I am crocheting an Afghan with wide stripes. Discovered your video when I was half finished, with many color change ends to have to weave in. I had a hard time trying to do this method with the chain 1, skip 1, single crochet pattern. After many tries I finally found a way to do it. I chained 1 with my working strand and used your method for the single crochets. Voila! No more ends to weave in on the remaining half of my afghan. I have never seen such an ingenious method before. Thank you!

... that's... frakking... GENIUS!!! 😱 I knew about the method where you crochet the ENTIRE stitch with both your tail and working yarn, but that just makes a hugely obvious bulky spot IMO. But this... this is absolutely BRILLIANT! 🖤

That is genius and it solves a problem I was having! I was crocheting with my tail BUT I was using it for the entire stitch and using it for at least 6 stitches or so and it would be very thick stitches indeed! With your method I can still crochet it in and make it more secure without it looking like my yarn gained 50 pounds in a hurry!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I can’t wait to try it tonight on my mandala blanket I am working on!!
@taligalassi39594 жыл бұрын
I've always crocheted both tails completely through. I like your way of not crocheting both threads on the last loop, it lessens the bulk. I will do it your way from now on. Thanks!

That's a fantastic tip! Will give that a whirl! Thanks for mentioning that simply crocheting over the tail isn't a good idea. The first few years I started I didn't know that. I had heard it was a great way to avoid the dreaded weaving in of ends. Then an afghan I made as a gift unraveled in the washing machine a couple years after I made it. I was mordified! Now I am so careful about making sure my ends are secure. I want to make sure nobody else relives what happened to me.

Oh my gosh! This is a great idea. Early on, when I first learned, I tried crocheting with both the the yarn and tail, thinking I was being very clever but of course, it was too bulky and looked awful. I gave up on the idea and went back to weaving ends in. It never occurred to me to just do it for half the stitch! Thank you for the excellent tip.

Thanks for this tutorial! I haven't tried this method with traditional crochet, but did something similar on a Tunisian crochet entrelac blanket. I would leave tails from both the working yarn and new yarn long enough to do a full forward and reverse pass on the next row and alternate between the tails when working each loop through both passes, then pick up the new working yarn on the final return pass loop and start the next row. Both tails ended up worked securely into the stitching without adding bulk and created a nearly invisible join. 😉😀

This is a great technique. One thing I have been doing recently (similarly) is leaving a long tail when I start a colour - 10cm) and using a tapestry technique to carry the yarn under my stitches but alternating between the tail and the working yarn to form my stitches until the tail is gone. Same idea-the tail becomes part of the stitch work and is woven in very securely.
