"It's better to split them out to individual tracks so you have more control when it comes to the arrangement and processing." I knew it! I'm making an Ableton template right now and I have a Kick, Snare, Closed HH, and they are all grouped together as "DRUMS". My thought was, "How the hell am I going to work on the kick / low end if it's in the same track as high frequency parts?". You confirmed exactly what I was hoping to hear and it's the only time I've ever heard someone say it explicitly. Thank you.

So basically just load up different drum racks ?? A drum rack for kicks and a drum rack for snares and a drum rack for hats and ect!
@jaydekaytv2 жыл бұрын
Just FYI - You can still work on the kick while it’s in the same rack. Your plugins just go after the kick sampler. You can also setup send and returns within the drum rack.
@snubdawg13862 жыл бұрын
@@jaydekaytv how can i setup different send and returns on different drum rack pads? ...i need to layer 3 different kicks to pad1, 3 different highats to pad2, 3 different snares to pad 3, no problem ...but now i want to send just pad1 and pad3 to the sam effect
@jaydekaytv2 жыл бұрын
@@snubdawg1386 Also make sure you enable "Show Devices" and "Show Chains Lists" with the small buttons on the left side of the Drum Rack. These two comments I made should get you set in the right direction.
@jaydekaytv2 жыл бұрын
@@snubdawg1386 I replied 2x already but the post keeps getting removed prob because each time I included a link to the Ableton manual along with my comment. I'll do this once more for you. Nest an instrument rack in a drum rack. Create multiple chains in the instrument rack, each with a sampler. In your Drum Rack, show the Sends and Returns with the S and R buttons on the far left of the Drum Rack. This will show an area where you can insert effects. Use the small sends sliders in the Drum Rack chains to send the amount you want to each Return within your drum rack. I wrote this 2x already so am being a bit frank. I hope this helps.

Really appreciate the second method. It allows you to have individual stems for each drum part WITH any effects that you added, if you want to have them as part of the mixing process.

Another smart way to do this is to route each drum rack sound to seperate audio channels in a group (kick/snare/hat/perc/etc). and then resample/record these channels once you are satisfied with your drum rack midi programming. So then you can record everything to audio on it's own channel within a new drum group with audio clips for each drum sound. Offcourse this can be done with midi clips as well. Just save it as a template and your done. One drum rack alongside one parallel drum group to record into.

YOO tell me more about this, it's exactly what i'm trying to do.. I've got my drum rack all set up, but i cant route the audio out of each pad into a separate audio track...

It's a solution, but I don't love it. I don't want it extracted to another rack. I want it extracted to a single midi track. Also you can't extract all of the Drums to individual Racks as well. As soon as you chose multiples ones at the same time, they will get extracted to a single rack. It's a pain and I don't understand how Ableton doesn't have a better way to do this.

I would probably help more if you either pose this question in the official Ableton forums, create a feature request or contact the Ableton team directly. No offense, but if you want to contribute, you should use the right venues. Do you expect the Ableton team to out of billions of videos on KZbin coincidentally find your comment in this comment's section and respond accordingly?

so, in order to make polymetric sequences you have to take out specified track from the drum group like you show here. i think its surprising for a daw in 2018 to not having the ability to do different time signatures within the same group. Like how skinnerbox time works for example.
@marcoscortelazzo5 жыл бұрын
hi! tnx a lot for the tip! I got a question for extracting in arrangement view. If I have, let's suppose, 5 drum tracks (snare, kick, etc)....does the CPU load increase a lot? Because each track will contain the same VST...right? Is there a way to avoid this huge cpu load? maybe giving to all these separate tracks a command to take a specific VST in another track. Hope my English Is good :)

Hi, is there a way to assign different FX send levels to the individual outputs? For example: I would like to send the snare into the reverb FX channel, while not affecting the kick.

Thanks for showing the different methods. For some reason, when I separate my drum rack into separate tracks, the individual tracks sound quieter than when they were grouped in my drum rack and don't hit as hard. Then I have to go back and adjust note velocity or faders. Is there a reason this could be happening?
@luisivan66113 жыл бұрын
Okay. thank you. By separating drums into new tracks does it sound harder or better?

How do you use the external instrument with each hit in drum rack, I need to send the midi out for each to my Akai S3000xl
@eladgorni794410 ай бұрын
how would you it the other way around? id you want to insert a track that is already exist into the drum rack?
@bogdanavramuta27483 жыл бұрын
what if you have return tracks inside of the drum rack? as soon as you extract a chain its output is not affected by the return tracks within the drum rack anymore. the only way I can go around that atm is to duplicate my drum rack by the number of chains I have and mute all but one chain in all the new drum racks. then when I export all my individual tracks I end up with all my original chains with the return tracks already baked in. but that can be quite an effort depending on the number of chains you have and surely there has to be another more easy way to do it.

is there a way to separate every track like without dragging each one at a time?

Hey! I using ableton as drum channel in hybrid dj setup with Lauchpad S (Lauchpad 95 script) where I have drum rack in drum step sequencer mode. I want to know: is it possible to make 1 individual sample starting/stopping from button INSIDE drum rack without pasting sample into new track??? Because possibity of changing position in grid give me to prepare my drums for drop in moment I want. And in case of your video method when I'm in play and trigger another clip my drum rack script brokes and I need to restart clip with drum rack every time. Even if I using lock step sequencer to current clip feature of this script it doesn't save me.
