In this occasional series ‘Digitally Challenging Conversions’ or DCC for short, i’ll take a look at some of the more difficult models to fit DCC decoders too, due to lack of space, split chassis or other problems.

A very good video and, as you said, practice makes perfect. The conversion you carried-out is a credit to yo.. 🙂 If the model is a good runner then that's not too bad...I did a few of these conversions... Ivatt tanks, B1's, A4, etc...even with all the pickups added the loco's are, in my opinion, never as good as their modern counter-parts. I suppose I was fortunate in that I was able to use the bodies on new and modern chassis', especially the numerous Ivatt tanks and the many B1 loco's.

I have done even N Gauge. Just mill out chassis where engine contacts contact chassis. This ensures no possible future shorts.

Really good informative video, it's the first time I've seen someone convert a split chassis to DCC. I would recommend the use of black tack rather than the blue variant as it remains sticky and doesn't separate (blue tends to leave oil deposits behind and goes hard and unusable when it's old).

Is it safe to test a dcc-fitted loco with dc? I heard that may fire the decoder as well.
