Hi there its not because its shallow the fins weren´t clicked in. You have to hear a a "Click" than they are rock solid. You just stuck them on without locking them. So they are locked if you hear a loud click. cheers

Thanks for the insight! We've got a couple comments saying the same thing. We heard a click but obviously that wasn't the loud click we were supposed to hear to truly lock in the fins. Oh well - live and learn :)

Have two split boards from Nobile - both from 2017: a NHP snd a Flying Carpet. Both using them as my only boards since then in ca 20-50 session per year (incl traveling frequently by aircraft)- without any problems at all. They are more or less like new. Extremely good quality, and you don’t notice they are split boards.

Exactly my experience with Nobile! Also have the same boards! They have very good fins, and very easy to put on and take off. These flysurfer fins already made me doubt if they gonna stick on board. In my opinion it does not matter how shallow it is, fins go are pressure all the time, extreme pressure in transitions.

Glad to see another manufacturer getting into the space. Seems like the split part is good; just needs work on the fins. I had a regular Nobile board, which unfortunately got stolen. Their slot / twist-tab fin attachment is a nice design, though I didn't have it long enough to run it through the paces.

Making pseudo-fins in order to put on actual fins doesn't seem like a rational idea for saving space, since you have to work with a screwdriver anyway, it would be just easier to have ordinary fins.
@OurKiteLife
@OurKiteLife 2 жыл бұрын
You could do the screw in parts at home and snap the fins in at your destination. Also, I think Firefin has different sizes of fins you could easily interchange… but yeah, after our experience we’ll stick with regular fins :)

The quick connect system for the split looks pretty good. A lot better than another system i looked at a local kite shop where there was just 4 Philips screws holding the two parts together. It needs to be tool less like this. But i think they could put in some magnets to make sure the "handles" is kept in a locked position.

I had the same problem loosing all fins! The point is that you need to press them hard on - the first click is not tight enough. It first sounds like they are in but they are not. I can bite my ass for this... After pushing them hard in, everything is fine now!

Are you going to get a new set of fins and make a follow up video? Seems like the company should really stress the install process and that one should do pre testing that they don't come off. The board and fins seem like they belong together as a travel board. Don't give up, I would love to see a second try. Unsuccessful tries lead to success!

Second that. You have to press firmly until you hear several clicks, as indicated in the manual. Otherwise the fins come right off with the slightest pull. I first thought the system was broken because how easily the fins came off. After I put them put on correctly (press until you hear several clicks), they held firmly on my board and it required some force to remove them again. Not super intuitive, in my opinion.

As Flysurfer ambasador did you have to buy this board or it was free? This board looks nice quality as its made by Shinn and it's a copy of Slicer that only has different pads/fins and different sizes. For travel its a new competitor to Nobile NHP Split board yet it's very different, has more parts that can be lost but it has nice FS design and looks to have flatter rocker than NHP.
@OurKiteLife
@OurKiteLife 2 жыл бұрын
We bought it (as ambassadors we still buy our gear, with a discount). Haven’t tried the Nobile spilt board so can’t compare, but overall we liked the design of the TRIP and how it performs in different conditions. Solid all round board that we will be bringing on future kite vacations
@PinwheelHomes
@PinwheelHomes 2 жыл бұрын
Very cool. This looks good. I'd be concerned about the stainless steel pins that hold both sides together. It's probably worth having and extra one or two on hand, as they don't seem to click in. (Maybe also some good gaffer tape to put over them so they don't twist open). But maybe that's just my initial concern. Super cool option though. Cheers from the Niagara region.
@OurKiteLife
@OurKiteLife 2 жыл бұрын
The pins do have rubber ends that seem to hold in place very firmly, so we aren’t too worried about losing them. Hard to convey over video/in a comment but the board does feel solid when put together :)

@OurKiteLife
@OurKiteLife Жыл бұрын
Yes - most of the time it’s best to kick the board off if one foot comes out and you know you can’t get it back in the strap. There are times though when it’s possibly to safely land with a foot on the board beside the binding. But generally speaking best to ditch the board if you’re not 100% on the landing

It’s definitely a “nice to have”. Recently in Canada we’ve got a couple budget airlines - very cheap flights so long as you don’t add on too much luggage. A few trips and a split board is easily justified :) plus not having to lug a big golf bag around!

As soon as you clicked those fins in I knew it was going to crash. The Nobile system is much better but plasticky so you better have a few screws handy and the click plastic part on the board can break. Other than that, the Nobile is great I used to go to Miami for work a lot and I could bring my gear to the office and no one knew what I had in my big suitcase. Same going to work in Queens, I could just leave all my gear in the back of my hatchback with the cargo blind pulled. A boardbag sticking out of the back to the passenger area is asking to have your window broken. No need to take the gear out, I leave it in all the time and there is nothing telling people I have such valuable gear in there. Split can be super useful.

Every time I've tried traveling with travel-specific gear, I've always missed having my regular gear, so I end up just traveling with a bunch of big bags. Some of the travel gear seems pretty good, But I'd rather complain that getting through the airport could be easier than complain than my sessions in exotic locations I paid $1000s to get to would be better on regular gear.

If I'm going to go to a kite destination on a plane.. I'll just rent gear on arrival. At any other time, why the hell would I need a 137cm board to split in half? I'm pretty confused as to what the intended market is for this product

To each their own. If gear rental is an option than that’s great. Our experience has been that gear rental was not an option at many - if not most - of our destinations. Given how many people have commented on this video that they own a split board, it looks like there is a market for them :)

Can somebody explain the usefulness of a splitboard to me? This thing costs a thousand euros plus where I live. If I bring my kite gear I have to pay a maximum of a 100 euros per trip extra for oversize luggage if i fly with a budget airline but if I book with the slightly more expensive airlines (to further destinations) I can take it for free. Why bother on buying a splitboard? Also I wonder how this handles a proper wakestyle session with some high powered moves
@OurKiteLife
@OurKiteLife 2 жыл бұрын
No idea about handling a proper wakestyle session, but for us we bought it mainly for the convenience of not travelling with a golf bag, especially for "non-kiting" trips, like British Columbia, where you can kite as an option, but you are there for different reason.
