This is a great technique for nalbinding, as you pull the entire length of working yarn through each stitch, and end up having to join a new length when you reach the end of one. I've used singly ply mostly, but this demo gives me the courage to go with 2 ply next time, which is more historically accurate anyway. Thanks for the useful video!

I came across a knot in my yarn so I thought it was about time I learned to do a splice. Following your instructions it came out really well. Thank you for your help.

That looks even better than my hand-spun merino yarn that I'm currently working with - so I'm going to give this a try!!! THANKS!!

Thank you for sharing your experience with us! I've never joined yarn like that, but just do it the old fashioned way...make knots! Plus, I've been knitting since I was a young girl....but I took my knitting to a whole new level!!

I had a patch of black fibres on pale pink yarn so I did my first splice. It turned out very well. Thank you for posting this tutorial.

Once again, your channel has exactly what I was looking for. I'm making myself a pair of socks with wool and I don't want a knot in my socks if I have to join yarns. Thank you so much.

I'm hoping this splicing technique also works for Nålbinding. Nålbinding is a more ancient method of making elastic looped fabric that involves threading yard long pieces of yarn with a needle resembling giant sewing needle. The yarn ends must very frequently be spliced together using this method. Nålbinding takes longer than knitting with two needles so it eventually fell out of favor in place of two needle knitting.

I find that making your hands slightly damp helps with the “felting”

Thanks for the splicing video. Very clear. I was also wondering what you do with the ‘not so twisted’ pure wool yarn when it pills. All that time and love poured into a man’s jumper and sent overseas as a present only to have it
@SuzanneBryan3 жыл бұрын
Oh, I know, I understand. You can use a pill remover or de-fuzzer. Here is an example - www.amazon.com/Sweater-Cashmere-Cleaning-Removes-Clothes/dp/B081GBF7JP/ref=sr_1_15?dchild=1&keywords=defuzzer%2Bfor%2Bclothes&qid=1635641648&qsid=131-7903845-9960233&sr=8-15&sres=B008I25368%2CB01NAQD0KD%2CB082VQBLL6%2CB08CX43PWS%2CB099NNFN12%2CB081TX8CDS%2CB07RMTZKXY%2CB07FLXSM7J%2CB00474IL8I%2CB09BHZBQKS%2CB081GBF7JP%2CB07QS8RNWX%2CB00KIUX30G%2CB07BS48JCD%2CB07WF1XBTN%2CB07QV7JLJR%2CB01MTV4IMQ%2CB082MDRBWF%2CB01MZZSJX9%2CB09FJP2WYX&srpt=LINT_REMOVER&th=1

I wonder if how acrylic has improved since 7 years ago has changed the viability of acrylic splicing. How did they get that ish so soft!?!?
@alexkairis39272 жыл бұрын
I use twist/counter twist when fishing braided low voltage electrical wire. I wonder if that might help make this splice technique better. Rather than just rubbing to felt, over twist each side. I dunno. I need to try this out. Shut up, yes I work in construction, concrete, and electrical but I also knit.

Thank you for this excellent video. I have watched it several times and have practiced it. I have also practiced the Russian Join. I am currently working a lacy shawl in merino wool. Do you recommend one join over the other? Thank you!
@SuzanneBryan4 жыл бұрын
I would try both on a swatch and see which one you like the best. Each time it may be different, based on the yarn you are using. Be sure to subscribe to my channel if you haven't already, happy knitting.
