FINALLY a card game that adds enough extra mechanics to make it interesting. If the dev is around lurking: lean into the whole "you're the raid boss" thing by having heros banter with each other; calling for heals, yelling battle cries, crying out in fear when you hit a new phase.. like Darkest Dungeon in reverse 😂. A little harder to do: I think the heros should also have tile-affecting cards; I understand the complexity is exponential in tile type though.

it plays a bit on the MMORPG trope where you're raiding at max level, with 24.058.003 HP just as a mere adventurer and the dragon boss has 15quadrillion HP. While I do not understand why people seem to be actively hating on card games in this comment section particularly, I do understand why card games are slowly being more and more disliked. Fundamentally, all of them are the same in execution. Slay the spire had some nice innovative ideas when it launched, and a few other rare gems optimized the experience. After that, it's become stale af. This is the equivalent to most AAA open world games feeling so sanitized and samey. There is no more innovation, and everything new is more or less a reskin now.

The comments on Splat’s videos is the only place I have seen with this much of a hate boner for card games. Absolutely wild. It isn’t even hate towards card games that are lazy reskins of slay the spire, it is the concept of cards in general as a game mechanic, which is just wild to me. Like I can totally understand being frustrated with cards games being “Slay the Spire BUT…” but that isn’t what I see in the comments. I see so many mocking indie devs for using cards as a mechanic, when you can do literally anything with cards. Cards are a medium for making mechanics. I’m sure there is a genre of game that you like where the main mechanic of the genre is incredibly similar to other games in the genre. That doesn’t mean it is inherently a bad or uninspired game. These are the wildest takes to me. Criticize the substance of the game, or just give it a pass because you personally don’t like card games. Saying games are bad because they have cards or indie devs are lazy for making games with cards is as stupid as saying they would be bad if they had level up mechanics or first person shooting. Like, holy cow. Thank you for showing these games despite the inane and low brow comments, Splat.

Best turn based games to play while totally not waiting for downloads/updates/scans to finish at work? I really like Xcom EW and Xcom2, but I've played them to death. Tried Slay the Spire for a while, but not a huge fan of rogue-likes/lites. I somehow completely broke Battletech (plus played it to death too) and not even a re-install fixes it. New MOO was fun for a bit, but I hate how those style games all seem process for several minutes per turn in longer games even on my decent laptop. Semi-real time games, like Rimworld, are also neat. Set up the stuff for your pawns to do then if something urgent happens the game auto-pauses. (almost 6,000 hours in that game) Actually real time Farming Simulator 22 was pretty good. Great game for slow days, really zen.
