coming months

The coral is bleached, AKA very sick and close to if not already dead. And the fish passing by are shoaling fish, typically seen very close to the surface of the water. This is probably what team order wanted to be, but it died and the dream dried out. It'll probably be a very sad story where there were very high aspirations that lead to a steep fall due to the loss to chaos. This is probably Marinas dream, but became a nightmare when all hope to achieve it was probably lost.

I'd say that octoling is probably not 8. Hair color can easily be changed, and we saw an image pop up on screen with at least 2 other octolings that have that hairstyle. I think this might have somethin gto do with sanitization, and this octoling escaped that process and somehow wound up on the surface? there is still so much we don't know so its all speculation.

The devs said "Let's add Timmy and Tommy to Splatoon!" XD I'm really happy we'll get to revisit Inkopolis Plaza but it does look rather bare bones for paid DLC. I wouldn't be that surprised though if the higher ups told the devs they needed to make more than just one DLC to sell this time around (since other Nintendo titles have done similar) and they didn't really have time to make anything else super substantial, so they instead opted to give us a nostalgia trip.

For what its worth, in german the second wave is called "Ruf zur Ordnung", so "Call to Order", but you are probably gonna translate the original japanese anyways hmm several other languages call it "tower of order", yet in japanese its also "side order", always interesting to see how the localizers change things, i mean they must know the content of the dlc to make such changes, or however these names were coordinated.

OK, I HAVE A THEORY ABOUT SIDE ORDER. During the trailer, we see this shot with a bunch of octolings, which are most likely a bunch of clones, and I think that it’s widely accepted that we’re playing as Agent 8, but I think that we’re playing as a CLONE of agent 8, or just a clone in general. It would explain the lab like outfit (we see the clones wearing similar outfits), strange ink color, and the shots of “8,” in the lab, and there’s a shot later in the trailer that shows 8 on the ground, being blinded by a light (or their head just hurts), and either one could be 8 first waking up in the lab. (Also, you can tell that’s 8 due to the red/pink ink) And that shot of the weird ameba things floating around could be a clone before it takes any form. Now, why would clones be made? To take over inkopolis square. (well, something along those lines) Octoling clones would be made because most octolings served in the army, so their stronger than inklings (also, I can’t remember where this line came from, but I remember hearing something about octoling being smarter than inklings, so that could be another reason), also (kinda unrelated) you know that shot of “8,” standing in front of a grand elevator? Well, that’s not even who we play as. They don’t have suckers on the outside of their tentacles, and they have pointed ears, but they still have an octoling hairstyle. This could be 1 of 2 things. 1. An error in the cloning process. 2. A cutteling.

i came back to watch this and immediately got incredibly hyped all over again so i thought i’d share my thoughts with the masses this is almost certainly agent 8 returning as the playable character, not marina-but she and pearl are definitely appearing in the dlc (fingers crossed for a wedding). however, one of the artworks in the flashes seems to be a younger marina when she was still part of the octarian forces-hairstyle very similar to marina’s but of course cut shorter, and a teal hue. my best guess toward the plot of side order is that this bleached coral has crept its way into the minds of some, warping the perception of their memories, and agent 8 is faced with entering and cleansing these memories through the hivemind-like link the coral created. maybe we will be delivered information on off the hook and other characters’ backstories by exploring these tainted memories, then, once expunged of the coral, be able to experience the memories free of contamination. rather than battling something in the physical world, we are confronted with a dangerous mindscape-something that 8 is never able to escape. sorry if that was long-winded, i do fancy me some mindless speculation. i’d love to hear other people’s thoughts as well :O

i've seen people talking about how they think side order is going to be "what if team order won" but I feel like that's just kind of a ridiculous thing to assume. It's not like team order winning the splat fest was going to cause this to happen to the world. Not when team chaos literally only resulted in people just moving to a different city for clout. I definitely think it will be harmony and order themed, but no I don't think this is quite literally "what if the splat fest was different" because I just don't think splat fest law is so all encompassing that it would result in something like this. Plus this is literally within the same city as the time skip inkopolis that we are already now able to visit. It's not like only the square would be afflicted by this.

Ive been seeing a lot of people saying that these are memories, but I just dont see it. We already got Pearl and Marina's backstory in Octo Expansion, so it would be repetitive to go over it again. I also think its just kinda boring lol. Because I want all this cool imagery to have some kind of explanation that isnt just "well its not real" it just feels boring to me. Maybe it's just me but the Inkopolis plaza is kinda underwhelming. Like, it's really really cool and I hope they do more stuff like this, but how much time do you actually spend in the plaza? I guess it'll be cool to see the squid sisters give news announcements, but I usually skip those anyways, and I feel like 99% of the time in Splatoon I'm either in a shop, a lobby, or a game. You kinda just open the game and spend 20 seconds in the plaza until you go into one of those 3 things and maybe spend an additional 5 seconds in the lobby switching to another one of those 3 things. It's definitely pretty neat but I'll probably get like maybe a cumulative 20 minutes of enjoyment out of it over the next 3 years of Splatoon that I play. Definitely won't be what I'm buying the expansion pass for cause I have high expectations for whatever the Side Order is, but still pretty cool. I think it's just weird how they showed it to be the "first wave"" of the expansion pass when if it's just the plaza I feel like it'd be more of a little bonus you get for buying Side Dish. Maybe there's more to the plaza, at least I hope there is.
