I would describe the movie with 1 word , uncomfortable.

at the cinema, people laugh when they're afraid.... its a macho thing. they don't want to be seen as being afraid. solid film. highly entertaining.

One of the most misunderstood films of the modern era. I remember the whiplash I experienced having watched what I considered one of the best sci fi films from that era and then reading the reviews, especially from audiences who were bashing it because it was too gross or made them feel uncomfortable. Good films are supposed to challenge you. People watching this in the theatre may laugh, but I guarantee they wouldn't be laughing if they were watching this alone. There was an unusually large amount of people who watched this and tried to dismiss it because they felt other audience members would judge them based on their reaction to some of the most shocking points of the film.

Whilst the film maybe slow in parts, the film’s still an interesting & refreshing sci-fi monster thriller that can be favourably comparable to The Fly (1986). (78%) (4/5 stars) (positive)

i'd been interested in this film since the early trailers. sounds like its worth a watch :D

Hmmm....I wasn't too sure about seeing this film, when I first heard about it and saw the trailer I though it looked and sounded a hell of a lot like Species which was a turn off for me. Now though it definitely sounds a lot more interesting that I first though, I'll be giving it a try.
I saw this film a couple of years ago. It was different, had me interested but it ran out steam towards the end and went into generic monster movie territory. I'm not in any rush to see it again because it was too slow paced, but I'd say to someone "check it out, it's a bit bizarre", much like Brian Yuzna's Society.

Well done Mark. As usual, your reviews are very good. They are entertaining, intelligent and thought provoking. If you could only get rid of that smug, odious and loathsome weight around your neck known as Mayo, then everything would go up a notch, and your reviews would not only be very good - they would be brilliant!!!

@mikeige It's really not worth a watch. It's one of those movies that tries to have a morally ambiguous theme running throughout but never works.

He is too forgiving, that movie was trash. From the lame unbelievable bug worm to the creature and how they delt with it, it wasn't ambitious at all, it was shallow.

...really surprised he had something good to say about it, watched it last night, one of the worst films i've ever seen. poor character development, rushed plot, just really really awful. so bad that even though i bought it for 1.50 i turned it off ten minutes toward the end and returned it this morning.
