As a regular mid S-Rank player, I can say confidently that Recon is my number 1 favourite ability and is invaluable to my personal gameplay strategy. I use it in combination with Stealth Jump, and with it I basically get the ability to Super Jump in wherever I want without enemies being able to spot me, while meanwhile I know where everybody else is hiding, including if a sniper could possibly be scouting for me or if a roller is nearby. ...Likewise I can say I'm a little surprised to see it as an ability get pushed off to the "miscellaneous, never recommend" category. ¯\(°_o)/¯

Once you started this play through I started playing a bit more and fell in love with the duel squelcher, used it in every game mode and rainmaker being by favorite. A good rule of thumb is to just throw a bomb as the shield is going down (but really any class with a spat bomb should do this) and it'll just get doubles a triples like no other, it's also not that bad at destroying the shield and on flounder heights I love shooting it through the grate

NOOOOO DONT GIVE UP ON THE CUSTOM SET!!!! It is FABULOUS for rainmaker in almost any map (except maybe Hammerhead, which I can't do well in no matter what weapon I choose anyway) and a pretty good contender in turf too. You have to remember to be a defensive player! Killing is not your strategy, being all over the map and giving yourself and your teammates new jumping opportunities and guarding your base from up top or afar is your best bet. I think people who don't like this set use it for purposes other than what it is best suited for. It's a great weapon, and quite possibly my favorite! (I'm only an A- rank, but I climbed this far mainly playing rainmaker and using this gun)

You say that the Custom Dual Squelcher is bad and lacks synergy? Because literally everyone I've asked, and myself too in fact, considers it to be in the top 3 optimal weapons in the entire game for ranked play. It's a Dual Squelcher, an ultra high range combat weapon which can ink paths for rainmaker, pressure splat zones and snipe at the tower from safety... It has Squid Beakons which gives your entire team entries into the fight even if you're elsewhere or even if you all wipe... and it has Killer Wail which lets you flush out enemies from the objectives or dislodge snipers.

When he started talking about people saying it was bad, I immediately felt a little annoyed. This weapon is my bread and butter during tower control. (Beakons on or around the tower to help with pushes. Killer Wail to help keep people off the tower, pressure, or block off routes for people to take). Also, I don't remember this weapon being as ink hungry as he says. My tower control build doesn't have a lot of ink saver main, but I do perfectly fine. (The Spattershot Pro on the other hand. That weapon needed special attention to ink saver main.) I feel like Chugga just craps on every weapon I like. He demolishes the inkbrush (without once noting its strengths). Now he is talking smack about one of my favorite weapon and weapon kits. I would be nice if he did a little bit more research.

12:56 Haunt got buffed in Splatoon 2, actually making it somewhat interesting because you give the effects of Respawn Punisher to whoever killed you, and it stays on that target. In addition, they don't KNOW they're being haunted until they get splatted by them.

Fun fact: upgrading bombs only increases their blast radius, or how much ink comes from behind the seekers. Also, both the splat bombs and the seekers are one hit kills to every enemy (excluding bosses and the rolling squids under certain circumstances)

For whatever reason, I used to main Custom DS in Splat Zones, and I usually tried to find places to hide Beakons before playing a map. I've had times where I've managed to swim back and forth between the ends of Hammerhead Bridge's zone and constantly keep Beakons for my fellow players up so they could constantly jump back into action. These times, I now mostly play Neo Splash-O-Matic, but I sometimes will go for a heavy support role if I can't do well with my NSplash for whatever reason.

Rank points work differently in the S brackets than they do for the rest of the ranks, as you've explained. The exact point distribution depends on your Rank progress and is split into three tiers. Tier 1 accounts for the first 39 points, so S/S+ 0 to 39, Tier 2 accounts for S/S+ 40 to 79, and Tier 3 accounts for S/S+ 80 to 99. It is also worth noting that the point distribution differs again between S and S+, meaning it will become increasingly harder to raise your rank.
